Venom's live album called "A little night music" is one the best live albums ever put out by anyone. You can hear just how incredibly loud they was that night at the Hammer, They played there quite a few times but this one recording was absolutely stellar, They played most of their killer songs and they sounded immaculate, The sound coming out of cronus's bass was like thunder, You can literally feel it shatter your soul if you crank it up on a good system, I was reading some reviews on it from various places and they was giving it 2 stars and ragging on it. These people nowadays don't know good sounding metal even if it was up their asses, Don't they know how hard it is to play your music exactly and to have that kinda sonic quality when playing at the Hammer, Its pure metal destruction this live album is and I'd put it up against any other live album, A little night music by Venom quite possibly one the best sounding metal of album of all time
if i remember correctly. that live album had "Love Amongst The Dead".. what album is that from?? I've been a VENOM fan since 1985 and thats still a mystery to me.
My mate lived next to the lead singer (Clive Archer) at that time in Haltwhistle , man great nights pubs never shut if you know what i mean. best time of my life. haltwhistle people are great. love this band , changed my life.Thank you for the vid.
What I'm trying to say is that venom is the beginning of extreme metal in general and even if you don't like them you should grant their great contribution to metal.
Jakob Wilder Yes, definitely Mercyful Fate. I'd even say Hellhammer. These 5 bands, I believe, maybe not shaped, but influenced the thought and direction that Norwegian Black Metal would take.
You guys forgot SODOM, they even call themselves black metal in their EP's lyrics.... Sodom were around before metallica and slayer... FACT... SODOM influenced speed, thrash, black , and death metal....
Kadesh Le Morte Yes, most definitely Sodom. Metallica didn't really influence Black Metal the way Slayer and Venom did, though. Sodom most definitely influenced the Black Metal scene. Although, the first real Black Metal, that we would recognize as Black Metal, was Bathory's 'Under the Sign of the Black Mark', particularly the song 'Equimanthorn'. Black Metal in the 1980's was far more closer to Slayer...a form of Thrash, then what it would become when bands like Mayhem and Darkthrone came around.
Who's saying metallica? according to Venom metallica were a bunch of spoiled rich kids that did nothing but bitch moan and complain on their first tour together, venom made mad fun of those guys..,. Fuck metallica... the first album was ok... besides that... metallica are garbage as far as I'm concerned...
Venom obviously influenced all forms of extreme metal. There are of course many debates about what genre they are, but I think they should simply be called extreme metal. Calling them thrash metal and black metal both makes sense though, these claims are in my opinion both backed up by legitimate arguments. Furthermore I see no reason for metal fans to hate on other genres, I love all forms of extreme metal. Thrash, Death, Black, Grind, old and new, it's all fucking metal and I love it.
They're black metal in its purest form. everything you mention , came after. Venom is black metal, because musically they did things that had not been done at that point, plus the image, and lyrical stance made them the first black metal band. take this point, boxers from almost 150 years ago hardly resemble their counterparts today, but are still called "boxers". venom , while being the root of Bathory , Mayhem, Emperor and those bands, does not sound like them, but they evolved from Venom. Venom is as black metal as it gets.
It's like the comments that preceded mine didn't even read the original post or if they did, they didn't comprehend it in the slightest.
