I was disappointed watching any of his other movies after watching "The Jerk" which was always the kind of humor i was expecting on his other movies ...no match at all ..."The Jerk" was the greatest of all of his movies by far.
This movie is still one of the funniest movies of all time. The part that makes me laugh the loudest is actually when Carl Reiner says that his crossed eyes caused him to yell cut too late on a shot. Then they show the car go off the cliff & he yells "Cut!" while it's in the air.
I love this movie. It is never shown on regular TV anymore though. I still use the "no more of the this old wine, from now on bring me the fresh wine" line on occassion.
I remember Steve Martin being interviewed in the height of his success, the interviewer asked what's next " failure I guess " 🤣🤣 He just couldn't help but be funny . Thanks for a many gut tiring laughs 🤗🤗
The Jerk was one of those movies that I started laughing at the opening line, and didn't stop until it was well over. I had to watch it several times to catch things I missed while laughing the previous times. There's probably still more that I missed, but I'm willing to watch it again just to be sure.
Jackie Mason, Bernadette Peters. RIP. Fantastic American Classic Comedy. Unlike the other top comedians of his time period, Steve Martin is still sane, still alive and still performing! (as a musician) I love this movie.
@@willymaykit1482 Go ahead and list them. I'm not saying was ever funnier, just wanted to find out who you thought was funny. I no longer find Steve Martin to be funny, but when he was in his prime I found him to be *very* funny. Same with Chevy Chase and Eddie Murphy, back in the day they were kings - now they do nothing for me. But you said "career" of not being funny. Of course you're entitled to your opinion just like I am.
My other Steve M movie favorite quote, “if you like to play fetch, don’t get a fast dog. All they want to do is show off and they don’t care about your stick.”
Two things I remember when I think about The Jerk: the scene where he said that he didn't need anything, and the scene where he said, "I was born a poor black child."
I had an amicable divorce many years ago and i quoted this movie when i was packing...about taking the lamp. He hadnt seen the movie so he didnt think it was as funny as i did.
I always thought his relationship with his black family was wonderful! But sure some jerks would be offended today! People with no sense of humor are trying to ruin the world!
And the final funny scene is the original ending when the camera pans to show the mansion bought with the money, invested by his family, that Navin had sent home all those years...
My son and I love this movie. He had to carry the dog while he was hitch hiking so the dog wouldn't run leave him. The dog was unwilling to be his pet. Even he knew homie was a jerk. Car Reiner was the jam. RIP
Nathan, Nathan, take it easy. It's in here. (unlocks door, walks in) (Nathan glances back at grungy smelly toliet area) Ohh....I couldn't afford this anyway! 🤣🤣
Finds his name in the phone book..."I'm somebodyyyy!!!" When our company was recognized in a publication and the V.P. pointed it out to everyone, I said, "We're somebodyyyy!!!. He was the only one in the company who got it.
I dont need anything ,except for this video thats it i only need this video and youtube and thats all i need . youtube this video and the internet ya that's all , i don't need things .... maybe this chair too but thats it ....this chair and my video the internet and youtube but thats it......
I don't as hoping they would have the clip where Steve runs the "guess your age" booth at the carnival and someone asks him what they win. He says "anything between here and here" and it gets smaller and smaller until it's down to some plastic toy.
The part with him going 'I don't need anything, well except this' is me browsing Amazon.
Yes😂😂😂😂❤❤❤❤❤
“He hates these cans”! 😂😂😂
I l es that seen.
I saw this comment right after that part. That was hilarious
This is still my favorite Steve Martin movie.😂
He had quite a few great movies, but this was the first and my favorite! “These cans are defective”!!
No doubt !
His best movie . Had many good ones . This is the best. Probably due a lot to Carl Reiner
I was disappointed watching any of his other movies after watching "The Jerk" which was always the kind of humor i was expecting on his other movies ...no match at all ..."The Jerk" was the greatest of all of his movies by far.
@@willyjoerockhead Yeah, he followed the “Tropic Thunder” advice: “Don’t go full reXxrd”! The Jerk was the closest he went that way!!
Hmm, Funniest moments from the Jerk --- Anything under 1 hour, 39 minutes is unsatisfactory, lol
This movies is golden lol. It still cracks me up. I quote it, but my kids didn’t get it lol.
Facts😂
Best comment!
I never thought this was funny i liked it though 😅 st louis
Comedic genius 👏
Best Line, "You mean I'm Going to Stay this color!?" lmao.
The Jerk & Blazing Saddles are 2 of mine all time favorites and I think most will agree 😂😂😂
Don’t forget the immortal Stir Crazy and Silver Streak!
Or Kentucky Fried Movie and AirPlane!
Both of these would be in my top 20!!
Agreed OP, The Jerk and Blazing Saddles still stand up Strong approx 50 years later. Definitely in the top 5 Best Conedies of all time.
Haggle Trom was brilliant. Martin at his best. Up there with Airplane!, Planes, Trains and Automobiles and Shout the Frog.
Steve Martin and Robin Williams were my favorite actors back then.

