Great class, Professor. I was so excited to see Kovalenko score his first Sharks goal. And when Celebrini scored, our whole family screamed as if we were at the tank. Go Sharks!
Hey Professor, Solid effort for 60 minutes both teams trading jabs. It is games like tonight when you can catch a glimpse of what is in store for Sharks fans as the team begins to refashion itself into a play off contender and beyond. I really like the "Hoby Line" with the 3 youngsters. In just their second game together they seem to be finding some chemistry. I thought all 3 of these players looked pretty good tonight. The thing that stuck out to me tonight was the improved team defense featured by the Sharks. Sure you can find moments where the defensive game lapsed but, as I said before the other team has good players too and sometimes those guys make a good play as well. In a back and forth game where both teams played pretty hard for most of the night there were moments where each team was able to execute and beat each others defense but, the game was a tight affair for almost the whole 60 minutes until the Sharks picked up that late game winning goal by Ceci. Yaroslav again looked great. Really keeping us in this game and giving us a chance to win. I thought over all this was another of a handful of games this year where the Sharks played a pretty consistent, high energy game for 60 minutes. We have only seen this type of effort in something like 3 games this year but, when it happens it is VERY encouraging as we see a snap shot of what may be to come? Peter Clovis, CA
Yeah, considering the opponent, this was a pretty good outing and win. The defense has been surprisingly solid these last two games in some tough spots.
Askarov is the new starter of the team. Unless he falls off, you CANNOT send him back down. I want to draft Schaeffer as much as everyone else, but building a winning culture is way more important. If Askarov is so good that we draft 5-7th, so be it. The team clearly trusts him more than the other goalies, and you’re sending a horrible message to the team if you don’t play him
The message part is definitely true, imagine being stuck in front of Georgiev when you have Askarov waiting in the wings. It’s a tough call for the team for sure.
Yah plus if we draft 5-7 we can grab v. Eklund which i think would be cool. I think he has been very impressive, and has looked good at world juniors despite being much younger than most of his team
I want to start off by saying great work on these post game assignments. Would you give askarov the starting role. It ups our chances to win by like double he has been amazing. But wouldn’t It hurt the tank pretty bad?
Respectfully, you guys realize the team isn’t tanking right? Tanking means trying to be bad. The team is now trying to be good (but still bad). Another top 3 pick would be great, but we have plenty of good prospects and need to focus on ending the rebuild
You’re 100% right, I use the words “hurt the tank” just as a way of saying that it will lower their draft position. By the moves Grier made this offseason, it is definitely true that they are trying to be much better than last year. Having said that though, I’m sure Grier was well aware that the team would still be bad and was likely planning for that too. I think considering this could be the Sharks final year with a real chance at last place, it’s fair to consider the paths to get there.
@@hoochiemantwinkletoes yeah in lockstep with what the professor said. They were clearly trying to be better with the moves they made. Things haven’t gone as planned we are essentially in last place and do not look like we are going to make to playoffs. Idk how the Blackwood trade isn’t a sign we could be trying to tank. He was one of our more consistent players to start the year.
Its not that they are trying to tank its just that we were going to lose him for nothing and we were able to get good value. I think we should be tryig to be as good as we can be without giving up future assets, and would gladly move from last place to somewhere in the bottom ten if it is on the backs of our important future players like askarov celibrini, snith, and eklund.
Another great effort by Team Teal..a real team win with everyone pitching in. Askarov in particular had another really strong game, as he did vs Tampa Bay earlier this week. But I wonder if the Professor would be willing to comment about Askarov's puck-handling ability. Several times vs TBL and at least once today he seemed to hold onto the puck a second too long and created a precarious situation, though in all cases he bailed himself out of them. Am I imagining this or is this an area he'll need to work on?
There are occasionally some heart attack moments when he plays the puck that’s for sure. However, the value that a strong puck handling goaltender brings cannot be overstated. I think right now, the team isn’t fully ready for the puck handling that he brings, and I would say it’s up to the team to get on the same page as him instead of trying to limit Askarov.
It is honestly hilarious watching him play the puck, he is a madman out there. Feels like he is good at it, but maybe too over confident? I swear i saw him toe drag someone a few games ago
2 questions not related to the game but just the sharks in general: How long, in your opinion, until Bystedt comes up to the Sharks? Have you heard anything about Chernyshov's return from surgery to join the Saginaw Spirit?
Bystedt I’m thinking next year maybe, 26-27 at the latest (assuming he makes the jump). Chernyshov started skating recently, I believe he is hoping to return to play sometime this month.
SO - once Vanacek is healthy, isn't Askarov the only one they can send down? Do they carry three goalies and not start Fourgiev? And when Sturm returns, isn't Graf the only forward that can be sent down? Kovalenko is the obvious choice for 2nd line once Sturm is back on the 4th.
I honestly dont care if they wave either of those guys their value is less than a 3rd round pick rn probably and georgiev may well be negative value. As long as askarov is playing well, sending him down is not worth the message it will send to him and the rest of the team. Maybe if he puts together a bad run of games you can do it but otherwise i hope not
It’s looking more and more like Goodrow is not putting forth 100% and seems unhappy and unable to motivate himself. I was hoping he would get over what happened but he’s on almost the worst team now so any hopes for another SC run for him are done. And Warso seems bound to keep him in the lineup no matter what. Bummer.
He will be sent back down, this isnt what Askarov has to prove. Its clearly a buisness decision and the Cuda succeeding plays a huge part in that. If the Sharks were better, maybe in the playoff hunt, then yes he would stay up in the show. Cuda winning some games is a financial must, ownership having 2 losing franchises isnt going to cut it monetary wise. They have been losing a lot of money in recent years. So if the Sharks arent going to win, need to lean on the Cuda this year. I think Grier has made it clear to some of the younger players like Askarov, next year is their year.
This is a good argument for it, but to play devils advocate here, speaking to the financial reasons, it would be a tough sell to fans of the Sharks to get them to come to games and watch Vanecek and Georgiev fumble about. Askarov gives the Sharks some competitive games, which is what fans love, even in losses. It’s a really tough call for Grier, I think both decisions have this pros and cons.
Kovalenko's becoming one of my more well-liked players. He's very tradeable too if we want to go that route, but I'd be happy if he sticks around. As a completely unrelated fact, I find Timo Meier's all-time stats funny - 205 goals and 205 assists exactly.
The crowd went crazy when askarov came out as the #1 star I love this keeper
He’s a fun guy, great personality
@@professorhockeyIn Askarov we Trust!

