  • This is the story of Watson's Inflammatory Bowel Disease and how we finally have come to a place of managing it well and treating it so he has a much better quality of life :0) Watson is an Australian Labradoodle nearly 6 years old and has suffered with tummy issues since being a puppy. In today's video I talk about what I tried, what tests he's had and how we have finally found a solution! *****I Forgot to mention that if Watson has Diarrhoea or Vomits I give him puppy milk to keep him hydrated and therefore out of hospital!"
    Update - Watson had a mini flare up this week in that we were up a whole night at 2am and 5am with him having an upset bum - to our amazement though he was still eating fine, no vomiting etc, and then after I gave him Buscopan, Paracetomol and the Sivomixx capsule he recovered fully, in less than 24 hours! Usually it takes weeks for Watson to recover from any tummy upset.

    My dog Vinny, is going through similar issues. Been tested for everything under the sun. Starting to vey extremely discouraged our vet says he’s just sensitive. $9000 CDN I’ve spent so far he just turned one. Good for you for staying vigilant. So hard when our fur babies are ill.

    My dog is sick with inflammatory bowel disease. I admire you so much for not giving up on your beautiful boy, you and your husband are wonderful people!! God Bless you both and your amazing doggo too!! I wanted to cry knowing what you and your dog went through, they suffer and so do you (like Shiloh and me). The hurt to see them suffer is horrible!!
    My dogs symptoms are gagging and choking, not eating.. well .. like you I have a story to tell. I adopted by boy Shiloh and he was in bad condition when I got him. Scars all over his face and in general, bad condition. He also was a fussy eater. And one day he started to gag and choke so bad and it went on for a long time. I started taping these bouts and we took him to our regular vet who couldnt help him, we ended up in the AMC in the city, I live in NY. They did tests and we had biopsies done and it was confirmed he had IBD. They also said he had more underlying conditions. They said his IBD was very bad im assuming like your dogs was. And Shiloh had a lot of mucus in his throat. The internist told me that if he looked into the throats of the next 100 dogs they would not see so much mucus as my dog had in his throat, They actually flushed it but it came back.
    Trying to cute to the chase. We were told that they didnt know what causes IBD but one thing was diet. Shiloh like your dog has severe allergies. He is white and his skin and eyes would turn so red from allergic reactions to food. So we tried novel meats like Kangaroo, Elk, Alligator, Bison. I would cook these foods for him but I see my mistakes now. I didnt stick to 1 meat. I bought these together and cooked them sometimes together. The food that helped us was Instincts limited ingredient Rabbit. I could see the difference in his skin and eyes. I have also been buying Instincts raw but they dont have rabbit. Thats my safe meat. I was sooooo happy to see you post the kink for the food you are using, How disappointed I am that its in another country!!!! They even have RABBIT!! If this food didnt have to be shipped frozen I would get it. I will try the probiotics though. I want to use Raw, but I need a good recommendation so I know the company I will buy from is safe. I know they usually do something to the meat to kill bacteria.
    If you or anyone feeds their dogs raw and can recommend a place to me that sells rabbit do let me know. Im very happy to have watched your video and I subscribed to your channel. Hope your baby continues to do well!

    Oh thank you so much for sharing your experience :) Our greyhound Ash has lots of tummy issues, and we have been at the vets so much, so many tests over years, and we are finally being told they think he has IBD, but we won't know for sure until he has his ultrasound, and they also mentioned they could do a biopsy to absolutely get to the root of the issue (obviously we'd rather avoid that if we can). It's honestly so so helpful just to hear that other people and their pups are going through all this and I'm not a crazy person! I know faaarrr too much about Ash's poop! haha. But it's such a slow process and so upsetting and worrying when you see your darling pup is suffering. Honestly just thank you for sharing what's helped Watson and also for sharing how much stress and upset it has been for you, sometimes it feels quite lonely struggling through with our Ash's issues every day, so knowing that we aren't alone is a huge help, although of course we wish no doggies had to ever suffer with tummy issues! xx

    One huge thank you for that video! My girl is 2.5y old and you described the nightmare we are going through since a took her. In the first year, she had regular diarrhoea. First is was helminth, then giardia. We have treated them and moved on Hills special foods, but diarrhoea was coming back regularly. Then when she was around 1.5y I decided to switch to a raw beef diet. Everything went smooth, she was feeling great for about 6 months, and then the vomiting started. She totally refused to eat, despite that she is of the dogs that eat everything they see. I have changed the vet and the new one suggested gastro and colonoscopy. After the interventions, it became clear that she is probably suffering from IBD and active helicobacter bacteria in the stomach. She went through 3 weeks of treatment with antibiotics and probiotics afterwards, but the vomiting still occurs regularly. The diarrhoea still occurs but rarely and not that severe. The problem now is the vomiting and the fact that she refuses to eat, which is not good for her stomach condition. After your video, I am considering coming back on a raw diet, because for the 2.5y since I got her the only period she was feeling well was the 6 months on raw food before the acid reflux started.

