We were supposed to get some snow in our state last week. The local news was talking about it daily. But the snow never showed up. We are greatly disappointed. All the hyped for nothing.
@@josepy4 i'll give you some global warming talk, 2023 was worldwide the warmest year in recorded history. denial dimwits seem to think that global warming means that arctic climates immediately turn into tropical forest....
Chaorlais cattle are wonderful. Years ago, like 50 or so, friends raised them and I would buy a half of a half of a butchered steer every year to have to feed my four boys. It was so lean and had a very rich flavor. They were grass fed, in the days before it was "the thing" and because they mature to butchering weight much earlier and so were much more cost effective. Congratulations. edit: They also are great milkers, used four gallons a week of raw milk from the same herd. Lots of cream to make cream biscuits for Sunday morning breakfast or have in coffee, etc.
If I may provide a bit of advice : If with your cross-breeding project you get a bull... Don't immediately plan for butchering, check beforehand if there isn't anyone that would be interested in purchasing it. Charolais bulls are in a very high demand on the breeding market, and yours may be cross-bred Charolais (and not purebred like what's most popular) but there still may be cattle farmers or breeders interested in purchasing them. If there are, it can bring you more money than processing the bull for beef, and it gets a longer life which is always a plus ^^. PS : careful with Charolais, they're docile but they get big... VERY big (about 2 000 pounds for the cow, and up to 3 400 pounds for the bull). You may want to... Well... BEEF-UP your fences just in case. And yes, that pun was 100% intended ^^
The high demand is for pure breed bulls. Any farmer who gives a crap about his animals does not breed with hybrids. You don't know exactly what you are going to get.
I wonder is Alison tell Morgan to start her car for her in the morning or clean the snow from the driveway? And welcome to the farm to the new cows 🐄 😀
Yes! Love Annaliesa, or Anneliese, means " God's plentiful bounty". Also, Anya, Aurora, Anastasia, Adele and Arwen. Aragorn, Atticus, Archibald, or Archie and Archer. Lovely A names....
We had a Charolais bull about 20 years ago after that we only had black angus bulls. His genes is so strong we still have solid white calves being born til this day.
Suggestion for new cow name... Since Charlet is a French word and the cattle breed has a long French history Antoinette is the first name I thought of starting with an 'A' for one cow SO French!😁Adele and Aimee are also fabulous French names. 🥰
@@TinaP1234 my grandmother's name was Antionette Pearl, born 1883, and she went by Nettie Pearl (from a Florida frontier family, if you can imagine that!) It is SO good to see snow on Gold Shaw Farm!! ❤ It’s beautiful, and even though most of the animals would prefer to live without it, they always look so fluffed up and pretty in winter!! The three new cows are adorable, I hope they relax and settle in as quickly as possible!! As for names: Azalea, Amaranth, and Anise! 🌸❤️
Love to see the new cattle! Morgan I know the struggle was real to get the new faucet installed but I think the overall operation of the farm will be better at least on the water side. Just too bad you can't harvest some of that snow goodness into drinking water. Good to see you are getting an appreciate amount of snow.
Hello Morgan, from my central Florida perspective your snowy farm is a winter wonderland. Thank you for the incredible drone footage.🤗❣️ Congratulations on the new cattle arrival. It's an energizing beginning to 2024. Way to go‼️

My father, who'd tried farming in the late 1940s, always kept an eye out on agricultural news. So he took us one Sunday in the early 60s to see this *new* breed of beef cows - so far that had consisted principally of Aberdeen Angus (black cows). These new cows were very impressive and looked like giants! (BTW, In Quebec, they are called ChaROlais cattle)
My dad raised charolais for several years. They were huge, especially the bulls. They were actually so gentle, even the bulls. I missed them when dad changed to black Angus. Enjoy them.

