  • At the end of June the statue of humanitarian hero Irena Sendler will be coming to Newark. The Polish Cultural Institute in London along with Sculptor Andrew Lilley were able to get a sneak peak before the statue travels to Newark for the official ceremony.
Few people in the UK may know of Polish humanitarian hero Irena Sendler and the sacrifices she made during World War II. But her story is one of monumental importance and one that Newark and Sherwood District Council, Newark Town Council and the Polish Cultural Institute in London want to share to ensure that her story becomes a legacy that will never be forgotten.
On Saturday 26 June 2021 a statue of Irena Sendler will be unveiled at Newark’s Fountain Gardens on London Road, at a small COVID-secure ceremony.

I'm looking forward to seeing this installed at Fountain Gardens on London Road. I walk my dogs there most days.
