Doesn't matter... Abjure is still great in the deck... and a lot of other decks that create 1/1 blue tokens... Alela, Talrand.... you get the gist. Sac 1 and counter that wipe or troublesome Commander or Teferi or Agent of Treachery...(it's counter any spell).

Dev, I really do implore you to check out Yedora, Grave Gardener. When another nontoken creature you control dies, it returns to play face down as a Forest land. This enables a very interesting mono-green aristocrats playstyle that's a lot of fun to build and learn. Yedora is a cheap uncommon that doesn't get nearly enough attention from aristocrat players.
Coming in a good 2+ months late, here’s my favorite commanders: Myrkul, Lord of Bones - because sometimes your pillow fort needs a pillow fort Cadira, Caller of the Small - bunnies. Need I say more? Karona, False God - I have a build with a load of Background enchantments that just make her absolutely wild. Meren of Clan Nel Toth - my first, my beloved. My favorite commander is Jorn, God of Winter. My first deck ever was a cold snap snow matters precon, so a snow matters commander fills a special role in my heart.
One of my favorite commanders to build has got to be Minsc, Beloved Ranger. The game plan is just to play them and pump the token they make to ridiculous levels, and the hilarity of a 1/1 hamster with trample never ceases to get a chuckle out of me. Also, since it's in green and white, you could build it for enchantress too if you wanted. There's just so much fun to be had and no one will ever get mad that they lost to a 40/40 hamster.

Soo for years i thought i was playing cube... apparently i made a new way to play that works an is crazy fun. Booster box of boosters. Pulled all lands,tokens, and extras. Everyone draws from master deck. Beginning of turn gets one land up to ten. Life at 40. Then commanders as normal an rest like normal magic. Take out any copies over 4. Been a blast at my table. Sounds crazy give it a shot might enjoy it as much as my play group does.
Hey Dev! Love your content, was very happy to see Wort, she's the best (I play her as forest tribal w/ awaken the woods and bonus tokens for every forest, you know, fun stuff). If you really want to piss off your table, play *Possibility Storm*. You get three spells - the base cast, since you're conspiring it, has a single copy going on the stack, and you can conspire the spell you get from the PS trigger as well! Everyone else gets nothing! Be prepared to be beat up in an alley and have your cards taken though. Or at least a rule-0 conversation to prepare them for mental agony. Great stuff.

I started playing when SOI came out, and Thing in the Ice has always been one of my favorites. I had Consuming Aberration up to a 68/68 and finally attacked someone with a deathtouch creature, because it was slowing down the game so much when everyone had to keep counting their graveyards. My favorite commander is Jinnie Fay, of course, because cats. I recently added Yenna to that deck, as she can copy each of the token doublers I have out (Doubling Season, etc), turning the first one into at least an 8x, because it doubles the token she creates of itself, and then it just gets ridiculous.

It's a 5 mana 10/8 that says, "Other creatures have 'when this creature attacks, you may have it fight Grothama, All Devouring." It also says,"Whenever Grothama leaves the battlefield, each player draws cards equal to the amount of damage dealt to Grothama this turn by sources they control." Its a real hoot-and-a-half, boy I tell you what.
I've been having a lot of fun with Smeagol, Helpful Guide. I've seen a lot of builds that focus on landfall but it's really a ramp/mill/reanimate commander for me.
Akiri, Fearless Voyager has a Lotta history for me, cause the first commander deck I ever built was Akiri, Line Slinger voltron with Ishai to snag blue for artifact and draw support. Couple years after I'd taken that old thing apart, who should come along but my old friend, now a solo act. Tried recapturing the voltron thing at first, which did not go anywhere. Then, I eventually remade the deck with the philosophy of "assemble a team of the scrappiest dudes imaginable, hand em each a weapon, and fight like hell." My favorite deck, both to play and tinker on. Love it, and love my girl being back on top after all this time.

