"The savagery a man us capable of, when he believes his cause to be just". Learning a lot about African American history, what terror to go through. ...difficult to watch, but you can tell that from producer to director to writer to actor, everything is well done. Amazing series.
I just checked out the DVD from local library and I'm not even done with the first episode but already can tell it won't be an easy series to watch

Just finished watching all 10 episodes of season one. It’s sad , but these stories need to be told. It’s a shame what happened to our brothers and sisters .. a real shame that we were treated and bred like cattle.
And our men breed with the ancestors of devils.
@@queenstatus3049 you as well as any other brother or sister can marry whoever they’d like 🤷🏾♂️🤷🏾♂️. We should also remember that not all whites agreed with how blacks were treated during those time and also risk their own lives to save or protect our people. It’s the issue of the heart, not the color of the skin. We are all beautiful and made in the image and likeness of God. And it is for that very reason no matter what color , we all have to the right to be treated with dignity.

After watching the trailer, I watched a Rolling Stones interview with Barry Jenkins... this man is down to earth, incredibly smart, and has a respect for the themes he is working on. Very impressed and I agree he will go from winning Oscars to winning Emmy's like another poster mentioned in the comments.
We are teaching our students about the Underground Railroad currently in a 7th Grade Social Studies class. I've passed this on to the lead teacher so they can possibly share some of the content with our students. I personally can't wait to watch this, it looks absolutely stunning.
I’m 4 episodes in and it’s genuinely up there with the best series I’ve seen. It is absolutely fantastic. Hope you enjoy
Let's be clear here. Two artists in their prime connected, and one of the greatest works of art ever produced was produced. It was an honor to watch it.
A spectacular series with heartbreaking sequence of events. To be honest, my heart broke at multiple occasions. When Cora hugs Caesar in her dream 😭🤧
Yeah yeah... All whyte guilt bs
I think the public is not ready yet to appreciate how magnificent this project is. Every plan is a master piece of beauty, the depth of the dialogues, the overall poetry of the story. The cinematic experience provided here is unmatched
Thuso Mbedu is stunningly amazing. She probably has the least lines of any of the actors in the series, yet she’s more captivating than all of them put together. I’ve never seen someone who could express such emotion and deliver such powerful scenes with just their eyes. 10/10
She's the main character though
@@love.yolani Yep. That she is. My point is that she doesn’t always have to rely on dialogue to deliver her scenes like most do. Often everything she does is in silence. In most cases, it’s all in her eyes.

The reality is these are the stories that need to continued to be told because they are still a part of US history.
No they’re not..not even in the slightest
They are your peoples infidelity!
The native American people need to tell their stories too.
isn’t this show fictional? like there’s a literal railroad.... that obviously wasn’t real. I’m confused about everything else though, such as black people literally being outlawed in North Carolina... was that real? If it wasn’t, I don’t get why so many people see this as a great historical story.
@@gracy8806 there was NOT a literal railroad underground. I can’t speak to anything else because I couldn’t watch anymore after I saw they made the story a work of fiction having them board an actual Underground Railroad. What a disappointment. 🤦🏾♀️

Just finished this series, this is really a 10 and worth it. What a serie, a must see for everyone
How so?! It’s completely unrealistic! People who didn’t study black history and were completely ignorant of the facts would stupidly believe there was an actual railroad underground. The acting was horrible as well. I was really looking forward to having a great series to watch that I could share with my kids when they were old enough to show them how our people were historically treated, but they decided to add far fetched fiction into it that simply made it ridiculous! No wonder it only had 3 stars- and those 3 stars were extremely generous. 🤦🏾♀️
Go to the HOOD and see where it got em. The end lmao.
@@dirpchirp7351 you are trash.
Sounds like their problem, this series is Historical Fiction. There is way too much media on this topic for ppl to not know it was not an ACTUAL railroad. Rather than look at it as “ppl will think there was a real train!” Maybe look at it from the perspective that the symbolism is just that…symbolism.
She was one of the most bravest women in history better give tribute to her!!!
I HIGHLY recommend the book! It was one of the first books i ever read in English and it's amazing. I am very excited about seeing this, especially with such a great director attached to it.
What’s the name of the book 📖
Such a strong show the actors were very good it truly opens our eyes to what our people went through🙏🏽
This looks like a beautiful series, I must add to my watchlist. I love the idea of transforming peoples journeys into a physical railroad. It's a wonderful interpretation and a powerful image to represent the topic.

