  • Congratulations to Grant Martin Scruggs for coordinating another successful SSBD event in German & Carston Scheuler for hosting the highly successful event at his hotel www.schladitzerhof.de
    This was the 3 days Intensive Summer Camp held between the 22nd to 24th June 2012 in Rackwitz, Leipzig, Germany.
    Thank you to the German SSBD family for promoting the event. It is overwhelming for me (in a good way) that everyone that I meet are passionate about SSBD, none of this would have been possible without everyones efforts, no matter how small. THANK YOU.
    Thank you also to ALL who traveled from all over Germany and abroad - Czech Republic, Slovakia, UK, South Afica & Hong Kong; whom all are highly respected, knowledgeable & super skilled in thier own arts. Thank you for your support & friendship, it is truely an honor & priviledge for me.
    BRUNEIAN MARTIAL HERITAGE
    This seminar like my other events aims primarily to raise the curiosity and awareness among people from different nationalities about the martial heritage and culture of Brunei Darussalam in general.

    Agree, also, most of the stuff about Silat is transferable, or usefull. His movements are very fluid and natural, you could adapt Silat to anything.

    You got that right, however, i'd be much more sacred to fight a Silat trained fighter who's holding a knife, than being assaulted by a gun in my head(something i've already been through). In other words, i would have alot more chances to stay alive against some fool with a gun, than fighting a silat fighter armed with knifes or even worse.

    It scares me even to think someone using Silat with that long blade in real life. Even in "good hands" it's scary, and in the wrong hands...
    I think some martial arts should be REALLY picky in choosing who they teach their techniques, maybe having some work references, or been able to prove if they dont have felonies in their past.
    I know it sounds crazy, but this are crazy and dangerous as hell techniques too.

      Thing is, you don't need these to know how to kill, everybody can kill, grab a sharp knife from you kitchen, a brick, knowing this won't make you a murderer,
      I haven't done silat, but I imagine that it is like a lot of other deadly martial arts, where you won't simply learn to kill without understanding why and in which situations

    I don't get what he's talking about with the kick to the balls. Why isn't it doing anything to him? Also, what's the reasoning behind that drag-back with the kick he's doing?

    • @dragonniz
      @dragonniz 6 років тому +6

      from my understanding he's saying those who practice this branch of the silat & other kuntau arts, they train to handle kicks to the balls.
      And that's the reason why when they deliver a kick to the balls it's always done with that pulling action - coz the function of the kick isn't to just hurt the balls rather it's a setup for other attacks.

      100% as long as the art you train in is not just a watered down sport for the weak

    At 3:35 abouts, what is the difference in the first few punches and the one that works? I couldn't make out what he said he is doing on the last one that is the change.

    • @Theidmet
      @Theidmet 8 років тому +6

      +John Leggett He turned the line of his knuckles to be horizontal instead of vertical. The idea being that when your knuckles are vertical, the impact will be spread across 3-4 ribs. However when he turned his fist along the line of the ribs (horizontal) he was impacting primarily 1-2 ribs, effectively doubling the amount of pain and possible damage.
      Apparently there is also some sort of muscle or nerve response involved that he is aiming for, perhaps involving the response to compression of the rib cage. The turning of the fist is definitely the mechanic, though.

    transferable to what, may I ask? As Bruce said 40 yrs ago...take what is useful and leave the rest. All arts have pieces of all other arts in them. Why wouldnt a circular art be able to use linear strikes or a jui-jitsu type art be able to use Silat footwork? My opinion as a beginner is that if you have an art where something is not transferable to it, it may not be the right art for you. Anyone agree?

      My father told me when I was 12, study as many Martial Arts as you can, train at least one or two belts, then move on, in the end with your 5-10 Yellow Belts, you will be able to defeat an average Sport black belt with ease.

      Aman Yamani silat is for protecting family where your enemies may carry weapons to kill you. Connor train for sport where the rules are there to score points. No body dies if they lose. We train for differen goals.
      In the ring he will knock anyone out. On the streets someone could be carrying a sharp weapon with intention to harm and kill, its a different scenario.

      almost all the moves maul has would be illegal. theres a reason silats olahraga is only kicks and punches to the torso and take downs

      Would you mind explaining why the kick to the balls didn't cause you problems in the video? It looked like the guy was kicking you dead-on. Did you somehow retract them? I've heard of people being able to do that, but now how- only how to get them down if kicked in.