    I switched my 7-year-old Papillon mix to home-cooked with no grains, and he hasn't had a bloody flare since. It's been about a year. I find that Adored Beast Apothecary's Leaky Gut Protocol pack has been extremely helpful, as well.
    Something you can do if they're feeling poorly is take their raw and gently cook it. Lance much prefers his this way.

    My Dachshund (4.5yo) has been having these pain attacks since puppy. Not eating, shaking because of the pain, really hard abdominal muscles and when i touched his abdomin or sides he would scream from the pain.
    Three vets, xrays, ultrasounds, bloodsearch, urine search, chiropractor etc etc.
    He is now on raw food for a few days and i hope this will solve his problems.
    I hope Watson is still doing oke and again, thanks for this video!!

    What a journey you have been on together. I picked up my Cockapoo at 12 weeks old and I was given kibble with him. He would eat it but he always had diarrhea on it. Then when he was around 4 months old he started at dog creche and they were selling raw food for puppies from Benyfitnatural, their puppy food also has Verm-X in it. So then we began the transition from kibble to raw at around 4.5 months old and he did great. The older he got he preferred his food to be more chunky and less mushy so I then tried him on other brands, there was a great choice at a local raw store that has all of many of the top brands.
    Some he liked and some he would refuse to eat. He doesn't like fish so to get some oily fish into him I make him homemade treats with sardines, mackeral and other nutrients pumpkin seeds ground up for his heart, a little bit of garlic, sometimes I put in some squash, sweet potato, etc. I also make him chicken liver treats that he loves. The first year of his life I was focusing on building up his immune system. So I would also make chicken brine ice cubes that he also loves. Chicken brine being great for their skin inside and out, its a great collagen booster. We've tried Natures Menu but he still does best on Benyfitnatural for Adult dogs now. Although I do buy Natures Menu Duck Necks and most recently Poultry hearts, sometimes he has those has treats. He also likes a raw chicken wing or drumstick, he chews them up so quickly .
    I became committed to homemade treats because I know better than anyone what his daily diet is. Plus shop bought treats kept on upsetting his tummy. However, when we began dog training I did buy him some biscuits from Jollyees, the gravy bones shaped biscuits etc. They are mainly for training. One thing I would say about raw is that some holistic vets do recommend that you let them fast for one day per week.
    When my dog caught Fox Lungworm, (6 months old) we were given a pro-biotic and there was definitely slippery elm in it. I don't feed my dog any pork because my mother taught that it can turn in the stomach in the summer months. Rabbit is recommended for sensitive tummies, so I usually give him that if he is ever poorly. He likes all the birds, chicken, turkey, goose and duck. He likes all the meats, Venison, Beef, Lamb and Goat. He loves raw carrot and courgettes so they are also treats. All the best to you and Watson. xx

    Enjoy your life sweet Watson, I know you have been thru so much since you were born, would be a blessing if you and my Dobi could have a normal life, I pray for you both always to at least have a good quality of life. I use to feed Dobi raw turkey for dogs but for some reason they quit making it, they told me the demand was so high they couldn’t keep up, it’s the only protein he can eat for his breed. My vet told me to purchase 99% ground turkey from the grocery store and cook it so that’s what I give him along with fresh cooked veggies.

    Thank you so MUCH for the informative Video. Wishing Watson has continual good health. We have been on a similar journey for well over a year. Our Tilly had at the start of 2021 had a bacterial infection we are sure she associated this with her food and didn't want to eat.. Being a Border Collie, she is very head strong and we chopped and changed foods to try and get her eating. It was a horrid time, antibiotics again only temporary worked, she ended up on Steroids long term, even though this didn't make her eat. We had not had a solid motion for months! She has finally been reviewed at a specialist centre for Internal Medicine, and diagnosed with IBD after a endoscopy it showed she had an inflamed duodenum too. But having missed the diagnosis for so long she has lost 10kg of her body weight that has hindered her recovery, so she has anaemia. She is also being checked for small cell lymphoma and we are awaiting that. In the mean time she has started Chlorambucil (chemo) which also treats IBD and increased steroids along with B12, probiotics, Urso (to treat gallbladder sludge) and Tylosin, (If anyone needs info). Im so pleased Raw food helps, I have read so much on feeding this and have been slowly introducing the raw Natures menu and Albion which was the first one I tried. We went with Lamb so far so good. Wishing you all Well and Thank you!!!

