Just starting from the beginning after seeing you with Ben & Emily. I recognise all of those places from when I lived there. I'm with Josh - if the suns out, I love it, even when it's freezing. It's a quagmire along there, in the wet. Hastings looks like a cool place unless it's become over gentrified. Sussex is staggeringly beautiful 😍

“Do I look sleepy”….”you look beautiful.” Ok, I’m pretty jaded on love stuff BUT that was a very sincere and touching moment. Driving through that ice would be so stressful I imagine lol! Everything looked so magical frosted over like that…those swans were gorgeous. I have one of those wagons and it’s one of the best purchases I’ve made, I use it daily. The very best part of cold weather and lots of chores is cozying up next to the fire with some tea or coffee. 🤎 Awesome video, thank you both!!

Hi You can also take the bark off the white trunks to light your fire. It’s beech and there’s an oil in it that makes it burn really well, even when it’s wet.
Morning Ula and Josh: I just watched Vanessa's "#129 Coping When Your Narrowboat is Frozen for a Week" on her Mindful Narrowboat blog. She's dealt with it several times over the years and has come up with some ways to cope that might be of interest to you. I can't imagine how challenging it must be as a narrow boater. Jenny
For starters that more of a tomahawk than an axe so it's going to be harder for you already. Secondly, when your splitting bigger pieces, put a big piece under it each time. I found it easier to put 3 on top and split 2 then start again. Its way easier on your back. Such a fun video. I loved the laughter.
Indeed!! Yes we have a much bigger axe now and a nice chunky log to split on top of … slowly getting there with all the bits we need to live this special life ✨✨✨✨

Our tank is also integral with the hull. Yours looks perfect....we scraped out a whole bucket of rust and spent ages repainting as one of our first jobs!

The best way to chop wood safely is to use a hammer... Place the axe on the wood where you want to cut then hit it with the hammer, that way you keep your feet intact. Great vlog :)

I've used scavenged wood all winter and still have 2 feet and all my fingers! Put the axe blade on the piece and hit the back with a hammer, don't just whack it as you have little control. Love the videos.

So envious of you all in Britain to be able to live on the canals. Wish we had something like them here in the states! Only way we can do anything close is to drive and camp while crossing the states. Thats coming up. Just retired. So girlfriend and I are planning our trip. Stay safe.
It is a very special way to live but I can imagine in the USA you have so much space that being able to live off-grid on land would be very achievable! Here in the U.K. it is near impossible to do that!

The best way to chop wood safely is to use a hammer... Place the axe on the wood where you want to cut then hit it with the hammer, that way you keep your feet intact. Great vlog :)

I've used scavenged wood all winter and still have 2 feet and all my fingers! Put the axe blade on the piece and hit the back with a hammer, don't just whack it as you have little control. Love the videos.

So envious of you all in Britain to be able to live on the canals. Wish we had something like them here in the states! Only way we can do anything close is to drive and camp while crossing the states. Thats coming up. Just retired. So girlfriend and I are planning our trip. Stay safe.
It is a very special way to live but I can imagine in the USA you have so much space that being able to live off-grid on land would be very achievable! Here in the U.K. it is near impossible to do that!
