I cannot underestimate how amazing Josef Fares is: he basically created his own niche with those coop type of narrative games, always showing off with cocky statements, but in the end he simply delivers.👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
I don't know if the movies he made, before getting into games, are available with english/non-swedish subtitles... But they are very corny funny movies, he's a great guy that has come a long way.
Gameplay is so good, my partner and I love it!
The last game wasnt fun to play.

My fiance and I were due to get married on the 26th March but delayed it due to Covid.... we're getting a Domino's and playing this instead!
Just do that again when the quarantine ends. Weddings are an incredible waste of money

She must not men much if it's dominos. I highly reccomend Marcos if you got it. And I agree with Wdf. Weddings are a useless money sink. Just have a small court house gathering and get a hotel room. Good luck.

Hot damn, that level design is top notch. It seems like developers actually had tons of fun while developing this game. Looks fun asf.
This looks like a legit new pixar movie lol. An ad ran on youtube before I even knew what this game was and I seriously thought it was a trailer for a new pixar movie until it started mentioning about gameplay and showed some gameplay at the end of the ad.
Can’t wait. Played Brothers recently and loved every minute of it. It’s clear Josef Fares has a idea for cinematic storytelling.
A Way Out is definitely well worth your time as well. Loved it

Brilliant absolutely god damned brilliant. Split screen is the way to go for me. Haven't tried it online alone to see if you can do fullscreen.

we loved how interactable the world was as well. there were so many fun mini games and just things to do that made exploring the levels such a joy

I'm so so happy that you loved this. I was excited when I saw the reveal trailers and I've got a lot of faith in Hazelight and loved playing A Way Out with my partner, so to know it's not a disappointment is great.
Josef Fares has done it again , another great game from him and the team.
It's awesome, Astrobot and Sackboy level awesome.
It's crazy how much Hazelight has grown as a developer in just 3 years. A Way Out was the kind of game I give a "A for effort", a creative experience worth playing. This is just straight up great.

Great review! Although I understand your small complaint about May usually being the “reactive” character being repetitive, I LOVED that. I swear they made this game in mind for couples and parents/kids. My wife is not a good gamer, but she likes to play fun games with me. May’s character seems intentionally more simplistic to control, and made the game a lot more accessible for her. Love this game so much, I hope we see more like it in the future

WOW. I hadn’t even heard of this. My wife and used to play many games together, even if they weren’t co-op - mystery/puzzle type and work through it as a team. For YEARS now we’ve been looking for a decent, actual, co-op game in the never ending sea of solo or multiplayer. This looks FN fantastic… ordering it tonight and will be hitting it up this weekend. Think I'm going to pick this up this weekend even though it will most likely be in EA Play/Gamepass in a few months.
Digging the creativity in this game.
When you were speaking about sound, it made me think of two things about this game that seriously impressed me:
1. When character dialog is going on during a level, if you change your scenery (for example i walked into one of the vacuum tubes) it seamlessly changed the audio to have a sound like he was talking into a vacuum tube.
2. When the male character gets the ability to shrink or grow and his voice pitch changes, you can change it in the middle of dialog and the voice pitch will change seamlessly too even mid word.
Just incredible stuff.
Great review as always. Darn, I with this one was cross platform co-op. Looks like I will have to buy it for PC and PS4 to maximize my playable friend group.

@@TheREALHugo4 kinda would be interested in hearing your thoughts about why it didnt do it for you. The game has lots of flaws but playing it co op with my gf has been a real blast. Just in case you gave up on it I'll let you know that the level and visual design gets much better after the 3rd chapter.

The doll character designs are great
The other stuff you can interact with aren’t actually puzzles - it’s just fun stuff to interact with.
Take goofy photos, ride a train or plane, swing on a swing.
It’s just enjoying the little moments
We need more of these on Playstation. Coop games are severely lacking unless it's the let's just shoot everything that moves type

He says it's not a game that treads heavily on the divorce but... It absolutely does. the scene where she cries on the dolls is done so seriously... It's such a bizarre tone change to go from the divorce and fighting parents, to a bouncy goofy plot of the dolls.

