  • Today's outdoor adventure takes us kayaking in Ponte Vedra, FL. We launched from the Nocatee Paddle Launch which is a terrific spot for beginning kayakers. We had some fun with the local wildlife and provided tips on how to handle boaters. It was a gorgeous day weather-wise and we even stopped at the Palm Valley Bar & Grill which is a great destination when you're on the water.
Wildlife wasn't the best on this trip as we only saw great egrets and crabs. This area is known for manatees which I personally have never seen here but look for each time I go. It also seems to be the only place in St. John's County where I encounter "sea lice" aka jelly fish larva. These little buggers sting the heck out of my arms and legs. If you have sensitive skin like I do, know what you're getting into ahead of time.
The best part of this trip had to be the little crab who didn't realize he was 1,000 times smaller than me. I always find it fascinating how much spunk these little guys have! It just goes to show, it's not the size of the crab in the fight but the size of the fight in the crab!
As far as the kayaking in Nocatee, always go at rising or high tide. At low tide it is too shallow to launch or get back out of the water. The area is full of deep mud with hidden oysters beneath. I have personally cut my feet pretty badly here and can't stress this enough - go at HIGH tide!
If it's your first time visiting this part of Ponte Vedra, definitely stop at the Palm Valley Bar & Grill. You can pull your boat up to the dock and they even have a sandy kayak parking area. The staff is great and there's even a pet squirrel in the gift shop!

Is that the one a little ways south? I saw it on Google Maps but it didn't look complete yet. Is it good-to-go?

@@Dadventures-FL Yes south past the Nocatee towncenter and the water parks. Keep driving south until you see the sign in the roundabout. It's 100% complete. The road is a little rough headed out to it but keep an eye out for Deer and other wildlife as you make your way to the water. Nice bathrooms and the launch is oyster free. Watch out for boaters. There is a gate but only to close the launch after sunset. The gate opens at sunrise.

Dadventures I saw you and yelled out to you twice but you didn’t respond to Dadventures haha. We were the two fisherman standing next to their kayaks. We hooked two tarpon there. Once before you got to us and one after you just passed us.