What was he gonna do? Yell “CUT” right before it went off the cliff, and the car magically stop? 😂😂😂😂
I love this movie. It is never shown on regular TV anymore though. I still use the "no more of the this old wine, from now on bring me the fresh wine" line on occassion.
I love how he dismisses the waiter and tells Marie, "he doesn't realize he's dealing with sophisticated people here"
“I have it written down, and I can show you tomorrow. Anyway…” that scene kills me
I remember Steve Martin being interviewed in the height of his success, the interviewer asked what's next " failure I guess " 🤣🤣
He just couldn't help but be funny . Thanks for a many gut tiring laughs 🤗🤗
i loved this movie when i was a kid
"Stay away from the cans"!
This is absolutely hilarious 🤣
Best comedy ever.
The only Steve Martin film I ever liked. A comedy classic.
All Of Me was another funny Steve Martin movie.
Dirty rotten scoundrels was even funnier...
Planes trains and automobiles?
Really , planes trains and automobiles didnt get a like from ya ,,,
The best part was when he got the phone book in the mail and looked his name up. Johnson Navin R.!! I'm somebody!! 😆
When my husband's business was first put in the phone book he quoted from this movie. "The new phone book is here, I'm somebody now."
This is the kind of spontaneous publicity that can make somebody !
I love how he sees his name in the phone book as “spontaneous publicity “
@darloonie9465 Every time we'd get the new phone book, I'd say that and, "Things are gonna start happening now!"
I know we’ve only know each other 4 weeks and 3 days but to me it feels like 9 weeks 5days 😂 I can’t! Her all asleep 😂

“That’s my SPECIAL PURPOSE!!!” BWAAAA HAHAHA
He just gets corny with his jokes after a while and i dont know what he means: thats the joke
😅😅😅😅😅😂😂😂
"I was born a poor black child "
That's my favorite line.
Michael Jackson?

"YOU MEAN I'M GOING TO STAY THIS COLOR?"
Just like Joe biden
The guys at the edge of the church acting like they can’t bail. 🤣😂🤣
They cut....You mean I'm gonna STAY this color? LOLOLOL
Why has Steve Martin been fifty years old for forty years
He was old when he was young, now he's young as an old man -he just stays the same age
One of my absolute favorites
We still reference "Cup-o-Pizza" to this day.
Put the old cup of pizza right out of business.
People come for miles around...
" These cans are defective " 😂😂😂
I still use Iron Balls McGinty from time to time today to describe someone with a lot of courage.
😂😂😂
Made my mother a Steve Martin fan. She heard him say “I was born a poor black child” (we’re black) and she said I have to see this.
" you mean I'm always going to be this colour???" 😂
You left out "You mean I'm gonna stay this colour"?
I'm not a bum. I'm a Jerk!! This was so hilarious.
Forget The Godfather, this is my all-time quotable movie.
Jackie Mason, Bernadette Peters. RIP. Fantastic American Classic Comedy. Unlike the other top comedians of his time period, Steve Martin is still sane, still alive and still performing! (as a musician) I love this movie.
Bernadette Peters isn't dead.
Bernadette Peters was so hot back then
The Greatest Comedy in the History of Cinema.
one of the funniest movies of all-time 😂🤣
A movie that made you feel like anybody can succeed in life😅
Only if you're somebody. Lol
Exactly. It's amazing how Steve martin made a comedy career without being funny.
@@willymaykit1482 Who is funnier?
@@timmyinthewell1 Should I start listing comedians ? I think not.

