I think its wrong to call Elon a liar just because something doesnt make sense to you. Elon has done many things that doesnt make sense to our small brains but that hasnt stopped him from doing them. I think he will live up to his words and make a 1 second car
It is right to call him a liar for claiming something that is physically impossible though.
According to the laws of Newtonian physics, the maximum acceleration of a road car with road tires is limited to gravitational acceleration at most. So 0-60 of ~2.7 seconds is the physical upper limit. Unless you are using drag tires on a prepped drag strip, which makes it possible to exceed 1g acceleration.
Stop it. He has a f'n history of lying. Cybertruck being built out of "stainless steel" when they're rusting, Hyperloop, the semi which was supposed to be out, full auto-pilot which was supposed to be out by now but isn't and independent testing shows that Tesla's system won't accurately detect children, the Roadster which was supposed to be out, there was a new EV engine system that was announced years ago and supposed to be out by now which isn't, the Mars mission which was supposed to be done, NeuralLink which was supposed to be done and which also crippled apes and left their brains in tatters in addition to causing so much pain in the animal itself that several of them mutilated themselves like biting off their own fingers.
Stop sucking him off. The guy is one of the biggest charlatans I've ever seen in my life and there's multiple examples of it. Some are unrealistic expectations, others are pumping up his products in complete violation of physics, others are blatant lies.
Newsflash. Elon doesn't gaf about you. He'd step over your body in a second. Stop with the cult of personality around him. It's perfectly justifiable, and required, to call out his lies for what they are just like it should be perfectly justifiable and required to call out his successes for what they are. SpaceX is a success and has innovated space travel and pioneered reusuable rocketry. StarLink is a success. Tesla even though he's done some shady things is a success and the main innovator in the EV space. Even the things that are lies or sketchy like NeuralLink can be a success. But to defend him and act like this "doesn't make sense to us apes" like this guy is on a higher plane of enlightenment is, frankly, fucking stupid.
@@Erowens98 I'm sorry but that is blatantly false and honestly nonsensical, why would a physical law prevent such a thing but somehow make an exception for drag tires? There are plenty of street cars that exceed 1g in acceleration as there are plenty of cars that go from 0 to 62 in less than 2.7, no drag tires and prepped surfaces required, also the roadster is planned to have cold gas thrusters, so rockets, rockets don't care about tire grip.

@@theDarksunsShine Rubber isn't magic. Newtonian physics applies to rubber the same way it applies ti everything else. There is no exception for drag tires in the physics. Drag tires on a drag strip form a vacuum seal witb the road. Similar to how suction cups stick to your wall. Along side that, a drag strip is coated with a special adhesive to make it even more sticky.
In short. Drag tires do not rely on pure friction for their grip the way normal road tires do. Drag tires gain more grip on top of the frictional grip from other sources.
A handful of street cars can slightly exceed 1g due to the effects of downforce. However, at low speeds the effects of downforce are small and thus, there isn't much to gain there. All sub 2.7s street cars where tested on prepped drag strips with specialized tires.
I wouldn't argue btw. I have a degree in Mechanical Engineering. I know what im talking about. I know more than most people about Newtonian mechanics.
And i will reiterate, just because this is so very important. The laws of Newtonian physics absolutely, undebatably, apply to rubber. Rubber isn't magic. You can look it up yourself. No rubber compound in existence has a static friction coefficient above 1.

Elon didn't lie... just multiple his number by 2. "Cybertruck towing a 911 beats a 911 in the quarter-mile" Even though the footage stops as a "win" after the 1/8 mile sensor.
A 0-60 time in a road car simply isn't possible due to tyre constraints. That's why cars have stalled out at around the 2.0 second mark despite some having 2000 horsepower. It's simply not possible.
Maybe if they had DOT road certified drag radial from the factory. Would definitely bring the 0-60 time down at least half a second. Which they are a road legal tire, so who knows.
@@Agent_Stark14, still not going to help much on a non-prepped surface. The Demon 170 does 0-60 in 1.66 seconds with drag radials and a prepped surface. But, it only manages around 2.5 seconds on unprepped asphalt.

Modern ESC is so good that you're typically not gonna gain much acceleration by turning it off. Maybe it's different in this game though.

I saw a leaked video a few years ago of the Tesla roadster “thrust” edition or something like that. Whatever the super fast 1.2 second 0-60 edition is. It literally had a small rocket attached to the car and it went 0-60 in something like 1.6 seconds

World reccord is high .9 seconds. This was also done in a "car" (more of an insane go cart honestly) only designed to do that. It is not street legal and there is only one of them. It uses a fan to suck itself onto the ground an insane amount that is not possible on normal roads. Everybody with even a little bit of car knowledge doesn't believe it lol.

I feel like people should've learned by now that EVERYTHING that Elon says should be taken with like a metric ton of salt. He over promises and under delivers constantly, he just straight up doesn't have a concept of what's possible in a given time frame and budget.

Decrease drag, run the car as low as possible to the ground and maybe, just maybe with the instant torque of an electric motor it would be possible because after all it is only a video game but I will admit the tires most likely won't be able to cope with a sub 1 second 0 to 60

See the thing with Demons is their times are set on drag strips with drag tires and drag tunes, on the road they have 0 grip and just spin their wheels all day long. Any other car manufacturer does these tests with regular road tires on a regular road without changing stuff like the ECU, so in short, Dodge is kinda just cheating

As a mechanical engineer, the short answer is, Yes. He lied. The claims made about the Tesla Roadsters speed are physically impossible on a public road with road legal tires.
The long answer,
This is because the maximum acceleration is limited by the maximum frictional force. Frictional force is a function of vehicle mass, gravity, and the friction coefficient of the tires. Mass however has inertia so it's contribution is cancelled out from the acceleration. Therefore maximum acceleration is limited by gravity times friction coefficient.
Friction coefficient (with road tires on a road) is around 0.95 at best and physically can not exceed 1. So the maximum rate at which a car with road tires on a road can accelerate is 95% of gravitational acceleration.
Doing the rest of the math, you can then determine. The absolute fastest a road car, with road tires, can do 0-60, is around 2.7 second. And that is under perfect conditions. Realistically the upper limit is closer to 3 seconds.
The notable exception would be drag racecars. They have special tires which create a vacuum effect and thus get sucked into the road, and also utilize special glues. Which creates an effective friction coefficient much higher than 1. This however is not possible on a public road with road legal tires.

How accessible is this supposed sub 1 sec 0-60 going to be. I cannot see the new Tesla Roadster being approved for the road without major limitations put in place. Now if it is released as a track only car it would reduce the cool factor considering that the gas powered dodge demon can run 1.6 sec 0-60s with room to build upon.

If they end up actualy strapping a rocket to the Roadster I wouldn't be suprised. Even Mate Rimac claimed the same kind of outcome after seeing the tweet. Because they tryed to make a car go as fast as this in simulations and it was imposible. Unless you actualy put a literal rocket engine on it, you won't get a sub 1 second time out of it. Have you all been living under a rock. If yall took 5 mins to do some proper research, you'd find that there are many cars that have a 0-60 under 2 seconds, such as the rimac nvera, lucis sapphire, demon 170, aspark owl, pininfarina bastista, etc. Yes, tires are the limit. However, tesla overcomes this limit by having the car hover off the ground, using 10 cold gas thrusters, and then propel the car forward with larger cold gas thrusters, pressurized at 200,00 psi. This eliminates the tire friction problem, achieving the sub second 0-60. Just because something is impossible to you doesn't mean Elon lied. Even the CEO of Rimac said that when they ran the simulations, it was possible.