@@ACGreviews I don't assume you're talking just about those two seconds, I'm referring to that moment because it's part of when you mention the divorce story in this video. My point is it's an example of a deeply serious scene that weirdly changes tone into goofiness. It's a really awkward tonal shift that happens over and over in the game.
@@Gordy3000 itd be really odd to make a game about divorce and not emphasize how it effects the children involved. As a kid I constantly worried about my parents getting a divorce, in my eyes it was the worst thing that could happen to me and had it actually happened I would have been absolutely gutted and handled it worst than little rose. The tonal shift of the game feels absolutely necessary.... it's literally a honey I shrunk the kids type adventure that doesnt forget exactly what set them on the journey.... could you imagine if honey I shrunk the kids had a purely dark tone?? It has moments where things get dreary as the kids begin to worry about whether they'll ever return to their lives again, but that next mor ing they're riding an ant accross the backyard!! Hey maybe the tonal shift feels so wrong for u that it ruins your ability to enjoy the game, but this adventure is truly something special and I really hope you're able to enjoy the game the way I am.

When I'm allowed to mix again i'm getting some friends over and whacking this on.
My wife and I bought this game for our anniversary since everyone in Malaysia is still under lockdown. We had a great time. My wife solved the puzzles and I did most of the difficult jumping. A masterpiece and must play for couples.
Me and my boyfriend are I think about 60-75% done, we're about to get the second letter piece. We lost some frame rate right at the end of the Moon Baboon boss fight, other than that it has ran super smoothly crossplayed from his PS4 to my PS5. Thoroughly enjoying the game so far. I wish it was a little more mature in its humour. The sacrifice of Cutie was surprisingly morbid and I wish there was a bit more adult humour like that, but solid 9/10 for me so far and i'm not even done yet! Josef Fares has done it again :)
i just had a questions i was playing it takes two last night with someone online.i dont no the person in real life or online just started a party but we didn't talk other he said i have to go.i think i was on his game but we both own game.does it save the game levels we have played for both of us and how do i go to were we left off say he is away and i want to play?love the review.
Not sure if it’s been publicised much elsewhere but didn’t see much about this before getting it, it’s the sleeper hit of the year. My wife and I are loving it so far.
Interesting concept but if I tried to play this with my wife it would lead to real life divorce. Lego games were enough to test us.

I've been playing this game for hours, and it's been a freaking blast the entire time! I honestly keep saying it's fun the whole time and my friend kept agreeing while also calling it an acid trip. Lol! Some of the puzzles are really fun, some a bit more of a thinking one, a few harder than needed to be but all in all, hands down one of THE most fun, smoothest, no crashes at all, entertaining games in the last... I want to say 5 years! I didn't even know a gaming company could even produce a game that didn't need a patch or update to fix a bug or crash right out of the gate! I must say that I was both extremely pleased at no problems to ruin the experience and highly impressed! To have a smooth frame rate,no sound issues, glitch-free game is an extremely daunting task! Just ask ANY gaming company from EA to Bethesda, and more. This game, even unbeaten so far by me, gets a 5 out of 5 for quality, controls, design, FUN, and definitely creativity. Lots of little Easter eggs in the game and nods to anyone's childhood games of all ages. I'm definitely recommending this.
I'm so proud of how Josef Fares is growing and that people loves his games. As a Swede that knows him from his incredible movies, it's cool that he transitioned and is exploring this medium with such success and increasing ambition.
I got really annoyed with both the previous games, but that was all me. My annoyance with the stupid chicken interactions and how it felt like a waste of the developers time, the mundane tasks disguised as gameplay etc... I just couldn't look past it. It felt so much like a movie director squeezing in some "game" in his new "movie".
But to hear that this has such good and enjoyable gameplay warms my heart :P I'll definitely play it one day!
