I don’t know a darn thing about sailing, yachting or being in the water...That said, I love watching these races, particularly in this format...to races in 25 mins! Makes for exciting watching. What must it be like on these boats !
@@bobplatt5980 these teams are not going on a leisurely Sunday sail...as a spectator it looks awesome but I imagine if your in the boat racing like your life depended in it...got to be stressful. I’ve followed the America’s cup coverage over the last 30 plus years and it’s come a long way. Coverage and the boats. The first time I saw cameras on board...sometime in the 90’s, I think with Dennis Connor...this years America’s cup is NOT that! Lol
On the plus side some nice sunny spot in the Italian part of the Med will be a lot nicer as a location for the next America's Cup than dismal Britain..

I've only just started the video to watch but wanted to say - I'm well excited about watching this. It'll be great racing whatever the outcome. Loving every second of it all. I'm going to settle in with a mug of earl Grey, relax and enjoy it all for half hour.
Ineos is marking mistakes after mistake ... as simple as that. And the boat is slower. I’m wondering how 90% of the video is on ineos and the commentators keep on talking about ineos when lunarossa is flawless

@@Rsama60 that is indeed true. Shirley Robertson is clearly rooting for Ineos, as she was on the Olympics UK team. Ken Reed is more balanced though, he's the only one picking up Luna Rossa's merit along the way. Still, I don't find it disturbing or unfair at the end of the day. It makes the storytelling spicier, but still honest. They are all fair sportspersons and they are able to give credit to the bests. The problem of us Italians is that we need to polarise the public debate to the extremes, so if we were in Italy, the commentators would do a way worse job. Let me tell you. So, as far as I am concerned, everything is still green light.

Fornus that race, we understand the conversation, bit its hard to tell sometimes who is talking. Especially when the comentators are talking over the boat feed. Just a thought. Look at how much distance the lunna rossa gains with their tacs, its insane, there are many moments but from 5:05 is a great example. INEOS is not going to win a single match sadly, lunna rossa is just slight faster throughout.
The real mistake of Ineos's team is that they didn't' understand that two skippers is better than one. Less stress, half competitive commitment, no run on the boat and two brain instead of one. This is strategy higher then the racing. For the remaining Prada competed better than Ineos. As Italian I'm very proud of them.
Impressive wins by LR. Once again starts critical which has been a constant and determining factor throughout this competition and vital in match racing. I hope Ineos steps up to prolong this final. Am curious to see if NZL still has the faster boat. Exciting racing!

Would also like to see informed commentary on how these boats get unstable in pitch (AM pitch up and capsize in the RR and now Ineos UK at the 4th start). It appears the designs of the AC 75 have little or no control margin in certain conditions. Can you please explain what is going on?
Foils acts both as wings and as brakes. Having two foils in water slows down the boat. The moment one of the foils is lifted out of water, the brake is released, the boat accelerates and, if the other foil is trimmed to give too much lift...

Find it hard to believe at this level of racing that INEOS/Ainsle keep making really simple mistakes. Also on the commentary about the lack of a tight cover in race #3, isn't it possible with all the technology on board that Luna is seeing a little more favorable pressure by holding course for a little longer. I've seen tight covers backfire by being sailed into lesser or headed wind.
Having two helms clearly gives an advantage...more control in the turns. Improved orientation.. Ben nearly got swept off boat. Why risk it, Giles is as good helmsmen , I don't understand why you'd risk this 😭 .
There is advantage with two helms only when the cominication is perfect. In round robin Spithill and Bruni didn't a great job. In semifinal vs Patriot and now in the final they are improving their job together. In my opinion two helms solution is a risk and I was skeptical about Luna Rossa more because of this choise than about the boat performance.
I dont know if with 2 helms LR got some advantage, but today looking Sir Ben travelling continuosly from the two side of Ineos like a mad, while Bruni and Spithill were full concentreted to control the race I can say that is a good option that for sure in the future somebody can take example.

