North British Locomotive Works... we Filipino railfans had a beef with that company. You see, the direct predecessor of our Philippine National Railways, the Manila-Dagupan Railway, ordered some narrow-gauge Hudsons for passenger express service immediately before WW1. Now because of WW1 and the submarine campaign of Imperial Germany, those locomotives were unable to be delivered. Instead of delivering them after the war, NBLW sold the whole lot to the South African Railways, without apparently compensating MDR. That apparently soured relations between North British and Manila-Dagupan, because the subsequent locomotive orders were placed with Baldwin.

You should do the funniest nicknames for trains. Example - DSB's version of the German VT11.5, the MA460 class. Fantastic machines, but their nickname? The "Flygende Stovle". The "Flying Boot". An explaination of the nickname is found on the Tv Tropes "Cool Train" page. (click on the "note" bit at the end of their piece). 😀😉

I’m surprised the U.P. didn’t show interest in the 60000, as they have a history of needing big locomotives for Laramie Hill (which is what the Big Boy was for.)

Well, it was the compounding and that water-tube boiler that soured UP's interest in 60000.

Agree with you on DMU/EMU reliability. The BR, Network South East, Connex slam door stock in the UK ran and ran for years with nary a problem. Just electrics, no computers.

Next time you create a new Best Trains ever installment, you should include the Illinois Central 2600 class. According to the IC 2613 Wikipedia page, the 2600 were the most powerful 4-8-2’s ever built, and they didn’t even need any boosters or feedwater heaters, apparently.

i do have a suggestion for one to add the British Rail Class 701, while not the worst of the bad locos the numerous issues over technical issues and issues with the crew who were supposed to take themand SWRs handling like scrapping or storing the older trains before the 701s enter service and the train shortage that resorted and the number of them still in storage while only a small number have finally entered service in January over 4 years late.

47:48 I remember seeing Ultraman "live action" on TV in the 70s. Its the type if show later noted for having "a cult following". This locomotive only had a following at all bdcause yard crews bolted them together.

There's nothing wrong with SD70aces. They fixed the loudness with sound deadening.

Interestingly, in the early 1990s, two Class 232 locomotives were re-engined with Caterpillar engines in Germany as part of a test. They were considered to be very reliable and powerful and had long service intervals, but the conversion with these engines was the most complex and expensive of all three test variants. It was then decided to use the engines from Russia again because they were the cheapest and the installation was less complicated.

    1. HOW DID THEY LOSE THE LOCOMOTIVE TRUCKS?!?!
    2. 33:59 WHAT ELSE WAS MISSING THE PRIME MOVERS THEMSELVES?!?!

Well, the last one is really interesting, though we would call it a slug here in the U.S. And they’re used by actual Class 1 railroads, like Norfolk Southern. I’m pretty sure CSX, BNSF, and Union Pacific have mother-slug sets, too. So I’m not sure how they managed to ruin a perfectly good idea over there in Australia. And make it catch fire. 😔 FIRE!! It’s a hunk of metal and concrete, peoples!!

15:56 This would be improve if you add Nuclear as the fire box and better electrical generator. He is one step closer to Atomic Trains.

It works by the same principle as todays diesel-electric locomotives, except it was coal-electric, if that makes sense. Pretty cool concept actually.

How do you forget the trucks? how!!? How on earth did they even get on and off the semi trailer? And if I was the head of the railroad the phone call in that situation would probably contain over 20 different curse words. Because that's beyond bull crap

Thailand's CRRC locomotives... oh boy, Chinese build quality is... terrible, and that is saying it kindly. They might as well bought diesels from Indonesia, and those are reliable locomotives, being derived from GE designs. I wonder... do I smell... corruption in this transaction?

Seriously, can you please stop roasting British Railways every single time you bring them up. They were one of the best railways the world had ever seen and had some legendary locomotives such as the Black Five, the Class 37, the Class 43 HST, the Class 47, the Class 42 Warship, the Class 08 Shunter/Switcher, and a few others.
Not to mention, BR's original logo has a Lion proudly displayed on it. Lions symbolize strength, tenacity, ferocity, toughness, grandness, and glory.
Please. Stop. Raging. On. British Railways. It's getting very annoying.