Morgan, I really enjoyed today's background music. The Flower Duet and Gymnopedie are a couple of my favorites. Old music is a great source of royalty-free music.
Wow you've got lots of snow. Love the new cows, they are less white than the dogs who aren't very white! Really enjoyed this one, it had a very peaceful feel.
Welcome to the new girls! Ooh, that white mama cow is a bossy little Bossie. How will she and Audrey get along when you introduce the new gals into the herd? And if the Charolais are much taller than Highland, you might have to issue Macho Man a stepladder when he goes courting :)
New cows! So exciting for you! Its 7degrees here, about 4-5 inches of snow and I just consolidated our flocks for less frostiness. Couple of years ago I threw an extra greenhouse plastic tarp over the hoop coop b/c the regular old tarp we had was worn out. Best thing I've ever done. We are averaging 4-5 eggs a day, even through winter. they stay warmer, and its just an all around better environment for them.
That's cool now u going to have more colorful baby cows. Hopefully u get the classic black and white looking cows next at some point because there cool😊
There is something so wholesome and serene about this channel. And I love that you keep it clean so I can watch with my nine year old daughter. She is fascinated.
We just got a foot of snow yesterday up here in central ontario! Our farm neighbour raised charolais/beef cows for 70+ years before he passed away a few years ago. My family helped the wife sell off the last of his herd for quite the retirement fund for her, and that was a few years ago now. I can only imagine what the price of cows is at now. I saw one highland bull calf at auction this past summer, three days old, go for around $900.
Thank you for choosing ‘Clair de lune’. It is a beautiful piece and a favourite of mine. Stay safe and stay warm. Thank you for sharing this with us all. Blessings 🙏🙏🙏 🌎❤️😊
A name for the little cow, I am suggesting, "Almond Butter" because she is kind of an almond colour. Congratulations on the new big critters to your farm. ❤ from Edmonton, Alberta, Canada 🇨🇦. It's only -38C today. It was 🥶 colder on Saturday and Sunday, -50C, then add a windchill. 🥶 ☃️ 🧊 🥶
Gorgeous video! I just LOVE the snowy landscapes by drones and the music is magical - especially Debussy's Clair de Lune as the snow-frosted barn cats feasted! ❤ How about Adele or Agatha for the new cows?
Congrats, Morgan. You must be really chuffed to bits. And the farm looks spectacular. Hope it doesn't get as cold as in Chicago. Names with A: Angelica, Alicia, Ava, Astrid, or Aurora like in Borealis. Which you seem to get from time to time in Vermont.
Morgan they’re beautiful…. They look like an Adira, Avita & and Alice… or an Ava, Adele, Adeline…Azrael came to mind too… but didn’t want to sound too smurfy, lol…love the new addition, congratulations… best of both worlds ❤
I could watch the farm all day..how about doing a live stream for the day when you put the cattle together? I grew up on a dairy farm..holsteins ..but when my grand children were toddlers, my father went to beefers...herfords breed to charlois..big beefers.. i miss those days...thanks for the trip down memory lane.
I have a name suggestion: Annika. You could even make it Annika Hansen (seven of nine's childhood name) and introduce her to Captain Janeway 😂 I've seen Aurora being mentioned by others in the comments, I love that name as well!
Awesome! Congrats on this new addition. However, I wonder if you will still get the same price for the beef. Given that they are not of the "special" Scottish Highlander breed. You might want to be careful with breeding them and creating hybrids.
@MorganGold excellent choice to add to your herd! I know you ended up choosing them due to the HL market not being buyer friendly currently, but I think it ended up being a much better addition to your herd! You have HL bull, and HL females already to produce more, but you are also limited as you've decided not to keep the HL heifers on farm that you produce. Adding cows and heifers that are not HL allows you to keep those heifers you do produce, as the COI (coefficient of inbreeding) will be quite low since its across breeds. For beef production, this should be perfect. I also hope to see you add at least one or two milking cows this winter (with calves). Even if you just let the calves get all the milk for now, it again would be another way of improving your herd and adding a lot of value. With your plan to have pigs this year.. a few milking cows to feed extra milk and byproducts too would be huge, as well as the planned meat birds. Soaking their grain in extra milk, whey, or skim milk is a great way of promoting fast growth and weight gain. As for names: Tan/Buff cows that start with A's... I'd go with Alma for the heifer calf, and Alta for the biggest female, and Almond for the other. Names are fitting for their breed and coloring for sure, sound nice, and fit your A theme.
I love White cattle! I bought American White Park cattle to cross with my Miniature Hereford and Miniature Jersey bulls. This last spring I got my first calf crop and they look just like American White Park only smaller. I call them Mid-Miniature but some will stay even smaller from the looks of them so far. American White Parks are naturally polled and some of the calves were born naturally polled. Can't wait to see the next crop. Beautiful video
I thought it was clickbait, lol. You know, white cow being cow covered in snow.
I could have forgiven that. That would have been epic.😂
Me too!!
That's what I thought it was going to be too! I would have thought it was funny, but this is better

You could even make it Annika Hansen (seven of nine's childhood name) and introduce her to Captain Janeway 😂
I've seen Aurora being mentioned by others in the comments, I love that name as well!
I hadn't read all the comments and it was one of the first names that came to mind for the cows also! Hee! Now I see it MULTIPLE times, haha.
Aria, Audrey, Amelia, Abigail, and Alivia are some of the A names I've come up with.
Awesome! Congrats on this new addition. However, I wonder if you will still get the same price for the beef. Given that they are not of the "special" Scottish Highlander breed. You might want to be careful with breeding them and creating hybrids.
What beautiful Charolais girls you got yourself there. That and the snow storm just make absolut farm magic
Amy, Ava and Amanda sounds like good names to me. Good luck with the new girls.
I love these slow dynamic videos! I am excited for white cows!
Congrats on the new additions. Some A name suggestions, Alice,Ava, Acacia. Thank you for always being you.
I am excited to see the new cows. I like Adeline, Amelia and Appolonia.
Autumn, Athena and Alexandra. Love these names. Good luck on choosing. Stay warm.
Beautiful cows, congratulations.