      @@ggbean77463 Hi, sad story (sorry) Chlorambucil Tilly was on 5 months no issues, possible side effects loss of hair on nose and blackened skin, but this could have been the high dosage of steroids improved when we dropped them down. She unfortunately had the IBD, T-cell intestinal lymphoma diagnosis in the test results. Due to the long term Steroid usage (Aug 2021 before diagnosis) the specialist thought the Chlorambucil should have been changed to another cancer drug as it was ineffective by this time Tills, who had been 21kg was down to 8.3kg... they wanted to do more testing but she was suffering severely gallballer/pancreatitis severely inflamed. She was a strong girl and we had 6 agonising months of trying to stabilise her until she could fight no more. Im still struggling with the loss and the effects of our daily fight to fix her. The IBD disease alone was enough to cope with. Agonising - Go for the treatment, but don't rule out anything else (I still feel we should have treated her for EPI, but once under the Oncology Internal Meds dropped us). Wishing you so much luck and Strength x

      @@ggbean77463 Hi, sorry for the delay. Our Tilly ended up having IBD, and T cell gastro Lymphoma - she survived 6 months after diagnosis and we unfortunately lost her in August and it is still very upsetting. The Chlorambucil did seem to work at first, but due to the steroid treatment she had been on long term the effects of the drug had been poor and we did struggle to stabilise her consistently. With the Lymphoma and the weight loss when we did finally receive a correct diagnosis we had been fighting a loosing battle. Such a horrid disease. We have to trust the experts and it is worth a try... there are other drugs too - again monthly check ups are specified. I hope all goes well for your pup. Good luck

    Ugh I’m not alone on this journey! My German Shepherd got ran over at only 9months old when we had someone watching him while we were out of town, broken tail and pelvis it’s been 9months since it happened and he’s healed up obviously besides his tail but he had the diarrhea issue non stop, spending so much money locally on vets to see what’s wrong with him and then saying “just give it time” I finally decided to drive 4 hours away and take him into another vet and they put him on 5 different things thinking his gut flora was out of wack, once he got done with them he has decided to not eat and his diarrhea is worse and he threw up his food yesterday. Before we took him to the new vet I changed his food and it seemed to miraculously help him but now it seems to not be working. The new vet thinks he has IBD so I’ve been trying to find more info. Thank you for your video and all these comments give me hope

    Hello,
    I have just watched you very helpful video.
    May I ask, when you make reference to cleanliness when feeding raw food to Watson, ie wiping his muzzle, and cleaning anything he has come in direct contact with after eating, is that to stop the humans from contracting bacteria from the raw food? (Sorry if silly question - I've not raw fed my dog before)
    Many thanks 🙂
    Ps. I hope your beautiful Watson is still happy and healthy 😊

    • @TheBeautyMaverick
      @TheBeautyMaverick 3 роки тому +1

      Not a silly question at all, that's exactly it! Its highly unlikely to cause any issues but best to be careful. The biggest risk is with chicken or turkey as obviously humans can't eat those raw and its the biggest source of food poisoning - not so much an issue with Duck, Venison, Lamb which is what Watson eats lol, but I do prefer to not have raw meat bacteria anywhere if possible. Hope that helps. x

    Thank you for this video. While my 11-year-old pup hasn't been officially diagnosed with IBD, after a couple of ultrasounds and testing for everything else, the vet has suggested she have an endoscopy. I won't put her through that. I'll feed her as if she does have IBD. For years she would have a rather alarming acid reflux attack if she ingested even a small amount of chicken or wheat. Her appetite had slowly declined over the past year or so but I managed to create a mixture of fresh food and kibble that she would eat. All was well until a couple of months ago she developed HGE which resulted in a UTI. She just hasn't bounced back. I'm going up to the pet store today to buy some frozen raw food and see if that will work for her as it did for Watson. Of course, she has to actually want to eat first. She's had a couple of bad days so I gave her a Cerenia this morning.

