  • Here are the part numbers:
    Gear oil - 75w-90 synthetic - 1141679, you need 2.2 quarts.
    O-ring - 3855081 - you need 2 of these
    O-ring - 3852045 - you need 1 of these
    Other part numbers for the 4.3GXI-E that might be useful:
    Oil filter - 3850559
    Impeller - 21951348
    Fuel filter - 3862228
    Engine oil - SAE 10w-40 synthetic - 21681794 (quart); 21681795 (gallon) - you need 5 quarts
    The best prices I have found is Marine Parts Source - www.marinepartssource.com. I'm not sponsored by them, but if they want to throw me a discount code that would be awesome.
    Total cost to do the gear oil change is about $135. I order 3 quarts of gear oil, stuff is expensive.

      What tool do I need to change prop for a Volvo pentra

    • @ninjapatton
      @ninjapatton  5 років тому

      Robin Roberts - for a dual prop they make a special tool since there are two different nuts. I did my buddies prop with some large pipe wrenches. My prop didn’t require a special tool.

    How did you crack the lower flathead plug? Mine is wicked tight and I’m not sure the best way to approach it. Seems like the flathead design was a terrible choice.

    • @ninjapatton
      @ninjapatton  2 роки тому

      I used the biggest flathead i could find. You could also put a wrench on the screwdriver and have someone lightly tap the handle of the screw driver while you’re turning.

    I have a Volvo penta D3-140 engine. how many hours in one oil change? tq

    • @ninjapatton
      @ninjapatton  2 роки тому +1

      I think it just depends. I know guys who put 200 hours a year on their engines and only change the oil once.
      I do it once a year regardless of hours.

      I used a big screw driver , put vice grips on it. Pressed in really hard and used the vice grips to turn the screw diver.

    Why cant you just fill in the dip stick hole?

    • @ninjapatton
      @ninjapatton  6 років тому +4

      Paul McCown
      1. Manual says to do it from ground up.
      2. By going from the top, you could still have an air bubble or even a void in the lower gear case. By going from the ground up you ensure all parts are coated. Also, when filling from the top there is no way for the air to escape and will take forever.

    Does your hydrofoil help? Pros\Cons?

    • @ninjapatton
      @ninjapatton  6 років тому

      Daniel Somraty
      It helped get me on plane faster but didn’t stop The porpising. So I added Nautilus SX trim tabs and they worked even better; so I pulled off the hydrofoil.

  • @justin8899

    Can you not fill it from the hole under the cover instead of from the bottom?

    • @ninjapatton
      @ninjapatton  4 роки тому +6

      You shouldn’t fill from the top. You fill from the bottom to ensure no air bubbles. Every lower unit I know of is filled from the bottom up.
