Sorry I have not uploaded for a while :( We have been in hospital with our 7 year old son, He has unfortunately been diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. He has been super brave and he's our little hero..
This is a condition he will have for life and needs several insulin injections daily, he's such a brave boy and we are super proud of him... I filmed this video before he got admitted to hospital so didn't get chance to edit it until now...
Anyway..
Here is my full review of the yaesu FTM-400XDR, Amazing radio!

I have six FTM-400s and love them. I dod purchase the FTM-500 and sold it because it was big and bulky
Thanks for the video. I will probably purchase this radio as it looks like it will make a great digital base station that could go mobile if needed. All my equipment is analog at this point in time so the Yaesu will be my very first digital rig in my HAM shack!

Teach your son as well as you can along away so he can recognize the different things his body it houng to be telling him. Bless his little heart. Luckily it's not the end of the world and he can live q long healthy life as long as he takes care of himself.

Great video Matt looks a really nice radio I bought the FT100dr a few months ago and still leaning how to work it but love the radio, sorry to hear your boy has type 1 I was diagnosed with type 2 about two years ago the first few month on the Metformin was a pain but ok now, all the best to him, atb John.

I use Sennheiser CX350BT it’s connects to 2 Bluetooth devices at the same time I am using the IPhone 12 Mini & Yaesu ft3d ). I can listen to music on my iPhone and monitor for phone calls and the Yaesu ft3d will audio interrupt when RX.
Turn Siri off on iphone then the ( Siri button ) on CX350BT to transmit on Yaesu then ( Play / Pause button ) on CX350BT stop transmission on Yaesu.
Sounds pretty good too !

I have one of these. It's pretty cool. I bought it for the digital and APRS. I haven't used the digital yet, because no one has a radio like this around me. No repeaters in my state either. But I use the APRS all the time, I pretty much only use the bottom band for that. It has so many features that I have yet to try, like using the APRS to drop waypoints, and using the compass screen to track your way back along the trail. My vehicle is not really suited for the offroad, though it does have 4WD. This is a popular radio with all 3 groups that are really into radio: hobbyists, preppers, and offroaders. Seems like a win to me. Though I wish it did SSB.
Yeah get used to the lack of C4FM use and repeaters. I have had my 100D for five years and have heard ONE other owner and that was on simplex which we coordinated. Nobody is putting up Fusion repeaters it seems and those few that are listed within 100 miles of me either have C4FM disabled or they are not actually Fusion repeaters. It seems the battle for the digital future between D-Star, Fusion, DMR, etc has potential new repeater owners holding off for good. If the top 3 or 4 brands would agree to a digital standard it would change radio in a quantum way...but sadly that isn't going to happen.
@@PlanktoniusRex I mainly bought it so that in the case of an emergency I would have obscured communications to those important to me. The digital that is. I have 2 C4FM radios. But I just use the analog for normal ham use.

The power levels can be changed in a similar (but different) way to the FTM100

For access point freq HRI 200 mode do I pick any freq on radio and software to connect. As GW ? And how about the offset do I need offset or go with simplex freq I see people doing both. Thanks for the video and God bless your son 73

I see this video is 4 years old. As a time reference, I am writing this on April 24th 2024. I have a couple of questions if I may. VHF is pretty new to me. First, is this model easy to program. I understand that is a relative question, but can I just push buttons to program it or do I need software and a computer? I am not very good with computers and figuring out new software. I have read some reviews stating that the display washes out and its hard to see in the sunlight (mobile use) have you found that to be true? And lastly, you mentioned something about a beacon. How is a beacon used? Why would I want to use it?? What is it for? Thanks in advance. 73. Dave
Will this radio do Wires X on its own without another radio? I heard this radio connects to home WIFI and uses it to get to Wires X.
Yes you can connect it to your PC with wires x software and then it becomes a voip radio 👌
