I love all these treasures. I love collecting old photographs and the vintage covers from photography studios back in the day. I like to use them as journal covers.
Thank you for sharing your beautiful haul. What treasures you found! You mentioned a few things you’re saving to keep in your studio, which got me wondering how you’ve designed your working space. How about a studio tour video? (Just a thought . . . )
Hello, new subscriber from France. You bought all the things I would buy. I like to buy antique linens, books, frames, architectural pieces and many things more. Much to the despair of my husband who is more a minimalist. :) Looking forward to see more of your treasures and perhaps your studio?
Is this just to make me jealous ? really you have some great finds.I can't resist old books myself I have found some beautiful ones in junk shops and charity shops.
Gorgeous! Thank you for sharing these lovely old treasures. It’s possible the wood object is a drink muddler or muller, used to crush spices, fruits, herbs, ice etc. for cocktails.
I visited Rome before the pandemic. I’m sorry that it didn’t occur to me to visit a flea market. I was so distracted with the museums and tourist attractions. Next time I visit Europe I will definitely visit a flea market.
Absolutely beautiful. The flea markets here in the US can't hold a candle to the ones across the pond!! I must get there someday. I'm new to your style of collage, which I really like, so I look for papers, books, maps, fabric, anything with Snoopy. I have found some really old technical books that have great illustrations for collage. I think the wooden dowel like object could be part of a mortar and pestle (I can never remember which is which). I'm going into New York City in a couple of weeks; maybe I'll find some interesting vintage items.
Thank you! I hope you have a chance to visit a European flea market! And if you find good shops in NY, please do let me know as I will be travelling there in a couple of months! And thank you for the idea about the pestle, I think it's a good guess!
Gorgeous finds! I collect old frames to hold antique photos of my and my husband's family. And the map! I adore maps and also have a collection of framed slates like the one you show. One is etched with the alphabet in the most beautiful handwriting. Thank you for sharing your finds and saving theses things from obscurity.
Just found your channel!! Love all the same things as you!!! I believe the long wooden piece has to do with possibly smashing food.. like tomatoes when making sauce… or smashing fruit for jams and jellies…or even for mashed potatoes!!!.. Any number of applications for it!!! Look forward to watching more of your videos!!!
Great finds Jack - I cannot wait to see your next assemblage pieces. I've been a fan of yours ever since you did several works for the Graphics Fairy. That circus journal you did still fires my imagination! Love your work. xx Di
You had me at Flea Market!!! What absolute treasures. Europe is so rich in history and you can find such incredible things. It’s always fun to imagine the story behind them. Jack Ravi you are the treasure I found today. I will be watching all of your creation videos. Thank you for sharing!!🥰
Those books, there are no words....wow wow wow. So nice to spend some extra time with you. Looking forward to more of your finds, what a fabulous adventure you're on 💫 I would always look for books first, journals, hands-written diaries and anything antique, mid-century or even retro with dogs 🐾💜 Obsessed with books and dogs, dogs and books. OH! And vintage art supplies are exceptionally beautiful and super rare to find where I am. I'll have to start shopping in better places...France and Italy: not bad places to start!!
Fabulous pieces, thank you for sharing them with us! We are going on a river cruise in October from Budapest to Amsterdam and I hope to find some similar treasures!
You have found lovely items for crafting from your travels Jack. I make junk journals (also a UA-cam channel) and also love to visit flea markets, antique markets etc. Last April I visited London and visited the Chicwick antique market. I'm always looking for anything vintage made out of paper but also fabrics, buttons and curiosities. Subscribed and want to see more of your videos.
I just finished watching the conclusion of casa - the altered board book 🤍🤍🤍 class. I loved that so very much and am prepping to make a very similar book based on my late mothers childhood property. I’m so excited to use her original black and whites 🤎🤎🤎. But in the meantime, I’m here for your flea market haul….YOU have THE BEST ephemera…can’t wait to see what you found….
Treasures, indeed! I love the antique books--the shabbier, the better!! I mostly buy them for the covers, endpapers, and flyleaves, and love the ones with handwriting or other marks on them. My local library often sells nice antique books for just a couple of dollars, but I'm so tempted to ask them for the dilapidated books they think no one wants, that probably end up in the trash. Maybe some library dumpster diving is in order. I have no shame.
Ok, another video of nature finds to come…. Yes please. Also that last photo of the young woman looks very much like a new mould that the Iron Orchids Sisters just released. I wonder if you are familiar with them or their products. I know they are in the UK. Anyway the mould is called Persephone. And it’s strikingly similar to your favorite score for 2 Euro…whatever that is.. sounds like “free” 99 to me. Ok, I’m done pestering you. I love your haul and look forward to the nature treasures. I always say that Nature is my Favorite Color. Thank you Jack for making my day 2 x twice 😘😘
I love the video and seeing the things you shared!! Questions: is 'foxing' mildew? Do you clean the items, like the large portrait that you ended with? Do you clean the frame and the glass before hanging it in your studio? Another question: what if a book you find is moldy or mildewy, but you love it. Any suggestions on how to avoid bringing spores home with you? Thanks, so much!
Hi Robin, great questions! I don't tend to clean my things, except maybe some dusting, but I don't tend to worry about that kind of stuff. I am more interested in the process of making than in the longevity of my objects 😊 Foxing may be mildew, but I'm not afraid of it, it's just like freckles on a beautiful face ❣
I wanna shop where you shop….I’ll even let you have first pick…so far every single thing you’ve shown is bey9na fabulous. And I’m a dollar and cents American girl…so 1 Euro sounds like FREE to me
@@jackravi there’s still 6 minutes left in your video I have to keep stopping to comment (really to catch my breath and let my heart rate resume to normal). You lucky folk who live in the lands of history have THE BEST bits and bobs. That box top with the patina of black and corrugated cardboard. To Die For as my Mumma use to say. How many sets of eyes saw that and thought nothing. Literally nothing. I bet many. But you saw the value in that exquisite lonely box top. I get it. I agree. Ok…back to the doll heads and folding rulers (both of which I already have in my stash) 😬
Oh, I love that of everything in the video you picked one of the most understated object. You get me!!! 🥰 It is such a small thing but so precious too! ❤
Weird question but would anyone be ibterested in buying a box with say a little locket or brooch a book belonging to a person from the 1940s 1930s 50s and some of their handwriting and a photo and other things that belonged to them like little time chest of a person? I dont really just want to sell them cos i feel like theyre a persons story and should be kept together as a little time capsule of the person. Just thought of this idea though dunno if anyone would want it. Theres lace that different members made too and magazines and judt all sorts of things.
@jackravi yeah little treasure boxes. Cos I come across them clearing out my moms house. All my family were hoarders. We keep finding things even now. I just found a babies bonnet from like 1890s maybe 1910s. And more lacework. And old lego! I love it. A lot is just rubbish and crap and then you open a box and there's some costome jewelry or an old tool for something. Beautiful little matchboxes and even a packet of cigarettes not even opened lol! If not ill have to open a little museum
@jackravi no I have seen so much bad about etsy. I dont want to support them at all. Or amazon.