*_“The Underground Railroad” has been shut out of the 2021 Emmy Awards. After receiving seven nominations, including recognition for showrunner Barry Jenkins (Outstanding Directing for a Limited Series) and the series overall (Outstanding Limited Series), the Amazon Prime Video original lost all seven categories over two weekends of Emmy presentations."_*
Several months since Amazon's botched release of this series and it still stands as one of the most staggering achievements of dramatic storytelling to be released in 2021 television or otherwise.
I must say…the cinematography is beautiful af
Understand complaints about the abundance of movies about Black trauma, but I gotta see Barry Jenkins has in store for us. Also, I guess a lot of folks missed the lovely "Sylvie's Love" on Amazon.
+1 for Sylvie's Love. Movie was a charmer
Sylvies love!❤️❤️❤️❤️
Another great antidote to black trauma, my favorite depiction of black joy this year: Lovers Rock, from Steve McQueen's Small Axe series of films on Amazon. Pure love. I'll add that the magic realism of Underground RR helps to lift it above trauma porn. For me.
This is one of the best series I have ever seeing. Heart breaking, spoiler alert bring your tissues. Don't shed a tear for me I ain't happy here --Tupac Amaru Shakur
This trailer is so moving. There is a deep and primal emotion generated by the acting and the direction and cinematography.
Being African American it's always hard for me to watch movies about slavery. But if you can manage to get past the violence and the brutality it's worth watching. It doesn't prevent me from seeing the honesty and quality. Which is what you have in this series. I'm curious if there will be a Season 2. I would like to see how this strong willed character with a desire to survive ends up. GREAT SERIES 👍.
I totally agree because there are parts of the show where my mouth dropped and I said let them try this now🤦...BUT the show is perfectly made. It's an attention grabber for sure I must read the book as well
I agree the series was great but the violence especially in episode 1 was too much.

WOW...I can't believe Thuso Mbedu is 29 YEARS OLD, she looks 19 to 20 years old to me, but then again "Black don't crack".
And if you are looking for more great movies from her in the future go to IMDB and read the summary of the movie called "The Woman King". It's in the pre-production phase but I can tell this will be great long wait because Viola Davis, and Lupita Nyong'o is starring in the movie, as well.

This show is great, but the Underground Railroad was not actually a railroad, there wasnt actually a train, it was a passageway for slaves to escape North, West, or all the way down South. The underground railroad was pretty much a tunnel, not an actual railroad.
Yup pretty much
Agreed & all those involved to make it happen had everything to lose by being brave enough to help destroy the "The Immoral Sin!"
There were parts that were tunnels. But not the majority. The majority, is all figurative. People ( often escaped slaves or white Quakers ) who were code named "conductors" would lead people from one safe house to the next. Usually with boats, or some other form of concealment. It wasn't a literal railroad, nor for the most part, actually underneath the ground. The term underground to signify something hidden away is still used.
They made it an actual railroad with a train to simplify it, also just so it fits the name.
Really dude, you felt proud of yourself enlightening us with this information huh,
its imperative we have movies like these to show people and never forget our history! so i am ok with movies like these , i still want to see black happiness in movies aswell
This is a series, not a movie.
They will make a white savior or “helper”
They already shown the balck man patrolling the slaves..
This is a trope.
We are jsut happy for a part in this trope.
Same as the “exterminate the brutes” movie.
It's also imperative and important to show us in a better light as in Kings and Queens, leaders, conquerors and inventors! Not just struggling slave narratives all the time!
@@playablue i've read the book, and unless they change the story, there isn't a white savior. the story is entirely about cora's journey along the railroad.

Currently reading the book. I’m so excited about this production; I got goosebumps
I was hoping to see more true history about the Underground Railroad since it was filmed in Savannah and coastal Georgia. The Savannah AME Church is an historic station, but was not used. The magical underground train with your story as your ticket, is moving. I would have preferred something more like the Harriet movie.
The varieties of stories are heartbreaking. The Valentine Farm in Indiana - a free state - still felt like a threat to bankers, who killed everyone. Cora’s story is the main plot, yet even heading to new hope at end, she never smiles. I wanted a powerful statement from Cora.
Didn’t know of book, so I was not to this with set plot. All and all well done. Loved the train scenes. The stories are haunting.
Harriet was great! As far as this series.. I just couldn’t get with the fictional aspects they ingratiated into it. 🤦🏾♀️

Weird that they don't make it clear in the trailer that in the story, the underground railroad is literally an underground passageway with trains for slaves to escape into. It's the hook of the novel, so why leave it out of the trailer? If I did not know the story, you would get absolutely no idea what this series is about, except, yknow, slavery.
@@babygirllll1234 In real life it wasn’t a literal train line running in tunnels underground
@@mrcurtain5702 it’s sad people don’t know the real story. And they think it was an actual train subway. What it really was. It was a secret safe houses and routes. A network of people, African American and whites. Helping enslaved people from the south.

I watch the whole thing..it was sad but you learn alot/ and a lot of black people need to understand how hard it was for blacks/ because the blacks today think we still suppress/ none of this stuff is happening to us now.. you got blacks who own things making millions. It’s just the mindset that bring us down.. 400 years ago they did all the hardship..now we free but a lot of blacks think we still in slavery// so if you watch this the power of this will make you realize we are free and should be doing better then what we are doing now
