Undoubtedly. Thundarr wasn't a total tool. But neither Thundarr or Ookla was mental giants. And Ariel knew lore as well, often mentioning historical details. She should have had a back story.
@@michaelbauers8800 She did; all of them did. It was just never brought up.onscreen. Her father (stepfather, actually) was a wizard, the one who initially trained her, and also the one who enslaved both Thundarr and Ookla. @@LadyDeirdre I have a vague recollection from reading in a magazine article that her step father created the sun sword and she gives it to Thundarr, and they there are seven wizards (shades of five wizards in Tolkien…). This vid reminded me of why I loved Ariel as a kid. What a great character! I was too young to remember this much, but she had a cool personality, witty dialogue and a memorable voice actress. Plus, I loved her powers. The cast of Thundarr was terrific.
Ariel the Sorceress! The year: 1994. From out of space comes a runaway planet, hurtling between the Earth and the Moon, unleashing cosmic destruction! Man's civilization is cast in ruin! Two thousand years later, Earth is reborn. A strange new world rises from the old: a world of savagery, super science and sorcery. But one woman bursts her bonds to fight for justice! With her companions Ookla the Mok, and Thundarr the Barbarian, she pits her strength, her courage, and her fabulous Powers of Sorcery against the forces of evil. She is Ariel, the Sorceress!
Maaaaan when I saw the intro as I kid I was so shook that I actually thought this was gonna happen in real life. Hell the way things have been going lately nowadays I wouldnt be too surprised of it did.....lol
I was 7yrs old when this came on back n 1980, Superfriends was my go to action show from 1977-1979, until Thundarr hit the airwaves then i was a diehard fan of this one big time!
4:30 one of the best of all TTB episodes. This cartoon was sooooooo ahead of it's time. As a 10 year old watching this cartoon, it truly was for adult viewing due to thw great sarcasm between Thundarr and Ariel. They played off each other well.
The statue of liberty came to life!! And then her torch flame threw?!! I mean dang, pre ghost busters II. What a frikin comic book this AWESOME show is✊
Nellie Bellflower who voiced Ariel is hard to find on youtube. There was only one interview I found and that's it. It's a shame too because she did allot of voice work.
when i was a kid this cartoon shows in the afternoon and after that transformer as well, i was only 8 to 9 years old that time and that was 1987-1988, i watch this because of ariel i really like her power, she is like scarlet witch and dr.strange. what a beautiful childhood memories.
I remember and own Blackstar on dvd. Thundarr arrived 1st on NBS , then Blackstar came a season later on CBS . in the ultimate battle, Team Thundarr would def Team Blackstar....but it would be a great battle
Also the episode where Yando the magician appeared, Thundarr was rendered helpless due to a direct hit From negative lightning and Ariel truly was the tour de force on that episode. So glad to own this cartoon on DVD
I love everything that deal with sorcery and magick. Thunder is one of my favorite cartoons that I grew up watching among others that I love and keep close to my soul. At which made who I become regarding living my life of magick and supernatural of good( white) and the grey.
Why hasn't this been remade? Not dark and gritty or with politically correct body shapes, but like this - a fun and fast-paced post-apocalyptic adventure with a cool heroine.
The problem with that is, it would be an episodic adventures with no hard lore or canon. We still don't know how Thundarr met Ariel or Ookla, how he escaped from imprisonment, or how he got the sun sword. Thundarr would be toxic as fuck, Ariel wouldn't do much, gets captured and bound in almost every episode Ookla is fine, and all of the villians would be weekly encounters then forgotten about. Only Gemini showed up twice. Updates are a necessary evil. As long as the people behind it care it will be good.
If that last scene had been allowed by 1980s censors to go on, she probably would have resurrected entire dead languages just to cuss him out some more. :D
I was just amped up that back then, they created a character that was kick ass, bad ass, tough ass black woman. If they did this back in the 80s why did it take Disney so long to add multicultural princesses to their line up. No matter I'm just glad they BOTH got it.
@@godmaentertainment4375 well...i don't think so but....it seems as if she is portrayed as a woman of darker color. Perhaps she is of East Indian descent. 😊
Still obsessed with this show and I’m 52 years old!
Yep.
62 here, and have loved it since it premiered back in 1980.
Same , bought it on dvd … the complete series on Amazon
Eu também tenho 52 e sempre revejo no UA-cam.
I have to say that she was one of the reasons that I love watching Thundarr.
THIS CARTOON WAS A SATURDAY MORNING CLASSIC. A MUST WATCH
Yep a helluva lot more exciting than some goddamn'D pokeman'/!!!
dude.. real shit... I'd rather watch any thundarr the barbarian episodes over any reality show..... what a shame
I never noticed how nice the animation really was.
They took their time with Ariel lol.
It's coming back to me now. Ariel really was the brains of that particular operation wasn't she.

Apparently, this show came before little mermaid! So I guess this is the original princess Ariel!
This was one of the very best cartoons ever !!
Thundarr whistles and Ariel jumps to her horse.
dammit. after learning they share the same voice actor, I can't unhear Fred Flintstone when Gemini is talking.
I can’t unhear the Molecule Man from Hanna-Barbera’s 1960s “The Fantastic Four” series.
Henry Corden.

I got you covered. Part 2 is up..ua-cam.com/video/7ZcgM2C8twE/v-deo.html More parts coming.
Had Thundarr and Princess Arial had a child, it would have been a very powerful force for good with their combined powers.
No ookla?
Thundarr wasn't interested in her.
She was like the pesky kid sister to him and barbarians hate sorcery.

Ariel was fantastic. She didn't have the raw power of wizards like Gemini, but her magic was so amazingly diverse, it more than made up for it.
Called plot armor. This show sucked
The show should have been called, Princess Ariel the Sorceress!

gal gadot as ariel, dave bautista as ookla, and chris hemsworth as thundarr.
