I've been driving kenworths for almost 16 years. Started out in t800s then in 2012 I finally got a w900b, which is my favorite looking truck. I'm on my 3rd one now, love them.

American trucks are the best! I don't see anyone jumping to get any of that pretty boy European crap! The Kenworth W900, W900A, W900B, W900L, Icon 900, and W990, Peterbilt Model 359, 379, and 389, Freightliner Classic XL, Freightliner Coronado, and International Harley Davidson Edition over one of those European models any day! I don't see any real red blooded American Truckers buying any of those Tesla Rigs either!

Right on! My Dad owned and operated a 79 A model. He bought it in 1980 and I was 10 years old. Went trucking with him every summer break. Best times of my life. After 30 years in the body shop business I just got my cdl and will be starting a career.

I love w900 every since I was a kid. Had a toy truck and it was a w900. Now I own the real thing. I'm glad Kenworth is keeping them around. Just a good looking truck classic style and class all together. Can't go wrong with a w900

Great video but there are alot of wrong information in this video as far as years when kenworth 900 series as far as the 900 kw 1959 was the first year for a tilt fiberglass hood not 1961 and technically 1959 to 1963 narrow hood was common and near the end there where wide hood 900 then 1964 came the first w900 "wide" cab w900A narrow hoods where again common up until bigger power was offerd that needed more cooling then the wide hood came to be more common as well as the exstended cowl trucks to accommodate the v12s detroits and other oddball engines 1969 was the first year for a true exstended hood and somewhere between 70 73 they they redesigned the vent windows and t handle and latches etc i could go on for days ps 1974 was the 50th annervesery of kenworth all trucks built that year had gold hood emblems and badging also the new design was embedded and first year for 60" sleeper which was first seen on the movin on tv show

Most of the people who do not live in America , they are not truck drivers , but do love trucks and truck games know that Kenworth beast very well ! I started with getting to know them since i got my hands on a game "18 wheels of steel" , then "pedal to the metal" and came to the latest American truck simulator and European truck simulator ! I have to say this truck won my heart because it drives better , it's a masculine truck , sexy as hell V8 sound and it PULLS the heaviest cargo's as if they were toothpicks ! Just yesterday i saw a video from Australia with Kenworth trucks pulling 4 trailers road train with 300k tonnes of coal each ...Now that was impressive and i would say if i ever become a truck driver in U.S.A i know what i will be looking for !

I drove a 2004 W 900L day cab in the middle 2,000’s . It had a 475 Cat later turned up to 525 with a 18 speed road ranger with 370 gears and 24.5 tall rubber. It had the 1 piece windshield with a sunroof , bullet markers and twin trumpets, the large slotted aluminum wheels and everything that could be chrome or stainless was. It was silver with black cherry metallic fenders and roof. Along with the full gauge package , twin premium leather seats and leather diamond tucked interior and a premium sounds system. I wish I had the funds at the time to buy it but oh well

I've owned KW-K100 long wheelbase, 400 Cummins 13 speed, Pete 379EXHD 550 Cat 18 over, Volvo 64 3406 E Cat, 9 speed, Freightliner 132XL, Det 470 & Centry 120, Det 430, 10 Speed. I've driven just about all the older trucks from a Peter 351 to the 389, Kenworths from a W-9, W-923, W-925 to W900L off the showroom floor. Mack COE F model to the B61 tri plex and the R models in the oil fields. But my favorite truck I got the pleasure of driving down the road was an ole' LT model Mack a man I worked for back in the late 80's and early 90's. He restored this truck from the ground up. This truck had the long butterfly hood with a big cam IV (4) 400 Cummins, with a 15 speed over drive and a 4 speed progressive brownie behind that. This truck would get on down the road. He said it would do 125. I would say it would do 111 with pedal to spare. If you was in the woods going to the loader, for logs, you could drop it into 1st and under and it would creep around them dirt roads. Yes it was a blast!

Kenworth said the W900 would be produced as long as the sales numbers were sufficient. Absolutely no promise was made on how long. Doesn't anyone find it odd they haven't seriously refreshed the W900 for decades? It's being put out to pasture folks, within 5 years, i'd imagine. Haven't we been lied to before? I'm calling bs on this one. The W990 and the 389 replacement will be sharing the same cab with just a couple years.