UK's lucky they didn't do a flight to the sky, capsize # like the US. I don't think it's just the starts that are working so well for Luna Rossa, it's superior boat speed as well.
These boats are so close in speed this has turned almost into one-design match racing. The difference is these guys are sailing at 40+ knots. Fantastic.
I disagree. We didn't see a single lead change. Since the Christmas Cup, almost every match up is a one sided blowout affair. Much like AC35. Still, the boats are awesome to watch in action. Hopefully AC36 will at least have some lead changes.

Well done LRPP, great sailing chaps. Ineos just weren't there, particularly at the start. May I just say, in these sensitive times, the terminology of 'having their foot on their throats' I feel is a little insensitive. Looking forward to the next installment of the prada cup. Lovely job.
INEOS Team UK are better than this. Luna Rossa are a fantastic crew and whoever wins this is going to be tough competition for ETNZ. Let's hope for a close series, whoever wins! Makes it much more interesting/exciting.
I agree, where has ineos' form gone. They seemed untouchable. What has happened? Excuse the pun, but after a couple of easy wins by LRPP it seems to have taken the wind right out of ineos' sails. Chin up Sir Ben and the crew.

@Lupus1444 Well, I’ve been sailing competitively for almost 35 years and I like tight competition. I kind of like all of them. The only downer for the Brits is that I don’t like Ben Ainsley. Great sailor but not a good bloke.
My god, 40+ knots, consistently. I grew up sailing a long long time ago and never could have imagined these speeds. The thing is... what does the future hold? Will it hit a limit like a human running the mile?
A demonstratedboat speed polar plot vs true wind speed would be very interesting to compare boat potentials team by team, also would show improvements as teams change their boat configurations
I like mono hulls but I don't like the foil keels. There is little skill left. When there were single keel mono hull boats racing against each other, skill became important. Sure technology in hull design and sail design are important but the battle of skill won out. With foil keels there is skill but a fraction of a second error will end the complete race.
you think they lack skill? . .not every sailor can jump on these boats and sail them fast, agree in some respects, no sail changes during racing, but otherwise it's still a boat race and judging by the majority of comments over this cup cycle, enjoyed by most.
@@johne6479 No, since 1986? I watched single keel mono hulls and I raced single keel sailboats and the tracking duels can multiple chances to get a head or catch up. With the new boat design has some of the same but there is a difference.

@@johne6479 As I further explained to you, in the days of momo hulls and single keels it was more up to skill with out the onboard technology they have to day. To make you happy, sure there is skill required today the skills back in the day were different. If you sailed competitively with single keels there is a difference. Besides, sailing a dual foil wing kell boat that went airborne and a 3 foot hole got knocked into the hull because the hull design did not take into account of that type of failure demands questions in the current design of twin coils. @@guytrout7101 Design in the America's cup has always been pushing the boundaries, if you have been watching since 1986 you'd have seen a couple of non foiling monohulls (Australian and American)sink during races.
Britain missed their chance in that second race. If they had held the line at the start I think they would have made it and that would have pushed Italy over the line early. But hind sight is 20/20.
They had th chance. But unfortunately, their boat has proven to be Very difficult to manage in th turns. Losing grip with lotsa sideslip n tendency to lose th rudder as we saw with one near disaster at prestart (America majic trick heading for th moon). Whereas th Diego's boat is smooth n easier to control - no fighting th wheel like th "Knights o th Round Table". Unfortunately, its become obvious, if you cant maneuver th boat easily, your f'cked at th starts. "Dog Tucker". Diego's copied th Kiwi foil design, but not ao radical n mush bigger. Thats why us Kiwis are faster. "Speed, with a capital S". 😉
How Te Rehutai can get up n stay on their foils in under 7kn wth their simple anhedral mini foils is just a mystery. Mb its just simple "Kiwi Majic" (1997 NZL32)???. Interesting. Time will tell. 😉.
How do they know they were 30 yards away from attacking for the Layline? Do they have GPS based geometry programs to tell them in advance using electronics and math?
On my Firefox UA-cam the cc button is at the bottom right But my point is that it is good to see them esp for my g/f who is not English speaking first language. So I like to see them. They are just too big and too high up, so they hide the boats hulls!

