#1 - Google does not lose engineers because their vision and cause is so big - they are big thinkers. #2 If your golf game is par you are probably not in the trenches with your team, you are an aristocrat. #3 Two kinds of egos are low level egos and high level egos. Awesome PHPU class today, Patrick! Thank you! Lynda Ereshan - DELTA base shop

1: because their vision and causes so big that they are not afraid of losing talent and they keep getting good people to their organization because they are big thinkers
2: because they're spending too much time on the golf course instead of spending it WITH their team.
3: lower-level eager, someone who wants respect, but is coachable. The other ego someone who's not coachable who believes there are higher than the others.

Thank you for always sharing your years of wisdom and experience as a leader , Im excited to read all those books !!:) 1) google isn't afraid to loose people, they have a vision that is in the stomachs of their leaders keeping them in the trenches which leads me to #2 if the leader of a company is spending too much time in the golf course they're focus has shifted beyond building on the mission of the company . #3) 1 ego is aware of their strengths but constantly willing to listen and learn new ways of improving while the other ego makes a person content in what they already know and no longer willing learn or adapt :) BURBANK 300!!!!!

Google does not lose engineers because they're cause and vision is so big!
    The two types of egos:
One is try think they are a badass and the other one just wants to be respected.
What it means to be handicapped in golf; you're spending too much time golfing that you lose time in connecting with people.

Great Video. 1. Google as Patrick Bet-David states is not losing engineers because they're CEOs are in the grind there with them. They are not like other top Multi-Billion dollar companies whose CEOs just go ahead and leave them behind and go play golf. 2. Leaving your team and company as a CEO while you yourself go and play golf for a week does not give your team ambition to work for you. They have to see you working on the same goals. 3. Loyalty will get stronger in times of friction. You just need to learn how to deal with the different types of egos. Don't confuse the egos of people who want credit for the things that they don't do and don't have a high ego just because you are performing. There are some who praise themselves highly but do not perform. We want crazy people with crazy egos to drive and lead their own teams. Just know how to settle your own ego aside and ask from advice from your team. Constantly ask for other peoples opinion. The bigger we get, the more advice we need. The PHP Agency

Lesson: Continued ...9.) Treat everyone fairly, but not equally. The high performers will not stay if they are treated the same as the low performers. Make sure you lean towards Capitalism. 10.) You can't challenge everybody the same way. Everybody has a different way of learning. You must help each person individually. 11.) Protect their Ego. People can have Egos, but also want to learn. Learn to challenge others and keep their Ego. 12.) Ask for their opinions regularly. Make sure you let them know that you might not implement their thoughts, but you want their feedback. 13.) Persuade instead of manipulate. Look for calculated leaders, not manipulating leaders. Make sure you are calculated but not manipulative.
14.) Don't take credit for their ideas. If you take credit for their idea, you will lose their loyalty. 15.) Give People the opportunity to earn equity in the company. People tend to take care of their possessions better. Have examples of succsefull leaders that you personally have developed. Have proof of developing leaders to earn respect from others. 17.) Don't act perfect!
This is a great video. I wrote down the books and added them to my list. Thanks for the info Patrick!

Treat everyone equitably (if you deliver you get to perform) don't manipulate your followers. Let them take ownership of their work through owning a part of the company. Learn how to lead their egos, and how to manage yours. Be yourself.

Answer to question 2 - handicap on par in golf means that you don't spend your time playing golf while your team works for you, you should not be good at golf, you should be good at leading your team.
Answer for question 3 - two types of egos
    1. Someone who wants respect but is coach able and teachable, who has an ego to win and learn. 2. Someone who puts their knowledge up front and is big headed about it. Focuses on fancy degrees and doesn't want to learn.

Thank you, Patrick, for this great video! Enjoying PHP University for the first time. Homework questions: 1. Google is not losing engineers since they are not afraid of losing people. Google leaders are Big thinkers who stay in the Game with their team.
    2. This article gives the definition of par handicap as an Aristocrat or Bureaucrat, one who does not spend time in the office.
    3. The two different types of egos given are lower level egos who are teachable and coachable, who want respect but at the same time want you to explain "why" to them. the second type of ego is a high ego with a "degree" which keeps them from being coachable since they already know it all.

    1. Because their vision and cause is so big & they are not afraid to lose people because they are big thinkers
    2. you are a bureaucrat
    3. Lower level- want help & earn respect/need to know why
Higher Level (Big) - think they are above the others....but we need them too.

Google is not losing engineers becasue senior management are big thinkers, not afraid of losing talent and work, not play golf six days a week. If you're golf handicap is par, you're probably a bureaucrat. Two types of egos - low level, who want respect, will ask for help, and are coachable and teachable, and the second is one who thinks they know everything and consider themselves above everyone else.

Great points and makes one reflect on what we can improve!
Google is not losing many engineers because their cause and their vision is big. They stand for something.
If your handicap in golf is PAR, it probably means you're a Bureaucrat or an Aristocrat.
There are 2 different types of egos; one that is lower level that is looking for respect but is also coachable. And the other is one that believes they are above all the lower level with their "fancy" degrees and certifications.
Thank you for all the book suggestions and reminding us how important it is to READ!!!

    1. Google isn't losing engineers because Google's vision and cause is so big that they aren't afraid of losing talent so they attract the best engineers because they are big thinkers.
    2. If your handicap in golf is par it means you are probably a beaurocrat/aristocrat because you're spending too much time on the golf course. These people are not in the trenches with their team.
    3. There are two types of ego. The first is a lower level ego in which the person wants respect and wants to perform and continues to ask why. They are coachable and these are the kinds of egos you want. The other kind of ego is the type that thinks they are better than everyone and are not coachable. These people think they know everything and are not open to grow. You don't want these people.

How do you share or start sharing your company with the top performers in it, and how much would you share and with how many people?

    • @VALUETAINMENT
      @VALUETAINMENT  8 років тому +2

+Peter Istrate There are many ways of doing that. The key is for you to ask yourself who you want to stay with you long term. And what type of performance do you want to get out of them. You can usually drive people who own a piece of something more than those who don't. You will always have the lazy who just want to get something for free but not if you position it properly.

You become handicapt because you turn into an aristocrat and stop going in the trenches and spending too much time golfing.

Answer number 1. Google is don't lose engineers because they don't focus on the lose of people.
Answer 2. When you are handicapped on par that means that you are not spending time getting good at golf. You are working side by side with everyone. Like the leader at zapoos...
Answer 2. The first kind of ego is the coach able type that needs to know why things are done. The other kind like to talk about how much degrees they have. They are not coach able because they don't want to learn the basics of the system. They are the ones that we don't want to work with.
