Both look like a work of art by the same artist.

Loved the series! Such wonderful, deep, rich characters and so well performed. I really enjoyed shows that take place in times without cellphones or any technology, which tends to take away from the story and can be distracting.

OK so the possibilities are: (1) she is the main perpetrator of the crime and is fully aware of her actions, having coerced McDermott and manipulating everyone else to think that she isn't (the whole hypnosis/dual personality thing being an act, with the help/direction of Jeremiah), (2) the duality of her character is real, but she is aware of it and remembers more than she says, being equally guilty as McDermott (and draws upon "Mary" when needing to express the more violent aspects of her personality) (3) she is aware of the duality of her personality, but at the same time her judgement and recollection are clouded by trauma and by the anger fuelled by it (in which case again "Mary" is the face she's attached to her more vengeful violent instincts, and she feels this side taking over at times) (4) She has flashbacks of what happened but is in denial (attributing the worst parts to dreams rather than reality) and was possibly heavily manipulated by McDermott, (5a) She really has a split personality disorder (i.e. psycho-pathological version), so when the character of "Mary" (whom she created after the death of her friend) takes over, the character of "Grace" has no idea (5b) She really is haunted by Mary at the point of her death (i.e. supernatural version), and Mary properly takes over, while Grace has no idea. (6) There's no Grace anymore, there's only Mary (again with two possible explanations either psycho-pathological or supernatural), which brings us back to her being fully guilty as in (1). Knowing a little bit about Margaret Atwood, I'd say that she probably didn't favour interpretation (1) and also didn't favour the supernatural interpretations either, although all interpretations are negotiable.

Speaking of the hypnosis being an act, I am rewatching the show and I just noticed that when Jeremiah is trying to convince Grace to go with him and leave the Kinnear house, he says that, in front if an audience, he could put her into trance and tell her what to say 😮.

I didn't catch it until I rewatched it again recently, but the last scene, there is a point in the letter where she is talking as Mary Whitney. She is going on about the animals on the farm, the cat called Tabby, and a dog named Rex. It was exactly what Mary said in the apple peeling scene.

Her stare right into the camera at the end makes me feel she was guilty all along...but the ambiguity is awesome. "Let me in." Maybe she's insane? (5a)

I’d rather she is a cold blooded sociopathic manipulator. It would have so much sense. Still i love the character wholeheartedly. She is so charming, so i don’t care

elliest -- You forgot scenarios 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11a through 11f! Or she didn't do it and she mind merely blocks the memories subconsciously as many victims of heinous crimes do.

I did have a scenario 6 - you didn't read carefully tsk tsk :p Also, your suggestion is what I said in (4), except I hadn't considered that she didn't actually participate at all in the crime, which I guess is also possible. Mocking aside, I think we've covered every possibility.