I love playing Masumaro, First to Live as an obscure commander that’s basically just a vanilla creature. My list is essentially Rishkar’s Expertise tribal with ways to give Mark evasion and one-hit players with 30 cards in your hand (in mono green no less!)
Merry Christmas Dev. My favorite commander/ card has got to be OG Daretti, I've made/ remade this commander a billion times and if a deck is red, he's going in it.
He's not from this year but I play a D&D-themed *_Grenzo Dungeon Warden Wandering Monsters Deck._* 54 creatures, 11 artifacts and 35 lands (I like to think of them as rooms in the dungeon), it concentrates very heavily on ETB effects. Play Grenzo for 4 power and let the fun begin. When you have enough mana available, and a sac outlet you can often win by accident. It's a combo deck where you have very limit control over which combo occurs, as there isn't a lot in the deck that helps you stack the bottom of library. Sometimes I will swap monsters out just for the look on my opponent's faces when they see what's around the next corner. Side note: the only creature in the deck with a power greater than 4 is _Syr Konrad the Grim._ Generally, Grenzo can only pull him when one of the goblin lords is in play.
Blue Braids is a blast. Normally you don't want to give your opponents free things, but you fill your deck with BIGGER things. It makes for fast, explosive games, and you can punish with bounce stuff. My approach is Sea Monsters with some big artifacts like Portal.
I don't play commander but I play a lot of historic brawl. I've been having a lot of fun with nahiri the harbinger! Her +2 is rummage and her -2 is exile a tapped creature, tapped artifact, OR enchantment So if you have a blind obedience or authority of the consuls it's unbeatable.
Sharing the same loves of aristocrats and obscure creature types, I might point you towards Lagomos, Hand of Hatred! I was looking for a commander to lead my Lorwyn aggro elementals deck, and he's AWESOME. Lorwyn elementals tend to blow themselves and others up, which feeds Lagomos' ability perfectly. The bonus: also will be BONKERS in a Caesar deck once you get it cooking.
I have a lot of commanders I like. The first deck I built was angry Omnath, and Brudiclad is probably my best deck, but in terms of sheer joyous fun to play it is hard to beat Gishath: look, all these dinosaurs suddenly appeared!
As a fellow aristocrats lover, I have an Edgar Markov aristocrats deck that I love. Though I used Edgar cause I couldn’t find a Mardu aristocrat commander at the time that I built it, so it is nice to see Caesar coming out. I also love my Nevinyrral deck that plays around with game theory/MAD theory. And then my boi Gishath cause I love me some freaking dinosaurs.
In the discord, we have a mostly unspoken competition to post a link to each new video faster than anyone else. I won this time. ActualCatLady and Needstrong were close, but I got it all this time
The dimir pirate is awesome. I just discovered him earlier this year and immediately changed my dimir commander and fit my deck perfectly already cuz I had mostly horrors and nightmares and was built around discarding and graveyard manipulation 😉
Kykar, Winds Fury. Dopamine hit every time I draw a card and that’s all that deck does. I guess that’s why storm is one of my favorite things to play? XD I also really enjoy tribal (btw Snakes is a great under developed tribe to build around), mono red burn (Neheb The Eternal), and self mill (Sidisi, Brood Tyrant).
Two of my commanders who I think you'd love Dev are Hallar, the Firefletcher (Gruul kicker thats super budget because kicker cards are mostly draft chaff BUT it can close out a game so quickly) and Burakos, Party Leader/Folk hero (Orzhov party that accrues value over time, can have sacrifice synergies, or stax if you want to be mean like me)
Great vid Dev! I'm really liking the Mycotyrant as a commander rn. I just stick a bunch of mill cards and golgari reanimator good stuff and that seems to work out pretty well
I recommend giving Aegar, the Freezing Flame a spin... stompy giants and wizards with spell bombs that draw you tons of cards... plus, on ETB you get to press play on J. Giles for his intro music.
Isshin is a lot of fun. Krav and Regna is one of my all time favorite decks (I think Regna should have been called Maga so it would be my Krav Maga deck) Eriette is my latest build. Great fun. We have that one in common. Otrimi is great. Not many people go with the mutate theme. I could go on for a while. But yeah, it is a great format and I think it is awesome that you create some content on commander as well sometimes.
I think my favorite commanders are the partner pair of Trynn, Champion of Freedom and Silvar, Devourer of the Free. It's Human kindred with an aristocrats sub theme that I think you'd really enjoy!

