  • After playing with the Notch for a few weeks without getting it on the trail (just been way too hot for backpacking) I broke down and set it up at home for a stormy weather test.

Thanks for the review! Your ridgeline is a great idea; however, you might want to make it a little looser. We like to avoid having the interior touch the underside of the fly, just in case any condensation tries to get through!

    No Prob!
I did a lot of researching on the Notch prior to purchase...and I couldn't be happier. I too love watching Backpacking Vids on YT and have found them very helpful and informative. Enjoy your Notch and keep watching for more sweet Notch action!

I do a similar deal with my double rainbow to help hold the netting farther away from me, except I use some shock cord to help alleviate some of the stress on the zipper. That's a good idea with the reflectix! I usually carry a piece with me, I've never thought about putting it under my pad though. I got a golite quilt this spring, and when I sleep on my stomach my hands usually lay on the tent floor and get cold, so I'll have to give that a try.

I got spoiled on the openness using hammocks these last few years. Been looking for a bugproof alternative for ground sleeping. This looks like the deal.. Thanks for the review.

i've been seriously looking at this tent. do you still like it? is there much room for extra clothes ect.. for winter camping? have you taken it out in the winter?

juskojj Hey juskojj, yes, I really like the Notch the more I use it! It would not be my first choice for an extended cold weather trip as other more "winter oriented" shelters would likely be a bit better. The Notch is more a light & fast tent...not too much a winter bunker. I've taken it out in plenty cold temps, but she's never seen significant winter snow. The size would be on the smaller side, so it could feel cramped with extra winter gear...but would be pretty easy to heat (as I do occasionally w a candle lantern) when the temps drop. Still love the Notch...very versatile for 3 season use. Hope that helps & thanks for watching!

For someone who is 6'4", would it be long enough?

FreerunTMac I honestly think it would be a bit too small. Once you get a pad/mattress and a sleeping bag it there you would be pretty cramped I imagine.
