Here we FINALLY have Pokemon Stadium 2. I wanted to record this over 5 years ago originally but was told it's pretty much an impossible feat when using only rentals. Well, I managed to do it (as has others since those 5 years), but it was definitely not easy. Both Pokemon Stadium games are possible with rentals but the game really wants to promote buying the handheld games and transfer pak to use your Pokemons on here with a much better moveset. Anyhow, I don't think this needs much further commenting.. but I do want to mention that this longplay was only possible for me using save states. You'll be able to find a few instances where I use a less than obvious strategy to take down the opponent but that's all because this game is pretty pre-calculated and doesn't have as much RNG as the prequel.. meaning that the game acknowledges how the opponent is going to use a certain move and hit a critical with it before you've even selected your own move... so short example: If my first pokemon uses Thunder and kills the other pokemon instantly, he will draw out a pokemon that is super effective against mine and his first move ends up to be a critical and I lose my strongest pokemon which ultimately leads to losing the fight... I might therefore have to use a less superior move instead of Thunder and take a bit of damage on my pokemon.. then use Thunder for the second attack.. kill the pokemon.. and if the opponent then uses the second pokemon and it's attack, it doesn't end up in a critical meaning I can win the rest of the match. Makes sense? So try to refrain from questioning why I sometimes seem to make certain poor decisions on my attacks, because in most of those cases it was simply the only way to beat the match lol. With that being said.. load states also obviously allowed me to see what the opponent does next. So if I know the trainer is going to switch out his pokemon for another pokemon in his next move, I could prepare beforehand by selecting a move that is effective against the pokemon he's sending out. None of this is realistic on real hardware yet it is very much required to beat some of these matches.. playing further into the fact how brutally difficult this is to beat without load state advantages. You can still beat it on real hardware by retrying often enough, but a lot of these matches either require you to cheat through using save states OR a ridiculous amount of luck.
Many 90s babies childhood game right here. Good memories playing this game with friends and random neighbors, crowded around a small CRT TV. Moments like these were way better than Online gaming.
This game is so nostalgic. I remember how I saw mew and celebi being used in the stadium during the game's demo. I wanted to use them so bad but I couldn't figure out how. And then I beat the game for the first time and I was so excited when I saw them in the rental menu. That was the first time I can remember being surprised by an unlockable
It's such a shame that kids today will never know the true excitement behind unlocking something. Since most of the time, you can just pay to get whatever you want in games nowadays
I remember playing Pokemon Silver on my gameboy colour and my two buddies would play this game with each of us taking turns with each battle. Good times and a great game!
It's pretty iconic for me to not have to play this video and have the soundtrack/OST playing in my head. I believe it or not ended up getting physical copies of both Pokemon Stadium and Pokemon Stadium 2, along with Hey You Pikachu (We still have the N64 player 4 microphone accessory to this very day) and I do play the mini-games from time to time but that's about it. Battles are pretty tough as they already are, and man this was brutal to watch you play through from beginning to end. Great job though never the less.
@@Link77793 Where the heck did the Happy Birthday come around?? You mean the 25th anniversary of this game??? Makes sense, but my birthday's in December, not July.
For me, the Challenge Cup was the hardest....mainly because the teams are pre-selected and randomized, meaning you'll need to utilize your given team's attacks and held items well in order to win. It's like you'll need to memorize which does what even before the matches start.
the fact that i had the original pokemon stadium and didn't know this was a thing until last year still shocks me to this day. I never knew that they created a second game that you could play on the n64 as well, maybe i'll get it one day and play it :D
Pokémon Stadium deserves a remake for Nintendo Switch in my opinion and it should feature every Pokemon and Legend Pokemon from Generation 1 to the Present from Kanto, Johto, Hoenn, Sinnoh, Unova, Kalos, Aloha, Galar and Paldea Region
I remember getting through this game being a pain as a kid, even without using rentals. I basically relied on my snorlax that knew Rest, Snore, Hyper Beam and rollout. The matches would take forever because I was constantly having to spam the Rest / Snore combo but I did eventually beat everything.
I love the Stadium series, but Stadium 2 It's really a pain in Round 2. I'm currently playing it on a Nintendo 64 with pokémon from my Pokémon Red, and has been really hard to beat the little cup using only rentals on Round 2
One of my all-time favorite N64 games! I am trying to beat it using rentals only, and it's truly a monumental task. So far I've beaten the Gym Castle other than the rival. I haven't even battled the rival yet because of how difficult it was to get to him and I had recently got there. I would make it to Lance and kept getting hyper beamed. The unfairness in critical hits and the pre-judged moves really sap you...not to mention the rental's terrible move sets. The Kanto gym league was much easier compared to the Johto and the elite four. I also need to win a few more stadium cups. The prime cup is quite hard. I would make it all the way to the final and then get bitterly defeated. I don't think I want to even try round 2 with rentals if I get there!
Yes, I wish it didn't mostly come down to that! I've been using Kadabra, Fearow, Blastoise, Charizard, Wobbuffet, and Electrode. I'll sometimes switch out Wobbuffet with Haunter. I definitely will switch up with some of the ones you used@@longplayarchive
