I really don't think I need to explain to many of you how much I love Super Mario 64. It was one of the first games I beat, I speedrun it to this day, and I always find myself coming back for more. Slider is one of the most prominent songs in the game so I didn't take on covering this song lightly. Carlos came to San Diego and with the recent release of Mario Maker 2, we thought it'd be a perfect opportunity to take this one on!
Carlos introduced me to the impressive world of the Gospel Shout style, which ended up being the inspiration behind the arrangement. We really wanted to have just an absolute apeshit arrangement. I'm always trying to create contrast in arrangements to make the crazy parts sound crazier so I added a few moments of break right before getting right back into it. Having Carlos to shred the parts with me really opened up a lot of possibilities for distributing all the parts.
This is a really important song for me and we wanted to make it equally as silly and awesome as the original. Hope you enjoy what we did with it!

Saxophone and electric guitar is a combination of lead instruments not often done. It's a really interesting sound actually, and I'm not sure why it's not done more. And this song with its main melody and countermelody lines is a really good one to showcase the two instruments in a duet.
