- Flowers of the Forest, or The Flooers o the Forest, is a Scottish folk tune commemorating the defeat of the Scottish army of James IV at the Battle of Flodden in September 1513. Although the original words are unknown, the melody was recorded c. 1615-1625 in the John Skene of Halyards Manuscript as "Flowres of the Forrest", although it might have been composed earlier.
The country has been in national mourning since Prince Philip’s death on April 9, with union flags flown at half-mast across the UK for more than a week.
And as the Queen’s husband of 73 years was laid to rest in Windsor on Saturday, it was a Braemar piper who played the lament just yards from the flag-draped coffin, and the grieving widow.
Pipe Major Colour Sergeant Peter Grant, of the 4th Battalion, The Royal Regiment of Scotland (4 Scots), played Flooers o’ the Forest down the hall of the chapel, a role he was all-too-aware could fall upon him when he took up his post one year ago. - Фільми й анімація
I went toa service in Canada some years ago to honour over 200 fallen of United Nations Peace Keepers a lone piper played Flowers of the Forest for over an hour. There were not many dry eyes there.😢
Listening to the pipes does something to my soul thats unexplainable
Same
I can hear that tune a hundred times and not cry. But if I see the bagpipe player turn and walk off I’m a wreck. Every time. It’s the walk off and the change in sound.
Also played today at St. Paul's Cathedral, R.I.P. queen Elizabeth
Fois Agus Sith Ma'am. 😔
Was that not in Windsor?
@@mattpbent yes this was in Windsor. I meant to say that it was also played in Westminster abbey, I believe...
@@mairi2693 what does this mean? Is it Scottish?
@@annekelabots8784 It's Scots Gaelic. It means rest in peace.
A powerful and poignant moment executed with grace.
Plays at my local Anzac day service during the wreath laying and always get goosebumps
Ein wunderschönes Lied. Passend für diesen traurigen Anlass.
Thank you, again, Jim. Respect. Pelters from hindquarters welcome. Goodbye for a while, P. R 💚🍻
Hauntingly beautiful.
Solo piper is the best way to hear this tune.
That tune brings a tear to a glass eye!
Another excellent video and record.Keep up the good work Jim.
What a fantastic piper never give it up ❤
Beautiful sight and sound.
What a beautiful Hymn especially this being the month off May.🙏🙏🙏
Wunderschön❤
The most “ memento “ lament for fallen comrades
This is the portion where I cried. In America. ❤

Saddest lament that can be played on bagpipes. Crying isthe StandardReaction to hearing it. It is considered to be extremely unlucky to be heard playing Flowers of The Forest unless at a suitably solemn occasion. Practising it is normally done in the mountains of the Scottish Highlands in as remote a spot as you can find. The reason: the mountains and Glen's are old and tough enough to bear the burden of sadness inherent in the practice playing of this lament
Love this listen to bagpipes it chills shit out of me ❤❤❤❤
Beautiful
As a Northumbrian born Canadian e tthis tune was wrote about the Anglo Scotish battle in Northumberland which the Scots lossing their king bishops dukes lords as well as common soldiers makes this old soldier tear ip

Is this traditional to be played at funerals? I'm looking for a piece to be played at my father's funeral. He served 35 years In the forces in total. Many thanks.