Even as a Brit I’m finding the bias way too much. Of course I want to hear that Team UK are better but the evidence before our eyes is indisputable and it’s not that Team UK are better! TLR are making no mistakes, they are tactically astute, they are out sailing and out thinking Team U.K., the Italians have a deserved lead. The commentators need a dispassionate eye when it comes to the teams but a passionate eye when it comes to the sport.

These boats are a far cry from the ones I used to watch back in Newport. And soooo much faster.

When Luna Rossa was losing hard everybody blamed non-stop the two helms thing.. now that they get their team coordinated it seems a winning choice

If you win the start and then don't make any blunders, it's pretty hard to lose the race. Especially when the other team does make a few minor errors.

LR speed is constantly faster and their tacks are quicker not to mention their starts are superior

INEOS Team UK are better than this. Luna Rossa are a fantastic crew and whoever wins this is going to be tough competition for ETNZ. Let's hope for a close series, whoever wins! Makes it much more interesting/exciting.

@Lupus1444 Well, I’ve been sailing competitively for almost 35 years and I like tight competition. I kind of like all of them. The only downer for the Brits is that I don’t like Ben Ainsley. Great sailor but not a good bloke.

Ineos was undefeated going in. When were they on the "canvas?"
I like mono hulls but I don't like the foil keels. There is little skill left. When there were single keel mono hull boats racing against each other, skill became important. Sure technology in hull design and sail design are important but the battle of skill won out.
With foil keels there is skill but a fraction of a second error will end the complete race.
you think they lack skill? . .not every sailor can jump on these boats and sail them fast, agree in some respects, no sail changes during racing, but otherwise it's still a boat race and judging by the majority of comments over this cup cycle, enjoyed by most.
@@johne6479 No, since 1986? I watched single keel mono hulls and I raced single keel sailboats and the tracking duels can multiple chances to get a head or catch up. With the new boat design has some of the same but there is a difference.
@@guytrout7101 your first comment suggested these sailors have no skill, there were races over the weekend which had 17 tacks in it, not as many as some older AC races in the past but quite a lot considering the length of time and dimensions of the race course, now your latest comment has gone off on a totally different tangent.

@@johne6479 As I further explained to you, in the days of momo hulls and single keels it was more up to skill with out the onboard technology they have to day. To make you happy, sure there is skill required today the skills back in the day were different. If you sailed competitively with single keels there is a difference.
Besides, sailing a dual foil wing kell boat that went airborne and a 3 foot hole got knocked into the hull because the hull design did not take into account of that type of failure demands questions in the current design of twin coils. Thanks for you time.
@@guytrout7101 Design in the America's cup has always been pushing the boundaries, if you have been watching since 1986 you'd have seen a couple of non foiling monohulls (Australian and American)sink during races.
Luckily watched it on Sky Sport Italy with italian commentators. Ridicolous fanboys covering in english.
Britain missed their chance in that second race. If they had held the line at the start I think they would have made it and that would have pushed Italy over the line early. But hind sight is 20/20.
They had th chance. But unfortunately, their boat has proven to be Very difficult to manage in th turns. Losing grip with lotsa sideslip n tendency to lose th rudder as we saw with one near disaster at prestart (America majic trick heading for th moon). Whereas th Diego's boat is smooth n easier to control - no fighting th wheel like th "Knights o th Round Table". Unfortunately, its become obvious, if you cant maneuver th boat easily, your f'cked at th starts. "Dog Tucker".
Diego's copied th Kiwi foil design, but not ao radical n mush bigger. Thats why us Kiwis are faster. "Speed, with a capital S". 😉

Even as a Brit I’m finding the bias way too much. Of course I want to hear that Team UK are better but the evidence before our eyes is indisputable and it’s not that Team UK are better! TLR are making no mistakes, they are tactically astute, they are out sailing and out thinking Team U.K., the Italians have a deserved lead. The commentators need a dispassionate eye when it comes to the teams but a passionate eye when it comes to the sport.
