- a short colored animatic/animation for my favorite hot-headed dragon Winter! and how his heart was melting for an interest, only to be frozen again, fallen into a third wheel
i know it's the middle of hot june and i wanted to finish it when Winter's graphic novel came out on december hehe. a lot of the interactions are inaccurate, they're only there to fit the song and vibe. but i really enjoyed making this lil' fun piece before moving on to bigger things and out of Wings of Fire as a whole. stay tuned for more projects!

Winter walks the fine line between a character with a tragic backstory to motivate his actions & a character that only exists so that the universe has something to shit on like an overfed pigeon

Anyone else notice the detail at 0:43 where the cloud in between Moon and Winter is a heart which symbolizes Winter's love for Moon? And how Qibli getting between them and blocking the heart cloud is basically him separating her from Winter? Clever little detail.

winter actually doesn't end up with anybody,and snowfox was in darkstalkers era, meaning shes dead lol XD common mistake though, when i first read it i shipped winter and lynx SO MUCH.

And on top of that, his "buddies" never told him the truth about what happened to Darkstalker. With friends like these...
What good would that have done? Winter doesn’t have to know, and if he did then he just might end up having a dilemma of whether or not he should strangle a baby. Telling Winter would just cause bad unnecessary problems. His buddies don’t owe him that secret.
@@FeistyFlicker314 It is true that Winter is impulsive and pretty much feeble-minded, but I still don't find it somewhat justifiable about how his friends still didn't tell him that. I agree with you that it would probably make things worse, but again it isn't right to keep secrets, especially when it's about Darkstalker who almost wiped out Winter's tribe.

@@FeistyFlicker314i think the reason they didnt tell him is because they knew he would be against and upset that they used magic to turn a dragon into somebody else. since he has trauma from when he was pyrite for a minute.
I think he would make an exception for darkstalker though.
@FeistyFlicker314 I kind of doubt that Winter will kill Peacemaker considering that he hesitated to kill a polar bear because it had cubs. He would definitely be upset and be against the transformation but I don't find it likely that he would kill Peacemaker (especially since, as far as we know, he's never killed anyone).
And even if it is for the best that Winter never knows the truth, the reasons for the Jade Winglet not telling him feels wrong because they don't trust him and yet the jade winglet (and the narrative) still considers him their "friend" and demands that he trusts them.
In addition, considering the fact that Darkstalker attempted to wipe out Winter's tribe and magically forced Winter to like him, I do feel that he is owed the truth so that he would be given proper closure relating to his trauma with Darkstalker.

Is it just me or do I think their children would’ve been majestic😅
I love the story boarding in this so much! The way you’ve portrayed every character in a way that doesn’t villainize any one of them is so interesting. Towards the beginning it seemed like Qibli would be portrayed as a girl-stealer, but you showed how it wasn’t the case and how it was merely the result of time spent happily together. And you didn’t make it seem like Winter was at fault, just aloof and lonely. Then Moon was being friendly and ended up matching with someone other than Winter. It’s so easy to see nothing but the extremes of, “It was only bad writing that led to Winterwatcher not being canon,” and “Winter was a toxic jerk to Moon.” At the end of the day, these are just kids finding out who they are and who they want to be with, and you showed that without bias, despite one character being the center of the animatic. That takes skill, and clearly you have a lot!

Good grief am I glad I subscribed. This is perfection. Ma ol’ heart breaks for Winter. He deserves happiness. Moon wouldn’t have made him happy in the long run but man do I wish he got treated better. Poor baby. What a phenomenal animation.
Yeah but in the comic book it reveals that moon and winter can and still are canon because winter has heart thumps everytime he touches her, everyone needs to be mature enough to know that boys and girls can be SUPER close “romantic” BEST FRIENDS and nothing more, qibli is stated from the author that he will be canon with a female sandwing unlike no one else which means it could and has to be sunny so even tho they seem like a cute couple together with moon, it’s not canon

