Since nct dream debuted at a really young age, they had more of a young and cheerful concept. The truth is that this is not my taste of music either, but i have to admit that they're extremely talented. Anyway loved the reaction, and im waiting for you to react to wayv (nct's chinese sub-unit) I think you will really like their music ,vibe, and concept.
They do write their own raps... like not in every song but jeno jaemin and jisung do write the lyrics for their raps and well, everyone knows about mark anyway
i totally agree that if you don't write your own lyrics, you're not a rapper. but in nct dream, all the rappers co-write most of the songs on their music albums. mark, jeno, jaemin and jisung have credits on a large number of songs on b-side tracks.
the vocalists of the band are also very popular, i would like chenle to be interested. because he has as unique vocals as the same haechan. he has had concerts and albums since he was a kid, and he has had the least amount of training time?? due to past experience😹
chenle's vocals are still technically much weaker than haechan's; maybe he should've had a longer trainee period?

The thing about kpop, this self-producing idols is fairly a new thing. Even during 3rd gen, idols had to fight for rheir rights to be able to have their own written songs to be included in their discography. It's even harder for the older gens to do that. If half of these kpop idols don't write their songs, it's not like they actually aren't capable. I mean I get that these idols' capability and creativity maybe not as strong as professional producers, lyricist or sound engineers.

one of the representative element of nct dream is growth and youth. their song is following their age, there was pop bubblegumy in their early era. and when they went to teenager phase there were songs like Go and We Go Up. From their latest album, their songs are more mature and dark. I think you'll like it.

Nct Dream has a "softer" and youthful concept since they debuted so young. Jisung was 14 in 2016, so most of their songs up to Boom/We Go Up/Ride are a lot on the cute concept side. When you get that, it's easier to like. It IS my cuppa tea, but I've also been with them for the whole way lol

But let me tel you.. you are definitely going to like their song when you directly watch their MV.. many of this dingo live songs are their b side. When they first debuted, SM received a lot of criticism because it looked like they were exploiting children. But now agencies are flocking to debut teenagers with adult concepts. I think SM was really brave in taking action at the beginning which eventually made other agencies follow suit. Previously there was Taemin Shinee who debuted in 2008 at the age of 14 (at that time debuting at this age was not considered normal).
Yes if you look at its history SM has always been at the forefront of new things which were eventually overtaken by other agencies such as :
- the debut-Trainee system
- photocards which were started by TVXQ for their Japanese albums around 2004
- bluetooth lightstick (started by Bigbang by YG, but the bluetooth system started by EXO),
- song theory and group concepts also started with SM (even continuity with each other from the first generation)

- the addition of AI animation in MVs by S.E.S around 1998

- the first UNIT concept started from Super Junior

Well Nct is a Brand and has 4 different group under it which is NCT 127, NCT DREAM, WAYV (Chinese base) NCT WISH (Japanese base) and there are 26 final members. And together they are NCT U (united)
They are different group with different members with different concepts. But Mark and Haechan is in both Nct 127 and Nct Dream. (Thats why they are fuckng busy)
And all of the units gather together once a year or alternate year and make an Album together as Nct U.

A good singer in my eyes is different from a good vocalist.

there was quite a few bits of misinformation in your twitch comments, i'm just gonna address the couple of things that bothered me most.
debut ages were: 14, 14, 16, 16, 16 16, 17. someone said they topped at 16 but mark [as far as dream goes] started at 17. he was 16 for 127. there's two 14s because chenle's birthday hadn't passed yet.
they have all seven of them written lyrics several times over, it's just the company doesn't always let the lyrics go through. mark has the highest approval rating [in dream], and haechan has the lowest approval [in dream] but they hall been credited at least a couple of times on their own songs---the biggest nod to this being Rainbow.
Boom by NCT Dream is still my fav song. I want to see you react to Boom and We go up.

i personally don't agree, there are "rappers" in kpop and even in the korean hip hop scene that write their own verses but are awful lyrics, i agree that lyrics are really important for rap verses but is not the only thing, flow? cadence? tone?
the best example is YG female rappers, they are not involved in the lyrics (because Yg doesn't let them) but they are among the best in their respective generation.
1. Idol rappers
the members of the group that have the rapper position because "all groups need rappers" but are bad rappers, ex: the majority of SM rappers, and a lot of female rappers.
2. Rappers
good rappers that may or may not be involved in the lyrics, ex: Taeyong, Mark, YangYang, Chanyeol, Moonbyul, Asa, etc.
3. Real rappers
rappers that were part of the underground scene and are top tier rappers, ex: Zico aka the best rapper in kpop, Suga, RM, Joohoney, I.M, Mino, Yezi, Elly, Soyeon, etc.
rappers like Han, Changbin and Bobby among others are also in this category because despite they were never part of the underground scene they are among the best rappers in kpop so they deserve it.

I think there are artists that are extremely talented when it comes to rapping but I still wouldn’t regard them as rappers, you know? Like they CAN rap really well but they aren’t rappers.
It’s like if someone is a really good cook, like professional level, maybe even better then actual chefs, that doesn’t make them a chef.
