Ask any Turk you want you will get the same answer. "The Anzac's were not our enemy.. " We did not want the war, we protect our homeland for the sake of our lives.. We fought, shed blood and died together..

Attended in 2002 when there were over 20k. Very moving experience. Wonderful nation, wonderful people. who would have thought that such horrors could bring us together. A testiment to the Turks and their nature to accept us every year. In the museam on diplay are a number of bullets that were fused in flight, demonstrating the intensity of the battles. I remember seeing one display of 3 bullets actually fused together.

I appreciate that Anzac people recognise our indulgence and respect towards their history and memorials. That proves their integrity.

Yeah nah idk I've never been able to get behind this "one and free" change. The new generations will learn it and it willl be natural to them but "young and free" is the lyrics for me. Its what I learnt as a kid and its what the lyrics are for me. My great grandfather, a brave airforce navigator in world war 2 in Lancaster bombers. I have the honour of wearing your medals as your decendant, I make your service and legacy live on. My father also, an infantryman that served in the East Timor crisis. I am so honoured that my family has served the great nation of which I live. LEST WE FORGET

If I recall it was the Australian Prime Minister of the the day that made a Captain's call to change the wording (not Abbott) - the same person who made himself minister of everything without telling anyone. It includes a GG who allowed this to be signed off

I've grown up with it being 'young and free' and the change has been quite painless for me. My father grew up with no Advance Australia Fair only God Save the Queen (AAF has only been our anthem since 1984 - quite recent in my books). In fact, he did have to put up with the change from King to Queen - yes he's that old. If he's managed to cope well with all these changes - it's all about your attitude.

As the grandson of a Çanakkale (Gallipoli) veteran, I've been watching these Dawn Services for quite sometime. Such a moving experience, commemorating those lost on both sides.
As for my great grandfather Mehmet Ali... While fighting alongside the Ottoman forces, he was hit by a shrapnel stuck in his jaw. In utter shock, he fell motionless and was presumed dead. But when his brothers in arms realized he was alive, he was taken to a military hospital for treatment, but the shrapnel stayed there till his death.
Due to the wound caused by the shrapnel, the left side of his lips skewed downwards, giving him an unusual look (freaky look as he had used to call it). Even when he returned to his hometown, he had a hard time reuniting with his family, anxious that they'd be afraid of his 'freakish' look. May they all rest in peace...

Both my Granddads ( South Lancashire Regiment) and both from Widnes, fought alongside the Anzacs at Gallipoli and both survived the war. They always spoke of their total respect and the bravery of the Anzacs. Always remembered and never forgotten, remember the fallen. ❤

I really love that the General of New Zealand decided to put the wreath at the position of the NZ flag 🇳🇿 On behalf of him and the Defence Force of New Zealand. He's must felt a bit emotional when he salute 😔. I'm from Australia 🇦🇺 & Lest We Forget ⚘

Those heroes that shed their blood and lost their lives ... You are now lying in the soil of a friendly country. Therefore rest in peace. There is no difference between the Johnnies and the Mehmets to us where they lie side by side here in this country of ours ... You, the mothers who sent their sons from faraway countries, wipe away your tears; your sons are now lying in our bosom and are in peace. After having lost their lives on this land they have become our sons as well 🇹🇷🙏

You try to be a nice person in life to people. and all i get is Discriminated by other Vet's, Families their Friends and all because they think they had HARD. Every year that i try go to these Events! it's always the same thing. If it's not the way i look. It's the way i sound when i talk. I can't believe that my Family thought and Died, just so their Family Members can be treated like they don't deserve to live any more.