My personal favorite Commander is Thalisse, Reverent Medium. I built her as an aggro deck where I dump out a bunch of tokens and turn them sideways. People rarely anticipate Orzhov aggro.
Minn is on my top ten list as well. Sadly, she's not available on MTGO (along with some other pretty dope commanders like Bennie Bracks). Gret video. Happy Holidays!
have a great holiday season too, dev! i dont have a favourite commander, because my deck doesnt run one. its a mono green deck with every creature being legendary and its a quick random shuffle to find todays commander. it needs to be retooled, but its fun and different. although technically, flip nissa should be the commander, so maybe her?... but on another note - "card story time with dev where you tell us those fun stories with the likes of meloku et al sounds like a neat video series"
Gitrog is my personal favorite commander but if you want some quirky to picks to think about I also play a Gimli, Mournful Avenger Gruul aristocrats deck and Acerak dungeon "storm" deck where you play a bunch cards that make him cheaper then try and go through the dungeons as many times as possible.
Honestly I have so many decks that it's hard to call any one of them my favorite. Teysa Karlov because killing things is so nice when the triggers happen twice. Nine-Fingers Keene because Baldur's Gate 3 is an incredible game and they added a ton of excellent support for the Gates deck in Battle for Baldur's Gate Marisi, Breaker of the Coil to play mastermind as I force my opponents to murder each other for my amusement Marchesa, the Black Rose or Nihiloor when I want to play everyone else's decks Burakos/Folk Hero for an absurdly powerful Party deck And my typal commanders like The Scarab God and Tovolar I even have a Rule 0 Selesnya Enchantress that runs Ajani, Mentor of Heroes as the commander. Part of what makes the format so fun is that there are a ton of perfectly viable strategies out there if you're willing to build them.
Sliver Queen for life. I’ve had one since 1997?? 98??? And I play that because I like casting her and it never happened back in the day of my 139 card sliver pile. People hate me off the table but idc because I just try and cast her once before I get killed
Nekusar is my favorite commander, but my deck based around Syr Konrad is definitely moving up. It's not a deck designed around Konrad's ability, but instead it is a Black Dragons and Knights deck. Playing a bunch of cards I otherwise wouldn't anywhere else (Hello Catacomb Dragon!), and it just seems to "work", without being overbearing. :) And as far as creature types that need more love: THRULLS! I am still waiting for some good cards to be able to help my poor Thrull Deck, as well as a more thematic Partner commander than Ravos, either White or Orzhov. Definitely need more Thrull support, and Thrulls in general.
Also hell yeah, shout out to Killian! Eriette is essentially just a better commander for the exact deck idea I had when I saw Killian, so I'm glad to see them in the same place here.
I have a soft spot for my Zaxara the Exemplary deck. I'll never get tired of slapping a Freed from the Real on it for an infinite Torment of Hailfire. Yes. I know, I'm getting coal for Christmas. Happy Holidays y'all!

I love aetherflux reservoir. It has infinite combos with bolas's citadel and top. So that's always a cool idea.
I also like it in decks heavy with black draw to make them not hurt as much over time too

Zedruu the GoatHeaded and Lazav Dimir Mastermind are my favorite commanders by far. I love playing those decks. Rakdos Chainer is great as well.

One of my favourite decks in Standard was Killian runes! I even got to have Jagantha as companion JUST BECAUSE! It was an absolute blast!

I recommend giving Aegar, the Freezing Flame a spin... stompy giants and wizards with spell bombs that draw you tons of cards... plus, on ETB you get to press play on J. Giles for his intro music.