Ok, unpopular opinion, but....I don't think Winters' character development was forgotten
Yes, he still yells at his friends once in a while, but the difference is that now he has VERY justifiable reasons for doing so
In Book 8 when he yells at Turtle for keeping his magic secret: The idea that someone COULD help their Queen & Kingdom & doesn't is inconceivable to an IceWing
Later in Book 8 when he yells at Moon for saying they should free Darkstalker: Not only is that a perfectly reasonable response to hearing someone want to summon an ancient evil, but he was %100 right
Anytime when he was under Darkstalkers' spell: Doesn't count, he wasn't himself
The big blow up when he hears Moon genuinely likes Darkstalker that the Book, Characters & Fanbase see as the worst thing he ever did: How would you react if someone try to defend a guy who just tried to kill off your entire species? Oh, & again HE WAS %100 IN THE RIGHT!
It seems to me that it's less of a case of forgetful writing & more a case of the books blowing his blow ups out of proportion
Yeah I don’t think his character development was forgotten either. He just didn’t develop into the dragon Zuko like everyone expected he would. He went as far as realizing that he was happier with the dragons from other tribes he met and he was in his kingdom, but not so far as to treat those dragons with equal respect. He still had that aura going of him thinking he was better than the others and shouldn’t have to apologize for how he treated them before and that they should welcome him back with open arms. Even though he turned out to be right about Darkstalker being evil, he only had ancient stories to go off of instead of real evidence to suggest so. He was more focused on keeping Darkstalker trapped in the mountain because he thought Darkstalker deserved to suffer than he was because he thought Darkstalker was dangerous. Winter was in a “right for the wrong reasons” kind of position on that one. He also yelled in rage at Moon for trusting Darkstalker before he actually said anything about how Darkstalker brainwashed everyone and tried to wipe out his tribe, which he knew that Moon didn’t know about. He definitely didn’t lose his character development, but the books didn’t blow him out of proportion either.

At bear minimum, what Moon DID know is that Darkstalker manipulated his mind, literally brainwashing him to liking him, which was definitely, absolutely, 100% a horrible thing to do and frankly proved unequivocally that Moon and Qibli are not his friends, irrespective of their claims otherwise; Something only further compounded by their treatment of him throughout.
Another item worth mentioning here, incidentally, is that Qibli did in fact know, and still ran defense for Darkstalker with the only possible rationale I can think of being to look good in front of Moon... Which needless to say really suggests some horrible things about him, even outside of his treatment of Winter in that moment.
Honestly, the big tragedy to me is that at the end of all of that, Winter still considers them friends and blame himself...
He traded one emotionally abusive family for another.

Depends on your word per minute, but, yeah, two minutes doesn't sound unreasonable.
My personal WPM is roughly 100. Used to be much faster before I injured my hand.

Woahhhhh awesome animation! Not only is it SMOOTH ASF, those expressions are 🤌
This beautifully animated music video expresses how Winter was pressured by his strict tribe, and responded by acting rude to it, eventually discovering his love for a Nightwing ,to realize his Sandwing clawmate was a dragon that treated her better.
In every scenario, Winter is shown as an irritated dragon, indicating that he always managed to find a way to be negative and pessimistic.
At the end, where the trio is at Possibility, and where the animation shows Winter escalating to the Ice Kingdom with his brother, Hailstorm, it shows Hailstorm distressed, indicating the whole Pyrite dilemma.
The somewhat wholehearted quote from Winter was a delicious cherry on top!

Like my guy did nothing wrong, he was always right to yell, (To Moon in book 8 like MOON????? WHAT WERE YOU THINKING???) and i just hope we get to see him find someone who appreciates him soon :( his story is just so sad to me

Wait theory: qible (idiot clawmate) let the scavenger out so winter could see moon and fall in love because winter would finally be happy. But qible got jealous and and decided to take moon and then they fell in love!
Aaah! I can’t stop watching this it’s so good! It also majorly changes my view of Winter. I thought he was just a dude who had a bad childhood and hate for nightwings so he took that out on Moon. But now I realize it’s more so Quibli is almost the bad guy in his eyes. Nonetheless the art and animation is amazing ❤ you’ve earned a new sub!

Ah, Winter. A forgotten character by Tui and his friends. But no wonder in the end only Winter would not be the hypocrite "the end justifies the means." his friends said and did. Only he wouldn't want Darkstalker to be turned into another dragon so Tui got rid of him so there would be no "problem".

BAHA- ok but this is an incredible PMV, winter has to be one of the most left out main characters, in my opinion he needs better friends, except for lynx and Kinkajou those two are actually good to him. We need a book on lynx because i wanna see how she sees winter. Moon was someone who could calm winter down and Qibli was someone who could make cheesy jokes for him to laugh at, but the thing is moon knew winter had something for her and instead of confronting him that she liked qibli more, SHE JUST DITCHED HIM- which broke his heart more than it would if she had just told him about it. And then they were all sad when winter chose his OWN brother over them, its family he's gonna do that.

arc 3 winter could have actually been so good with moon, arc 2 winter wouldn’t have been a good thing but arc 3 winter could have some redemption 😔
Ik ngl im a qibli hater,,, like to me he seemed like he had no flaws besides his troubling childhood and that was just kinda icky and I don't get why everyone likes him. I've never been one to ship any of these 3 characters really but I'd be a winterwatcher shipper personally bc I just kinda hate qibli lol.

I think Qibli is a fine character if a bit overrated. What I don't like is Tui's preferential treatment of him; like, you can tell he's one of her favorites and she's pretty reluctant to show him in a bad light. Imo Qibli's not quite at Gary Stu level, but there are times he comes pretty close to skirting the line.
