She uses a soldering iron for the holes. Plant herbs and vegetables this way too for each access to food. Most flowers like dianthis, petunia, zinnias, nasturtium etc can be used. I find that less holes allow water to drain slowly,keeping plants wet linger. For the bottom one I put a empty bottle to catch the water then pour it back at the top to preserve nutrients