That was a fun game to watch today, great analysis as always Professor!

Sad to have missed this game, but thankful I can rely on a Professor Hockey video to fill me in! Great review as per usual :-)
Always here!
Good work brother! Go🦈s!
What happened to timo time? Great job professor on the analysis.
He respects the Sharks too much to score on them clearly.
@@professorhockey That's definitely it. He even scored for them last time in Jersey.
Excellent forecheck today.

It would absolutely hurt the tank, I think Georgiev will play more often than he actually deserves over the rest of the year.
Respectfully, you guys realize the team isn’t tanking right? Tanking means trying to be bad. The team is now trying to be good (but still bad). Another top 3 pick would be great, but we have plenty of good prospects and need to focus on ending the rebuild

askarov belief is blooming. missed call on cotter drives him to score the goal and swap hobey line with lund line next game.

@professorhockey thank you! I was wondering if you thought might be a chance he comes up if we move Granlund
Depends how many players get moved, there’s certainly a chance he gets a look later
Looks like they wanted to win again. If the glove is on the wrong hand then the Sharks are in it to win it.

They could send others down, they just would have to go through waivers
Askarov was taken 11th and the highest drafted Russian goalie. He might cost Sharks a top draft pick. Wonder how much does Grier want to play him.
I think they might lay off Askarov a little bit later on, he will go down to the barracuda to play there
It’s looking more and more like Goodrow is not putting forth 100% and seems unhappy and unable to motivate himself.
