Children of Earth was haunting, excellent to be sure but haunting. I miss when the BBC was worth paying for, they no longer make anything that would make me buy a TV licence again.
No. Not by a long shot. Arguably, it’s the single best written story in the entirety of Doctor Who, and even if it’s not #1, it is one of the darkest, most compelling and powerful stories ever put to screen.
It was all filmed where I live & I used to serve the cast & crew their breakfasts. Also went to the same school as Gareth David Lloyd who lived a few streets away. I know nobody cares but hey ho 😂 I thought Children of Earth was great!!❤
I've never been too into Torchwood but always heard good things about this series specifically... Definitely checking it out after this video 😂 fully convinced
1:08 I was putting off watching this as I remember being traumatised by it... 1 minute in and... thanks for reminding me why I was absolutely traumatised... not sure I'll be able to watch *that* episode
The one thing I think is extremely contrived and forced about COE is Jack’s family. Not that I don’t believe Jack has a plethora of them from the women - and men - he fell in love with over the time he was on earth, but that they just appear and act like Jack has always been involved in their lives when… no? Obviously not. Now both actors do a good job of making their attachment to Jack believable despite the very short amount of screentime they have to make… you-know-what hit as hard as it does, but that doesn’t change the fact that their inclusion is very obviously last minute in terms of Torchwood as a show and it keeps trying to hammer home this deep, long lasting connection between Jack and his family but it just isn’t there in the same way as it is for the rest of the Torchwood team. I don’t think there was even a way around this as they’d have been pointless side characters if they were introduced in earlier series but you need the child to have a personal connection to Jack for the sacrifice to mean what it does at the end. In most cases, I probably wouldn’t draw any attention to this aspect at all but when COE is otherwise as tightly written as it is, this aspect really does stand out in comparison to everything else.
I have to say the series took a while to get going for me, but the last two episodes are just top quality writing and directing. Not the best of the Whoniverse but definitely the best of Torchwood
0:59 "It cant be as bad watching it now as an Adult... RIGHT?" - LOL! Lets put it this way Harry, I was 36 When this aired... (I tried to google the air date but got the Air date of Torchwood instead... So originally wrote 33, 3 years out!) IT SCREWED MY HEAD UP!!! IT BROKE ME!!! I HAVE NEVER BEEN ABLE TO REWATCH IT AS MUCH AS I ACTUALLY WANT TO!!!! Only ONE other piece of Media has EVER had that effect on me and that was TRAINSPOTTING... I watched that movie YEARS after the hype... I was 28 and just become a father for the first time... I was enjoying the movie until - They found the baby... And just turned and said "I ned another hit" That was it! I turned the Movie off and I have NEVER watched it again... I can't! It just cripples me... Children of Earth, while I managed 3 of teh episodes (I missed the last ones for some reason, I dont recall why... ) is the same... As a father, It hits so much harder!!!
It's great BUT overrated. Everyone calls it a masterpiece but to me it has fatal flaws. 1. Critique of the government is fair but writing them into a no win scenario situation with no possible alternative then critiquing that government for making that decision is unfair. 2. Children of Earth and Miracle Day is essentially two full series of humans making stupid bizarre decision after stupid bizarre decision. There's being morally grey and then there's making everyone awful. 3. Why had Rapesh spent months infiltrating torchwood or trying if the kill order was only delivered that day. The actual plot to get Torchwood destroyed is insanely weak and hollows the 'John Frobisher was a good man' point by day 5.
Has to be by far the darkest and one of the most compelling multi-part stories to come from the whoniverse.

Actually my favorite season of any show out of the doctor who universe

I wouldn’t say it’s number one in terms of the story and the script but it’s definitely the darkest in tone
It’s one of my favourite series of Tv… and it has Capaldi 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
For me, the Torchwood episode "Adrift" is the most chilling. I can't rewatch it. I just can't. It is far too traumatic.
Omg been waiting for this!

Wow ❤❤ I care ❤❤ uh-mazing!

It was excellent
The best season, shocking and tested those Torchwood characters to their core, this is why I absolutely love Torchwood
13:01 - To quote Taffe316, "Oh my god they're french!"
Wondering if Frobisher is actually Frobisher. Possibly to honor the Doctor, he chooses 12's body and settles down on earth.

Featuring the delightful Katy Wix.
I love her so much, I can’t!
Literally started rewatching children of earth yesterday. Should've ended with that and not miracle day
So glad I was here to watch this when it came out

Uh Ianto's brother in law isnt homophobic. He makes some banter with Ianto then hugs him. Its made perfectly clear ianto being gay doesnt bother him.