Isshin is a lot of fun. Krav and Regna is one of my all time favorite decks (I think Regna should have been called Maga so it would be my Krav Maga deck)
Eriette is my latest build. Great fun. We have that one in common.
Otrimi is great. Not many people go with the mutate theme.
I could go on for a while. But yeah, it is a great format and I think it is awesome that you create some content on commander as well sometimes.
I think my favorite commanders are the partner pair of Trynn, Champion of Freedom and Silvar, Devourer of the Free. It's Human kindred with an aristocrats sub theme that I think you'd really enjoy!

My personal favorite Commander is Thalisse, Reverent Medium. I built her as an aggro deck where I dump out a bunch of tokens and turn them sideways. People rarely anticipate Orzhov aggro.

Minn is on my top ten list as well. Sadly, she's not available on MTGO (along with some other pretty dope commanders like Bennie Bracks).

have a great holiday season too, dev! i dont have a favourite commander, because my deck doesnt run one. its a mono green deck with every creature being legendary and its a quick random shuffle to find todays commander. it needs to be retooled, but its fun and different. although technically, flip nissa should be the commander, so maybe her?... but on another note - "card story time with dev where you tell us those fun stories with the likes of meloku et al sounds like a neat video series"

Btw I have a mardu aristocrat commander, called Extus, Oriq Overlord // Awaken the blood avatar, it is gross.
Gitrog is my personal favorite commander but if you want some quirky to picks to think about I also play a Gimli, Mournful Avenger Gruul aristocrats deck and Acerak dungeon "storm" deck where you play a bunch cards that make him cheaper then try and go through the dungeons as many times as possible.
Honestly I have so many decks that it's hard to call any one of them my favorite.
Teysa Karlov because killing things is so nice when the triggers happen twice.
Nine-Fingers Keene because Baldur's Gate 3 is an incredible game and they added a ton of excellent support for the Gates deck in Battle for Baldur's Gate
Marisi, Breaker of the Coil to play mastermind as I force my opponents to murder each other for my amusement
Marchesa, the Black Rose or Nihiloor when I want to play everyone else's decks
Burakos/Folk Hero for an absurdly powerful Party deck
And my typal commanders like The Scarab God and Tovolar
I even have a Rule 0 Selesnya Enchantress that runs Ajani, Mentor of Heroes as the commander.
Part of what makes the format so fun is that there are a ton of perfectly viable strategies out there if you're willing to build them.

Sliver Queen for life. I’ve had one since 1997?? 98??? And I play that because I like casting her and it never happened back in the day of my 139 card sliver pile. People hate me off the table but idc because I just try and cast her once before I get killed
I had a Sythis deck that I re-worked into Anikthea. You could look at it like Orzhov Enchantress plus green if you want 😂
Dude I run a wort spellslinger deck that throws tokens like it's cool. Love it.
My newest favorite commander is The Master Multiplied, he's so awesome... I like my 14th Doctor and Clara 5 color Doctor tribal deck also...
Nekusar is my favorite commander, but my deck based around Syr Konrad is definitely moving up. It's not a deck designed around Konrad's ability, but instead it is a Black Dragons and Knights deck. Playing a bunch of cards I otherwise wouldn't anywhere else (Hello Catacomb Dragon!), and it just seems to "work", without being overbearing. :)
And as far as creature types that need more love: THRULLS! I am still waiting for some good cards to be able to help my poor Thrull Deck, as well as a more thematic Partner commander than Ravos, either White or Orzhov. Definitely need more Thrull support, and Thrulls in general.
I've been looking for a mardu aristocrats commander and ended up just using Queen Marchesa, which has worked better than I expected.
Fav commanders at the moment are Sefris of the hidden ways, brimaz blight of oreskos and daxos the returned
Green kamahl was fun to build a battle cruise deck with, vial smasher and chosen of kruphix are fun wheel partner commanders
I have the vrondiss rage of ancients PreCon deck. I love it!

Also hell yeah, shout out to Killian! Eriette is essentially just a better commander for the exact deck idea I had when I saw Killian, so I'm glad to see them in the same place here.

I have a soft spot for my Zaxara the Exemplary deck. I'll never get tired of slapping a Freed from the Real on it for an infinite Torment of Hailfire. Yes. I know, I'm getting coal for Christmas. Happy Holidays y'all!