      Even today I have had my dog at the Vet with an yet to be diagnosed issues. We have done the blood work and x-Ray and Monday for an Ultrasound. • @stormet54
      @stormet54 Рік тому

      @@laurenmattox2230 The alarming symptoms of her acid reflux were gulping as if trying to swallow something and coughing as if trying to cough something up. She would also indiscriminately eat literally anything she could find on the ground such as dust bunnies or leaves/grass/dirt. What stopped the attack was a dose of omeprazole and Tums. Also, while she was in her 'eating anything she could find' mode I'd offer her dog food which she would ravenously consume. She hasn't had an acid reflux attack in quite a while, but I feel that problem has brought us to where we are now. The HGE flared up again on Saturday and I was able to get a prescription for Metronidazole that afternoon which stopped it from getting worse. Her appetite is not good right now but a dose of famotine after work yesterday has helped. I also decided to try syringe feeding her. She seemed to be ok with that so I will continue doing that whenever she refuses food but seems hungry.

    Hello, my 10 month old cockapoo puppy has just been diagnosed with IBD, chronic colitis and is also suffering from a bacterial infection (helicobacter pylori). He has lost all his muscle mass and nearly 3kg of weight. I'm just so scared that we won't be able to control it through diet and then might not respond. It is a slow process trying to introduce a gastrointestinal food. He also likes to eat things he shouldn't and we have to wrestle with him to take things out of his mouth when on walks.
    Any advice would be welcome.
    Thanks

    • @WatsontheWarrior
      @WatsontheWarrior  2 роки тому

      Hi Audrey, I'm so sorry to hear your poor cockapoo is suffering :0( Was there any particular advice you wanted over and above what's in the video? For H Pylori your vet will have given you antibiotics so that should help pretty quickly. I totally understand how you might worry that food won't sort it, I've been there and only tried RAW food in desperation. I promise you, food is where the answer is. To get the right food (normally RAW in cases of stomach issues) is like medicine, better even. We consider Watsons dinner his medicine and if he misses a meal for any reason, he gets tummy issues. It shouldn't be a slow process to introduce RAW food as its not the same as kibble - because there aren't any preservatives in it, its all natural, so you should be able to give them it immediately rather than the slow Introduction required with kibble. We gave Watson a meal of RAW food when he had bloody diarrhoea and literally the following morning things were better.
      Regarding eating things, it sounds like some leave it training will help but an eating rubbish problem is one most dog owners have! We just keep a beady eye on Watson and use the leave it command when we can - the trick is to not sound panicked otherwise that makes them think the item is all the more exciting!
      Best of luck and I hope this helps. Karen x

    Hi your video has really helped me today. Im going to try the sivomixx probiotic and the honeys that you reccommend. Cooper is currently on purina hyoerallergenic dry and wet but he wont eat the wet and it has cost a fortune as ive bought a tray. He is on steroids and cobaplex vitimen b12 and folic acid suppliment and logic probiotic but last night terrible diarreah all through the night. I have vet appointment at 2pm today. He is lethargic. I was wondering how much your colonoscopy cost. I live in glasgow. I dont have much money but im desperate for a diefinate dagnosis, the vet is saying ibd they have tested for giardia, done imagining, taken bloods so its not epi. His levels are ok but protein low and folic acid low. Thank you for sharing its great to here there is light at the end of the tunnel. Cooper my dog is a 6 yr male collie shep x. He is obseesed by his ball. I thought tgat may be causing adrenaline which could cause the diarreah. Sometimes i get the first poo solid then diarreah. Yes often the poo is barely formed and then diarreah and the smell is not good either. I will try what you recommend cheers clare

    • @TheBeautyMaverick
      @TheBeautyMaverick Рік тому

      Aww Clare bless you, its so nice that you are trying so hard to get Cooper well! The colonoscopy was expensive (a thousand at least) and honestly it was awful as you have to starve them for 2 days then leave them at the hospital for 3 days. I'm not sure now if it was worth it as yes he's been diagnosed with IBD but there isn't any specific treatment for it, I found it all myself! I would recommend first trying RAW food if you can, I bet that will be a huge success to start with. The Sivomixx is hard to get hold of now sadly, I order mine from Italy and its about £40. I would also give Buscopan (though bear in mind I'm not a vet) but this slows down the gut and gives them some pain relief. x

