"Trap" music in Atlanta begins with TA (Top Authority). This was the early 90's. But this wasn't the wave bc Atlanta's music scene was so heavily influenced and dominated by Miami base "Booty Shaking" music. Think Kilo Ali, Raheem the Dream, Hitman Sammy Sam to name a few. Then Ghetto Mafia dropped in the late 90's but it still wasn't the wave bc Outkast and Goodie M.O.B was the sound. Then enters Tip in 01' with "Dope boys in the trap" and this is the beginning of the wave that EVERYONE is riding right now. Tip didn't invent trap rap so much as he brought national attention to that particular vibe. And yes, longway was correct when he said Tip was the Beyonce of trap rap. That's not a dis. Gucci Mane to me represents the hard, grimey, grinding, hand to hand combat aspect of the "trap". Jeezy represents the organized weight level wholesaler. Tip represents the success story. Just my thoughts. Peace.