I saw this in palm springs when it came out. The plaza theater, with 2 friends on mushrooms. We laughed so hard that the two girls moved, good times!
Forrest Gump,before Forrest Gump.
So you and your male friend were tripping, and the girls moved away?
My other Steve M movie favorite quote, “if you like to play fetch, don’t get a fast dog. All they want to do is show off and they don’t care about your stick.”
Still funny after all these years lol love it!
I haven’t laughed like this for months ❤
2:57 and this was the inspiration for ace ventura 😂.
Steve was born for that part
No, he was born a poor black child.
loved this movie, idk why but "pizza in a cup" always had a nice ring, and navin's carnival girlfriend patty.
The part about how many days it’s felt is so true
I love ❤ B/PETERS
A classic steve martin film one of my faves 😅 so good
I learnt about my "Special Purpose" while watching this movie. Shine-ola!!

I couldn’t afford this anyway 😂
“Let’s seal it with a kiss!”😂😂😂😂
"I'm in the phone-book"!
Johnson! Navin R! I'm somebody now!
Anyone trying to make this movie in 2023 would be cancelled so fast it would make their head spin. 😵💫
I always thought his relationship with his black family was wonderful! But sure some jerks would be offended today! People with no sense of humor are trying to ruin the world!
They Fail
God has a wicked sense of humour 😌😏😉🇮🇪👑☝🏻😎
I was hoping to see the "Pizza-in-a-Cup" bit.
Pulling a small church!! Good lord thats good!
As a 12 year old I laughed almost from start to finish when my dad took my big sister and I to see this movie.
The guy driving the pickup truck with Steve Martin is hitchhiking . That's Rob Reiner. Meathead from All in the Family
And the final funny scene is the original ending when the camera pans to show the mansion bought with the money, invested by his family, that Navin had sent home all those years...
One of funniest ever 😂😂
My wife and I still regularly quote, "That's all I need, I don't need ANYTHING ELSE!.........Except this..." Such a great movie!
LOL TY STEVE ... 😀
Where was the “I am somebody!!” His name is in the phone book
Great movie! 🎬🎥
He is hilarious 😂😂😂
I enjoyed the part where he said “it’s Jerkin Time” and then he jerked everyone at the pool
My favorite part s as well
One of Steve Martins better films. Just a pity this video upload wasn’t in order as in the film, but it’s still funny
This and dumb and dumber..simply the best..better than all the rest.
the new phone books are here!!!! the new phone books are here!!!!
I would've killed to be casting for this
I saw this movie when I was like 5 maybe, and only a few scenes stuck with me, and I’m pretty sure you left one of them out. You kNow what I mean.
My son and I love this movie. He had to carry the dog while he was hitch hiking so the dog wouldn't run leave him. The dog was unwilling to be his pet. Even he knew homie was a jerk. Car Reiner was the jam. RIP
This brings back some old memories I was just a young little lad when I went to the theatres to see this good times
Comedies back then had charm and humour in them. Today, most comedies are just shocking or dull rubbish.
...or 100% social engineering.
Nathan, Nathan, take it easy. It's in here. (unlocks door, walks in)

Too funny
I "make" my adult sons watch this with me on my birthdays!!!
They will never make a movie like this again
He hates these cans! Stay away from the cans!
Aha! It's a profit deal.
"Step right up, and win some crap!"
I was born a poor black child! 😂😂😂
Where Steve Martin at?? I just remember him on ghostbusters

To see the best of the jerk you would have to watch the entire movie.
He hates these cans hilarious.
“Say, where’s your garbage can? Oh that’s where you keep it “?
Funniest moments?… sooo pretty much the whole movie 😂
7:04 Lying there with the girl.. Theo Vaughn
Steve Martin was 34 in the film when he portrayed Navin Johnson. From Joe. X
Kids, the "up" button you see at the end, at the bottom, was for upgrading to Laserdisc.....
They don't make em like they used to!
Imagine the meltdowns if they made this now.
he''s hilarious. why is he already greyed out at 34 ?
C the bathroom key on the car rim
