Oh God that was comedy GOLD! I started cracking up at the Pavarotti part, then the Barry White part kept the laughter going until I totally lost it at Slim Whitman, Rickie Lee Jones, 5 Neat Guys and Rich Little! Stairway To Heaven was a song that was the rock of my teen years so much so that I have a hard time playing it now it's so played out. Man that was awesomely funny! Great post thanks.
I don't know if anyone's mentioned it yet, but there actually *is* an album like this that came out in the 1990s. It's called "The Money or the Gun: Stairways to Heaven," and it's exactly like this commercial except real. A bunch of acts cover "Stairway" in different styles..
Growing up in Cleveland, OH, watching this comedy troop (pre SNL) they were hilarious (and outrageous for the time). Enjoy SCTV (Second City Television Network). More to come......

@mikey42 I am greatful that I could get Canadian TV (CBC) here, so I could always get SCTV. Honestly, I don't even think I even watched it on NBC. Of course, I am getting old. SCTV is a lost classic, these days.
For people today who might not know what this is satirizing, there are numerous real K-Tel Records TV commercials from the 1970s posted here on UA-cam. Back then, they were inescapable and they really did look and sound just like this comedy version.
I tried to explain this bit to my son, who has just downloaded the original on his IPod... ...but aside from not having heard of any of the performers being burlesqued here, the concept of a "NOT AVAILABLE IN STORES" LP (or the concept of an "LP..." he's never known anything but CD's), sold only on UHF stations, is completely incomprehensible to him. This album is no longer available due to copyright infringement by Led Zeppelin and Taurus. Also by The Godfathers nephew Johnnie Pavarotti who has claimed voice copyright infringement on Luciano Pavarotti singing Stairway to Heaven.
@futs30 Wow, I had no idea that something like this would bother JP so much...money changes everything, eh? Oh, btw, YES!! I've seen Rick Moranis as "Linsk Minyak (sp)" doing the Leutonian version of Stairway to Heaven on the Shmenge Brothers special. SO DANG FUNNY!!! I miss SCTV, The Shmenge Bros, and John Candy. ::(
Actually, there's an Australian show called "The Money Or The Gun" that did this. Every week, they had a different group sing a version of "Stairway To Heaven". The Four Lads
@@danielc1978 oh yes, and The Four Freshmen, etc. - all those ultra square vocal ensembles made for a great parody.

I can't get enough of SCTV commercials! This one is near the top, along with Gordon Lightfoot sings every song ever written.
The best hands down. Gordon's was 379 records right?
They are soooo funny..
