She was 10 years younger than my grandfather, and yet after he died at age 85, she died within the year as well despite being much younger. They'd been together their whole lives.

I agree with the judge too. Prison is for “reforming” criminals, and teaching them the errors in their ways…. He didn’t need to be “Reformed”. It was simply a terrible accident, that he will punish himself with for the rest of his life. I’ve also heard of “Broken heart syndrome”, and knew it could kill (There are many documented cases of spouses dying within hours, or days of each other), but I had no clue it had actually been medically diagnosed. @@kittymamayyz I hope you both realize it’s not that easy for a lot of people. No shit there are people out there. That’s partially the problem. Most people most of us encounter are good for nothing. That’s why most true introverts would rather say nothing to anybody. If it were that easy these comments wouldn’t be necessary; if those “people that are out there” make the problem go away then obviously there’d be no need to even say that the person is a loner. You don’t know what is causing people to not even want to talk to anybody so maybe stop making it sound like the solution is so easy and simple to discover. This spans across many people and it is a very nuanced subject so either do more research or just shut the hell up. I know that’s rude but seriously. I don’t speak on things I have no perspective of. Maybe you should do the same 😶

With so many variables, it seems like miracles can happen, & maybe someday we’ll have the medical science to figure out exactly how & why everything works the way it does. When I was younger an elderly couple who were neighbours of mine died within weeks of each other. Last year my Auntie and Uncle died within three months of each other. Both of these couples had been together for around fifty years and I have always believed that the surviving spouse died of a broken heart. This has confirmed it for me, so incredibly sad but almost beautiful at the same time.

Broken heart syndrome can honestly be one of the saddest things. My mom was recovering from vascular surgery and an elderly woman down the hall quite literally could not stop wailing. They would sedate her and it would only quiet the crying a bit. She was alone. The only comfort she had was from staff and it was utterly exhausting them- but it was similar methodology: WE are here for you. WE aren’t going anywhere, WE will take care of you, etc etc. I don’t know what the final outcome was, but the effort of the staff was utterly commendable. One of the nurses explained it happens way more often than you think, and all we can do is intervention therapy to try to ease them. To this day one of the saddest conditions I’ve ever heard.

My great grandfather passed away from cancer at 98 years old.. My great grandmother despite being 96 years old, the doctor said she was in better shape than most 65 year olds with her diet, excercise routines, among other vitamins she took. She laid over him at the hospital to say goodbye one last time after he passed away and her heart arrested. Thats the first time I heard the term "Broken Heart Syndrome".. I was only 10 years old at the time and at almost 36 years old now I still can't forget the image of him laying there with mamaws head on his chest. The most bittersweet moment of our lives. They were married since they were 13 and 15 years old. I cannot imagine what that would be like.❤

The second story reminds me of my aunt and uncle. A few years ago, my uncle passed after a long battle with cancer. Luckily, my aunt was with him, but still, she was full of anguish, as they'd been married for over 40 years. She left the hospital that morning, made it home to confirm his funeral arrangements, hung up the phone and actually had a heart attack right there. We think it was purely from all the stress and, of course, heart ache. They absolutely adored each other in life and together, they left this world, on the exact same day. That's rare.
Today, our whole family feels it was meant to be. But I often think about them. They loved, lived & passed... together. ❤

My HEA and I went through a very real health scare in December 2021. It was a true wakeup call for us both, but especially for him. He'd never imagined he could lose me so quickly, so young. I was diagnosed with "necrotizing aspiration pneumonia", which they told me was "practically unsurvivable". Obviously I survived. But now he gets a bit paranoid whenever I sneeze, cough, or God forbid get a little cold. 💜 I know it is because he loves me, and while somewhat annoying he doesn't take it too far. The wakeup call my illness gave him is that he now realizes just how important I am to him. He knew he loved me for over 30 years. He just kind of took it for granted after so long. Now neither of us take such things for granted. We have learned to show our love for one another through both actions and words, multiple times every single day. So I really relate with the 1st story.

OMG! Story one is so heartbreaking. I think the judge made the right decision. This man will live in grief and guilt for the rest of his life. My son used to sleepwalk; he is never violent, but there were❤ been some issues. For example, one morning when he was 10, we went to wake him up for school, and he was nowhere in the house. Of course, we panicked and called the police. He was finally found sleeping in our neighbors doghouser. After this inciden,t we installed a home alar,m and whenever any door was opened we were notified. Thank goodness as he got older he outgrew the sleepwalking.
Story 2 was just amazing. I have heard of broken heart syndrome, but didn’t know exactly what it entailed. Our brain and body are still such a wonder.

Anyways.. he got so bad that he turned on his wife a few times and so he had to go into a home and have 24 hour care. I swear to you now from that very moment her grandmother was completely destroyed and was a shell of herself utterly heartbroken and from that day her health declined so bad it was like her body couldn’t cope and she died within the year of their separation. Before that she was physically fit and mentally fit. I believe if her grandad never got this shitty disease that her grandmother would still be here today… It’s crazy what love can do to someone.

I once slept walked while on vacation with friends. I slept walked out of the hotel room, took the elevator to the street level and started walking thru the parking lot when I woke up. I was 18 and was dreaming I had taken a nap at a friends house and had to get home. It was sort of embarrassing to knock on the hotel room door at 3AM to get let back inside while in just an oversized Tshirt. A lot could have gone wrong that night.

As a 25yr RN and 20 of those years working in Hospice, I can absolutely attest to Broken Heart Syndrome being a real thing. In fact, when you have people who have been married for 50+ years, it is exponentially a bigger issue. To the point that I have had many conversations with families about the possibility of this occuring. In fact, the statistics are staggering that anyone married for 30+ years is not only at risk for this syndrome, but HUGE probability of them passing within a year of each other. Never forget, humans are pack animals. We need each other and form strong attachments. It is as heartbreaking as it is a beautiful thing. To know that someone loved you soooo much, they cannot live without you (literally), is goals we should all strive for. I can't tell you how many folks I have told, "True love is a romantic thing. True love is kissing your wifes crusty lips and turning her every 2 hours so that she doesnt get bed sores....and still loving her in ways most can't understand." Very humbling to witness. Something we all aspire to.....

Many years ago, my mom (who was a nurse) told me that even if someone is in a coma, they can still hear you. I had the unfortunate opportunity to try this on my mom last December when she was rushed into ICU and put into a medical coma. Her heart and breathing rates were very high, and I talked her into bringing them down. It was incredible to see that she was able to lower and stabilize both for a good hour until I left for home.
When my sister and I visited our mom, we would talk with her to help give her a chance to fight whatever illness she was dealing with. She came out of the coma on her own Christmas Day.
Sadly, though she tried her best to fight hard, she ultimately lost the battle and passed away on March 7th, 2024.
If you have a loved one in a coma, please, talk with them. They can hear you!

I used to talk to comatose pets all the time as a vet tech, Im sure they heard me and it made me feel better anyway. I once cradled a snake who had very difficult time to come back after a big surgery, we called her owner (to come say his goodbyes, it didnt look good) and as he started to hold her, she started to come out of it. Snakes hearing isnt the best, she probably smelled him, but it’s the same thing. I was happy to put the euthanasia meds away, best outcome we couldve hoped for!

Budgie got away from its owner and as I caught it with a towel after some chasing, poor thing just keeled over, we couldnt bring it back.
