SIDE NOTE, PLEASE READ: I am aware of the fact that Vivian Kubrick is, very unfortunately, a rampant Q*n*n fanatic who has openly supported the Pr*ud B*ys, and has shamelessly spread a*tis*mitic conspiracy theories. By quoting her here, I am in no way endorsing or supporting Vivian as a person, and I am extremely disappointed that she has fallen into this trap of hateful, harmful rhetoric.
However, even a broken clock is right twice a day-her criticism towards Dr. Phil and her defense of Shelley is powerful, admirable, and most of all, the truth. Regardless of her beliefs, I still feel that her words here are important. I do hope she eventually finds truth in other aspects of her life and in the lives of others, and recognizes the harm she’s causing by aligning herself with these groups.
EDIT: since a few people have asked-no, that is NOT an AI Shelley you’re hearing! Julie Meghan Brown is just an incredibly talented actor who absolutely nailed Shelley’s voice and I couldn’t thank her and the other voice artists more for helping this video truly come to life ❤️

You & the rest of us who live to maintain the Safety & Peace deserve better too. You need to hear from a victim of vile "holy" child abuse who is not religious & studied The Bible & the history of "We love God" empires, nations & leaders since 15. I am now 65 and have been appealing to leaders, media, stars & influencers since 2000. "The Abomination" label was put on gay men by the Roman Catholic Papacy that omits what the "male lying with the male" means and, evidently, the LGBTQ Elites don't mind & have no intent of actually teaching what "the abomination" means. The Bible is not to be literalized per the "dead letter" revelation. You have far more power online than I will ever have. I've been appealing to popes, kings, queens & leaders since 2000. Why this global silence from people making money griping & moaning about the racism, Anti-Jew, Anti-Gay, Anti-Women, wars & genocides? "The Jew"& "The Gentile" are not to be labels defining types of literal humans by way of their ancestry or religion but are terms 100% about character over all else. Do you live to circumcise or cut-away or abort rising desires to hurt others before giving them life and instead finding the solution that does no harm?
I enjoy you & your videos so much. Please consider learning about the ancient problem source & ancient solution that, if ever taught to mankind, initiates peace on earth. This older video gives a long, partial list of the many to whom I've appealed starting 24 years ago. This is the Biblical solution that involves no further hate-building or violence. I won't put the link here but the video is titled: WHY “THE JEWS” ARE NOT “RESPONSIBLE FOR ALL THE TROUBLES OF THE WORLD” ENDS ANTISEMITISM & WAR.
Love to you & your family & friends, from Reno, Nevada. Stay well.

I would like to add that at the 20:48 mark in my relatively recent video about "The Nephilim & 'Abomination'" I begin the explanation about what "the abomination" means by first explaining what the spiritual "male" ('masculine' nature) & "female" ('feminine' nature) means that lives within all of us. I love this site & the many folks exposing the hypocrisies before us, but there is a solution, one that has been kept unspoken for a reason.

Shelley was living her life the way she wanted. She wasn't hurting anyone. Somebody (curiosity seeker?) found her living in rural TX. She was brought back into the public, not knowing or realizing what internet culture is like now. People criticized her. For EVERYTHING. They still are. Many interviews I've seen show her seemingly happy to have been in a movie again and also seemingly happy to have people come and talk to her. I am glad for any happiness she found through this. Otherwise, people should really be quiet about everything else. She was a beautiful human.

You left out one of the most heartbreaking things about her later years, and I don't blame you. When she went back to Texas, she was basically living out of her car. Someone noticed her a few years ago, and went up to talk to her, and of course, put it up on UA-cam. This led to many people seeking her out, and like you mentioned, she was so nice that she'd talk to everyone. Double Toasted, which is a channel based outside of Austin, covered it, and the main guy who runs the channel (Korey) mentioned he wanted to go visit her and say hi, but that he didn't want to exploit her any further. It's just the saddest story for someone who deserved so much better in life.

Take 3 could have been perfect for all we know. A truly good director has the ability to recognize gold when they see it, and I suspect Kubrick passed a BUTTLOAD of gold just to satisfy his own ego. When you’re a perfectionist, at some point “I can do better” becomes a lie you tell yourself because your inner critic won’t shut up. That critic isn’t looking for quality, it just wants to work you until you drop.
Inflicting that on other people is sick.

