Buying Smoker Cherry Wood - Is it worth it

- Took a little road trip to Western Wisconsin, and bought a trailer load of Cherry wood. The plan is to process this into two different sizes. The first size is going to be standard 16 inch pieces, while the second is going to be 12 inch pieces. Now the larger pieces are probably going to range between 14 inches to 16 inches in length. The smaller pieces are going to range from 10 inches to 12 inches. That was the advice that I got from the gentleman that owns the Firewood and land management company that I purchased the wood from. This load of cherry is slightly over one cord. I reckon the plan will be to split 50-50 with the various sizes.
I already may have a buyer for about 2/3 of this wood, but I need to do a little math and figure out if it’s a good deal for me or not. I believe I can charge more for smoking wood than I can for regular mixed hardwood. In my case, the mixed hardwood is mostly ash mixed with maple.
Stay tuned for part two, where we unload the dump trailer and get it all stacked up into two piles, big stuff and little stuff.
Have a great day Around the Yard!

Hello Brent, Great plan, value added firewood always rules👍🇺🇸
You got that right! Hoping it holds true
Can’t ever have enough cherry!👍🍒
We just don’t have it here in the twin cities. I have a little bit in my forest, but it isn’t standing dead yet.
hi there sounds like a good plan to me . best to all john
Thanks for stopping by John! Have a great weekend
Looks like a great score.
It is the first wood I have paid for in a really long time.
Great opportunity Brent. To expand out to another market. What’s the other market you said you had. I have a couple different lines of firewood products that I sale. So far have done well some better than others. Have a great week ahead sir.
I have bundle wood and some cord wood, though I mostly sell “bulk” in Facecord or less quantities. I find that is where the margin is best for me.
Looks a lot like the stuff I got a year ago.
That’s been sitting now on two years now
Time to sell it. Dry firewood is money in the bank this time of year.
I’d get as much of that cherry and hickory as you can get
What I really need to find is a logger, or someone with a semi, or get my CDL and a big truck that can haul a few cord at a time.

Taller side boards should let you almost double the loads you bring back.
