    I did the opposite: turned my vintage amp/turntable in the livingroom to airplay speaker with airport and then used 2 Sonos Roam portable speakers in the garden: the have native airPlay2 are battery powered and waterproof. Plus if i dont need a speaker in the garden i can take it to the shower!🤩

    I did get it work. I used my iPad to set it up and got it to search for my iPhone’s personal WiFi network using the iPad. Very simple. I then connected it to my Technics Digital Integrated Amplifier SU-X501 via an optional cable. WOW the results are something to be heard.

    That's a fun project. Came out really nice. For my wife's 40th party, I used 7-8 dots around the house and outside all syncing with apple music. It wasn't weather resistant but it worked well for the party.

      Yeah, I wish Apple would just drop the HomePod mini or whatever they’re calling it so I can get these in every room for Siri.

    I am using the first Airport Express for the same thing. It has no AirPlay 2 but hard to complain for 6€.

    Thanks for the video. Would you be able to play audio to these speakers and a sonos at the same time? Or even two airport expresses if you want a few zones?

  • @nrikhy27
    @nrikhy27 Рік тому

    Nice video. The issue with this setup is that airplay 2 on the airport has its own volume, and the amp connected to the speakers their own .

    • @ReyG_HKSH
      @ReyG_HKSH  Рік тому

      You can set the loudest position you want on the amplifier and control the volume via AirPlay. It’s pretty seamless actually. A good use for the deprecated AirPort Express. Thanks for watching! 🙏

    Also, does the airport extreme version 802.11AC which is the taller one supports airplay 2?

    It looks nice, very good idea. My only concern would be the heat inside the box, how hot does the amplifier gets?

    • @drdrew3
      @drdrew3 4 роки тому

      Amplifiers need ventilation to avoid overheating. All manufacturers include “ideal operating temperatures” to protect the sensitive internal components. They are designed for indoor use which often means a dehumidified air-conditioned environment. This box would need some ventilation holes drilled and positioned in an area with zero chance of splash. Otherwise I’d expect the amp to die prematurely

    • @Techlifeandmore
      @Techlifeandmore 4 роки тому

      Yeah that’s what I’m wondering too. Although, our family has a TP Link smart plug extender which we have in a built-in plug box for our GFI plug. The extender in question is a T feeling a V 600 powerline extender with power over ethernet capabilities. It gets very hot, but it is still working to this day. Although, I I am still concerned about it stopping working because of the fact that heat can fry technology if it gets too hot. That’s why smart phones and tablets and computers have have temperature sensors that part of a message on the screen that says on iPhones and iPads: temperature your iPhone needs to go down before you can use it.

    I know you can stream music to multiple airplay devices. But when watching video on apple tv 4k can I stream the audio to 2 homepods (as a stereo pair) AND an airport express which has a subwoofer connected. So I can achieve stereo with homepods + subwoofer at the same time to watch movies. Hope my question was clear! Thanks!

    You can do this in about 5 minutes by using a sound bar that doesn’t require a separate amplifier or speaker wiring. You can choose one that includes wireless subwoofer and surround speakers if you like. The sound quality isn’t a issue given the limitations of an outdoor environment.
    If it’s just outside sound (not whole home audio) you are looking for might as well just hang a Roku enabled smart TV on the porch and add a sound bar - lots more functionality with that set up

    • @ReyG_HKSH
      @ReyG_HKSH  4 роки тому +3

      Specifically wanted AirPlay 2 compatibility outdoors for this usage. Also did want stereo sound. A soundbar would be too limiting and it’s not something I would want to permanently install outside.

    • @Techlifeandmore
      @Techlifeandmore 4 роки тому

      Body Apple airplay to stuff! I don’t know if Roku can give you that. Although, that idea with the sound bar is a pretty good idea, however, you have the issue that sound bars aren’t always waterproof.

    • @Techlifeandmore
      @Techlifeandmore 4 роки тому +1

      @@raymondngo3990 well that’s cool. But, it’s hard to protect the TV as one of the repliers said. He said that it was much easier protecting an amplifier and airport express second generation. All though, this is an a job for the faint of heart.

      @Jacob Milford also, for the android or is out The Google Chromecast is available. They’re 35 bucks, and you can use them with Apple products too. So, if you have lots of people who are android or ‘s, just think about using chrome cast because it would make their life a whole lot easier but not making your life a ton bit harder.

    • @ReyG_HKSH

      Not at all, the AirPort Express can connect via WiFi.

    • @Techlifeandmore
      @Techlifeandmore 4 роки тому

      Not necessarily. If your Wi-Fi connection is strong enough, you don’t need an ethernet unless you want really really fast Internet to the airport express would you really don’t need since music is very small.

    Good info. I got 3 of those old devices off eBay so I could airplay to the garage, my shop and back yard. One constructive suggestion- the background music, you need to find one that loops longer than 5 seconds. After about 3 minutes it gets irritating at a kid with a duck call.

    • @eichelbergergary
      @eichelbergergary 10 місяців тому

      uhhh, without wiFi, this setup wouldn't work, as that is what carries the source stream to the Apple AP Express. for some folks, this setup makes a lot of sense. airplay 2 sound quality is superior to any bluetooth music stream. ( not to mention: bluetooth speakers of any quality aren't cheap either.) This setup allows you to use superior speakers, and to put real power through them to utilize the superior internals. This is appealing to those who also want to achieve something a bit more permanent for their outdoor living space -- my setup is somewhat similar to this and I may in fact adopt a few of these choices after seeing the vid.