@tankiegoku That doesn't mean the film had to be or should have been made this way. Putting your actors through this much of an emotional wringer "for the sake of the performance" means that you don't trust these professional actors to act convincingly unless you force them into a similar headspace to the character.
We don't know which takes were really the best. If take 6 is perfect then there's seriously no reason to continue until take 136. And Shelley Duvall really didn't need this "extra help." She had frequently worked with Robert Altman by the time she made The Shining, and while Altman had a _very_ different way of directing actors to Kubrick, that way still speaks to her skill as an actor. Duvall making up her own lines for Three Women may have been Queen Shit, but it was also standard operating procedure for an Altman film - his style emphasized improv, spontaneity and naturalism, so the actors had a lot of responsibility for the overall direction and narrative of the film and the development of their characters. She clearly knew her shit. She didn't need to actually be put in the same position as Wendy Torrance to give a convincing performance.

Kubrick treated her horribly and it's hard to watch a lot things these days knowing what these people did. Like how Marlon Brando sexually assaulted women
When it comes to a clockwork orange, Kubrick based the movie on the American book release which didn't have the last chapter because American publishers didn't like that the protagonist goes back to being a criminal

Just found Queen a few days ago myself and she'd quickly become my favorite commentary channel on UA-cam. Just going through the catalog of videos has me looking forward to future topics and her takes on them. I find her to be criminally undersubbed for her content's quality.
Side note just for fun, I'm a 34 year old hetero male, a demographic which is probably not the target audience, nevertheless I have thoroughly enjoyed these videos.

I feel she was autistic like me. The “manic pixie dream girl” thing is very much a stereotype of undiagnosed autistic people assigned female. I was described in all these same ways, and I am hugely creatively intelligent but have been ignored because I couldn’t pass math class and now I can’t do typical labor. I believe many autistic people end up unhoused unless their actual, non-conforming skills have a place somewhere. Shelly was said to have ended up living in her car for a time later in her life once she wasn’t in the public eye. It’s disgraceful how uniquely minded people are praised when they’re useful to others, then cast aside once they need anything at all in return. People will enjoy the benefit of you without ever actually going deep enough to understand you or to care about you. Too many unhoused or disenfranchised geniuses (code for autism I believe). That is why this world does not change.

I didn't take your Shelly joke as being in bad taste when I watched that video because I instantly understood it was not meant to punch down, but I can definitely see how a lot of people would take it that way and I thought your apology was very sweet. The Shining is one of my favorite horror movies but it's hard not to cringe while watching knowing that the real horror was behind the scenes. I'm glad Shelly seemed to forgive and move on, couldn't be me.

I'm so appalled to hear about her treatment in Hollywood and by Dr. Phil, I really didn't know up until know. The fact that all of her solo projects were light-hearted kids media just goes to show how gentle of a spirit she had... yet a really strong spirit at the same time with an insane dose of dignity. I would cuss out every and anyone who would dare give me even a crumb of the treatment she endured. Also I cannot fathom the backhanded "compliment" on her beauty?? She was made for 70s makeup looks, her headshot photographs are some of the most beautiful I have ever seen because her eyes uniquely pop and the look in her eyes just conveys her inner elegance. Rest in peace.

the shining would not be the enduring classic it is without Shelley. That moment on the stairs is one of the scariest scenes in movie history. I am terrified for her character in that moment. Her performance in that movie is transcendent. It would be a ridiculous mess without her character to ground it. She never got the credit she deserved and considering what she suffered on that set... that's a fucking tragedy.

She is the embodiment of the Goddess and had to battle the Patriarchy her whole life.

I respect Stanley Kendrick for what he wanted to tell in his stories-stories that made you think about what was going on in the world in way Spielberg never could, but…with seeing the shining behind the scenes, I am reminded of Carlton Fisk’s HOF speech when he spoke of his dad. To paraphrase: “dad, you pushed me, you rarely gave me positive criticism, I couldn’t be here without you…BUT …couldn’t you praise me once…?”
Kubrick, Jack, and the crew really went too far. And yes Stan has always been hard on his team, and it helped the film, but why treat a person as if they fucked up?

Wow.... I probably knew more than most about SD but still learned a LOT here! Normally I'd feel a little sad that your video didn't challenge/change my previous conclusions, but you added so much depth to her and reinforced some ideas that I knew I had accepted from coworkers largely on faith. Any truly fact-based deep dive often shows me where I've mistakenly accepted someone's narrative (an awesome experience, coming to learn where oneself was wrong). Yet this time I'm thrilled that, while you have adjusted much of my understanding, my biggest take-away is that you reinforced the one idea that I had hoped would prove true: that Shelley was at least as awesome a person as I had originally heard from so many people who worked with her.

My far too often stated opinion about the difference between the book and film of The Shining. The book is about alcoholic scared he'll hurt his family. The film is about a family scared an alcoholic will hurt them.
The infamous cigarette ash scene is probably the best example of this as Duvall plays the scene as someone desperately trying to convince herself that her husband hurting Danny was an accident.
