GREAT! Thank you - - I noticed some troll posted 'worthless' a week ago. Ummm.. yeah, no. Just so you know, your video is NOT worthless; far from it!! I appreciate your trouble to make it. Embarrassed to say it, but it turns out that what I had not done was read the directions! I took a $615 payment but it never got deposited into my bank acct. Turned out I had not CHARGED THE BATTERY in the reader - LOL hello?? yes I'm a knucklehead I admit it. Luckily the customer is super cool and understands he's my guinea pig - so we're going to re-try the transaction, which I am quite certain will be OK once my little reader has some juice! Thanks a million!

I have just started using SQ as a free scheduling tool for clients but I have not set up for taking cards yet or purchased a reader. I have this chip reader. Does wifi have to be on or for safety purposes can I use my data plan and turn off wifi when I'm at a craft fair? Also, do you know if this will insert into the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra? I also have the 1st reader which is only for magnetic strip on Christmas card.

It does not work with my card. Pincode (like 1234) and postalcode (like 1234AB) must be not a problem. My card has the MasterCard logo, but saying "Maestro" and it does not have a CVV code. It does not work since my card it is not a credit card. (Here, only some people do have a credit card, mostly because they REALLY need it)
tell me that this device will read chip cards on a smart phone. I have a smart phone and accept cards on the road all the time.

Check that your phone has the old headphone jack as the newer iPhone has a connection point instead and is not compatible
bank merchant pos machines usually only charge 1.8% - $30 month / 1.4% - $60 month or 1.2%- $90 month ect. I see this as a great low volume sales or cheap startup / payment system. At some point once business grows , I see most people grow out of this once turn over increases to a full time income amount. Does anyone know this tipping point?

The dock is the small square holding device, like a stand for the contactless chip reading card reader, only it lays down horizontally. It has three USB connections on it I assume for charging the readers, and it costs an extra $29.00! I'm wondering if the chip reading card reader uses a wired cord to connect and transfer the information through the cell phone back to Square Company, since it isn't plugged into the cell phone ear phone plugin the way the basic card reader does??
Also, I'm just wondering how I link this device to my bank acct.?

When you say for the duration of the transaction, do I have to dip the card, then choose the library items or can I "ring up" the items, get a total and THEN dip the card? I have been having terrible luck with this reader so far. :-/

I don't believe there is a minimum. You could probably charge one cent if you wanted.

Also, Tristan, I assume that is your first name---great informative video BTW! I'm wondering if I can swipe an EMV card through the basic card reader, which I've sent away for---because it's free!! Will the reader know that it doesn't have the ability to "dunk" the card the way the more advanced reader does, and so I wouldn't get that error message to "dunk" the card instead?
I believe the basic one is only a swiper, not a chip reader.

.I did a job for $565.00 worth of work including parts , in which I had
paid for the parts and SQUARE deducted the entire amount of money from
my account without consulting me about the problem. So in other words
they sided with the card holder who would be my customer and I not only
lost the money for my labor, I also lost my money for the parts that I
had paid for with my money to begin with. I will not deal with SQUARE
any longer if they will do transactions in the future this way. It cost
me lots of money

does it still have offline use?
***** No, EMV cards do not support that since they need to sync with the servers for the entire transaction. If offline, you can still swipe a card (mag stripe) however. If you try to dip an EMV card while offline, the app will tell you "Offline, swipe card".

How does it work on a debit card?
The debit card needs to have a Visa/MC logo and then it goes through the Visa or MasterCard system.

It can use debit cards but only with the Visa, MC, AMEX or Discover logo.

Square sent me a new chip card reader which works wirelessly. This reader is very difficult to use, and has not worked with getting wifi connection to successfully pair. I would love to get the new square smaller device that resembles the former square reader. Looks real easy to dip chipped credit cards. Where do I get this?

did it come with charger
It comes with a charge cable but not charger. You can charge it using a usb on a computer or your iphone/ipad charger, etc.

They both have some bad BBB reviews, PayPal has a lot more bad reviews than Square though.
I did not read every review but I believe that sometimes companies get a bad review that in reality stems from operator error or ignorance. Myself, I did a step wrong with the reader; stupidly, I had not charged my reader properly. (Hello?? plug it in maybe??) Simple, but in my haste I missed that step (duuuh!) - and I suspect that some users jump to criticize when in fact it's their own fault (as it was my own fault with my issue).
