I don't understand how the president can come to the conclusion that "security is not a zero-sum".
But his country is so far north that he may not be aware of the effects that increased "security" of the British and US means for Africa and the middle east. If we armed ourselves to the teeth, or aligned with NATO for example, other SADC countries would rightfully feel threatened. That would affect their abilities to make independent decisions. Even if we might not be aware of this. The whole existence of guns is justified by security, but we know that they allow rape, robbery and extortion to go unfettered.
So saying that increasing your security 'takes nothing away from others' is ignorant and dishonest

I hope I understood you correctly, but NATO is a defense alliance, nothing more. If you want peace, you will get it. It's a big mistake to ally with the Russians or the Chinese, but I know it's about corruption.

It only takes away from others if the country is corrupt and abuses the security measures they have established in an offensive way. How is NATO threatening to anyone? NATO is a defensive organization and a defensive pact. NATO has never attacked anybody, it's sole purpose is to act as a defensive organization and defense forces.