For those interested look up Kenworth W900SAR. Released in 1975 it's the first Kenworth engineered for the tough Australian conditions and built in Bayswater North, Victoria. Australia. The Kenworth K125CR from the U.S. didn't hold up well here and breakages were fairly common, hence the engineering of a Kenworth to suit our unique conditions. SAR originally stood for Short bonnet A-series cab Right-hand drive but was localised to stand for Short Australian Right-hand drive. A legendary and tough as nails Kenworth that originally had a unique sloping bonnet design.
Kenworth plant at 64 Canterbury Road Bayswater North, Victoria. Australia still producing trucks today.

False. In fact, I will call that a bald-faced LIE.
The 1982 and newer W900B is a completely different truck. It was engineered from scratch - it has all new hood, cab, sleepers, frame, interiors, electrical, exhaust, even the horns and clearance lights are different.
      They are completely different trucks.

I'll make an extremely long story short:
I grew up as a gear head wrenching on cars.
Wanted to work on NHRA Nitro cars.
They said they don't hire mechanics w/o a CDL.
Went to trucking school in 2019. They have, I think it's a 2010 W900L. The one everybody bitches about the hood being like 2 inches off or whatever. It has an ISX backed by an Eaton 18 speed.
I would like the reader to note that I was the only student to start learning the art of floating gears in that truck while pulling (empty) double belly dump trailers. 😎
Near the end after most students graduated and while I was still having trouble backing, we visited a local Flatbed company that uses mostly 359 and 379 Petes to include a 1984 model with a 5&4 twin stick.
There in the yard sits a white Seattle or Portland edition 1980s era W900.
The guy told us to open the hood.
There, in remanufactured glory, painted in white, sits the famed 3408 with straight pipes.
Both of my instructors in that trucking class have 50+ years in trucking and they always played to my love of classic cars, mechanical systems, and my disdain for computers.
I had seen the 08 here on TubeYou. Figured I would never see one IRL.
When that geezer saw my instant goosebumps, he told me to come back in a few years and take her for a ride up the freeway and back.

Love K DUBS!! But sad to say that most of us company drivers will never drive a truck like that, simply because most fleet owners are looking for a light truck and one that will achieve good fuel economy and besides it all sorry to say this but the new W990 is going to replace the old man , one reason why is that the storage is up to date in the W990. Now you can mount your flat screen TV at eye level and you have a nice big shelf for your microwave , the only thing missing for kenworth to do to its W990 and that is make a studio sleeper on it! The 660 was replaced by the 680 I'm sure that the 900 will be replaced by the 990.

The other comment was I use to drive a about 1977 W900 long nose with a Cat 1693 and that was the first long nose because the engine was so long. Was a great video though and thank you

Great video, congratulations. The W900 are a mainstay of the logging industry in Australia. In the early 1990's the W900 had cosmetic face lift that seemed in line with a lot of the W900L features, but in Australia at least, was rebranded T900 and then subsequently the T904, and T908 along with the other T models in the 400 series and 600 series. Question, for the 900 series, was the 'T' branding specific for Australia or was this in America too?

So many people hate the 990 and I don't really understand why.
Its not really bad, they're just going foward and modernising their trucks. There's absolutely nothing wrong with that. Its like complaining about how Ford doesn't still make T Model cars, just find it childish to hate the 990, yeah it doesn't have a nice aesthetic like the W900. But that doesn't mean they're bad, the trucks are nearly identical, to hate it for its modern sleeker look is very childish and stupid.

    • @averyw.3939

@@averyw.3939 Yeah, the headlights do look awkward on this truck, it does on the T880 too but not as bad looking. Other than that the W990 is alright in my opinion.

It's a T680 with a traditional hood and front axle placement. So basically a tarted up.fleet truck on a flimsy fleet frame.

I think people are forgetting that this is no different than what Kenworth has done with most of their trucks. Use a common cab design across your product line. The T660, T800 and W900 share that. Granted that the T660 and T800 have sloped hood and a setback front axle. Where the W900 has the same cab just with a long hood and a forward setting front axle. It's no different than what Kenworth has done with its 2.1 meter cab product line, the T680, T880 and the W990.

Kenworth listened to their customers and dealers when they wanted to replace the W900 with the W990. Now Kenworth needs to make it possible for the new modern TV sets to go in the W900 with ease and give the 990 a 900 grille and get rid of the International looking front.along with the Studio Sleeper option.

I think the K200 needs to come to North America, but Paccar won't do it. In fact, they now put a disclaimer on the K200 page that it's a RHD model for Australian use only.
Whoever's in charge there doesn't give a shit what the customer wants, they want you to buy the 990 because it's cheaper to build than the B or L models, so they make more profit.