      Hi thank you for your reply. I tried to get simovix but it was over 87 pounds. I seen that it came from italy and because of brexit they were no longer shipping. So i got vivomixx it was lot cheaper. Do you think this one will be ok. Also what do you think of feeding him organic goat kifir as a possible alternaive? Ive also ordered honeys just the venison as they reccommended one novel protein at a time. I told them i got there name from you on utube. Fingers crossed this works its coming tomorro. Thank you for the tip of buscopan i have that in my own bathroom cabinet for myself. He is still having diarreah. I phoned the vet in tears yesterday i had been up three times during the night and couldnt get back to sleep so id been up all night. They wanted to give me increased dose of steroids but the lesser dose just made him pee a lot and still diarriah so i dont know im reluctant to give high steroid dose. Fingers crossed for the vivomixx and honeys and buscopan. I also bought some arsenicum 30c and diatomaceous earth as dr andrew jones on utube reccommends this for diarreah. Can i ask do u think the colonoscopy gave you peace of mind. As i think for me it could be because i keep wondering why has he just developex this a year and two months ago. When we moved to glasgow from galashiels. Lastly how is Watson now. Is he still ok? Big hug Clare x

    Hey my dogs coming up to 3 he’s a husky and the vets believe he has this disease as well. They want to introduce him to steroids possibly. We feed him the hypoallergenic as well and they want to introduce him to cobalaplex with it. As he’s 3 and never had raw food is it possible to still introduce the honeys??? Also what is your opinion on the steroid treatment. Sorry for all the questions .

    • @TheBeautyMaverick
      @TheBeautyMaverick 3 роки тому +1

      Hi, please don't worry about questions - I'm always happy to help if its helps a dog in any way :0) So sorry to hear your husky has this too :0(
      Firstly on RAW food - it can be introduced at any time in a dogs life yes, its so natural that you don't even need to do the slow changeover that you have to do with kibble etc. I would say that if you are just starting, no need to sign up to honeys - go to Pets at home and buy a bag of their ready made frozen chunks - its only a few pounds and you can see what flavours he likes and if he'll eat it and how his digestion is.
      Regarding steroids, I'm not a fan of them BUT I know they work really well for some dogs. For Watson they didn't help and for all dogs they increase appetite which is really hard when they are limited on what they can eat. Kev and I were discussing last night what we think are the key things that's improved his digestion - one is RAW food for dinner and the an allergenic kibble for breakfast , then also not giving him treats or food that are above 15% fat, and the probiotic powder and tablets - they are amazing and I'd highly recommend them - these are the capsules - it doesn't take long for them to arrive and we haven't paid any further charges - natprod.store/product/sivomixx-30-caps/
      Hope this helps! Let me know. x

      Yes he was neutered before we got him, something that happens at 8 weeks old with Australian labradoodles. What kind of tooth paste do you use? I asked my vet what do I do when her tooth paste is a stomach irritant? They literally said: just use the brush that’s enough
    I was like “ummm what? Are you sure? How will that help? Yorkies have the WORST teeth”
    Then I go back 6 months later the vet is saying “she needs another dental cleaning” she had one a year and a half ago!
    I’m like YOUR STAFF TOLD ME that only the brush is enough! Now if I might of figured out what toothpaste worked for her 6 months ago her teeth wouldn’t be as bad as they are now!!!
    And the food my vet said “hills science i/d prescription dry dog food is “junk food” but it’s like “humans because the medicine isn’t always good for humans but you give it anyways”
    I said “what?! I don’t rely on my MEDICATIONS for my main source of sustenance! It is NOT the same thing”
    So I need to switch vets when I can because I feel like he purposely left out knowledge to keep Daisy coming back for expensive and risky tooth cleanings. Like wtf

      Wow, you aren't being given the best treatment are you! So sorry :0( We had to stop using the toothpaste (chicken liver one by Virbac) when Watsons tummy was bad and did just use a toothbrush as that will get a lot of plaque off, better than nothing. I do kind of get what the vet was saying although it sounds like it wasn't presented very well. Watson is on Royal Canin Anallergenic in the morning and hubby and I did NOT want to give it to him. However, food can be medicine and this is the case with the RC for us. Best of luck, you clearly care a lot for Daisy, its lovely to hear. x

    Google "gabapentin scam". Its an anticonvulsant given off label for pain and that is a scam. Pfizer has been sued and paid millions for their fakery. It is prescribed on word of mouth by doctors and now vets. It does not work for pain beyond placebo.
