  • In this episode of Lowrider Roll Models, we meet Miguel Alatorre--a veteran combat engineer having served 5 tours of duty in the U.S. Army and a member of Klique Car Club in San Diego. He shares how he came to be in possession of his 1959 Chevrolet Impala and his love for cruising the streets of San Diego en route to Chicano Park. Miguel also describes his harrowing experience on the battlefield, how lowrider culture helped him find himself and rekindle time lost with loved ones. These days, he's channeling his efforts to serve his fellow servicemen by defining new ways for how they can engage with their local community via the local VFW. Miguel is a shining example of what it means to be a true Lowrider Roll Model.

Miguel, thank you for serving our country. Especially after all that you went through as a young man, trying to be there for your family! And it is AMAZING to see that you are not only there for your family but also for your brothers and sisters in arms. Takes a lot to do what you do, Sir. Blessings to you and your loved ones!

Speedy Speedy same, my dad had one and I remember cruising in it when I was younger, then I eventually moved on to Japanese domestic market cars, when I get a stable job I'm getting a 48 fleetline for sure

Thank you for your service. Without route clearance and combat engineers in general there would've been a lot more casualties. Your importance in the removal of roadside bombs will not be forgotten by some of us. Whether you agree with the politics of war or not does not change the fact that this man did an honorable job and for anyone who says otherwise can go play with IED's .

For all the people bitching about the episodes not being 100% about cars: the series is called lowrider roll models (play-on of role models), which is to show that not all lowriders are criminals or thugs, but that many are normal car enthusiasts, who have normal jobs, and even go the extra mile to help others out, not unlike many car enthusiasts of different flavors of automotive enthusiasm.

I think I get it now. Thanks for helping to offset the negative stereotypes. A man doesn't build a car like that and put so much attention into the details if he doesn't have respect for himself. That is what pushes people to greatness, believing in themselves and taking on big problems.

I remember the day I sat in a 1959 Chevy for the first time. I was 14 years old and my friend from school's father owned a Chevrolet dealership. It was the day before the grand announcement of the new 1959 Chevrolet. Back in the day, it was a big deal to hide the new models til the end of the year and make a big production of the showing of the new car. It was hidden in a barn near the dealer. When we opened the door and I looked at that car, it was like, "Wow", this car looks like a spaceship or an airplane at least. So exciting. Has always been my favorite Chevy.

I'm a Lowrider model myself... been threw it all.... owning a lowrider was just a dream of mine I thought to my self because of the circumstances that it would be impossible for me to own one... now I own a 87 el camino 3 pumps 8 batteries, I own a nice house, been happily married going on 8 years got a beautiful family and a great job... lowriding is what keeps me in the same path I'm on now.....

Great story! Beautiful car and I'm glad there is an upside. Some of the comments make me sick but others make me proud too. These vets have given so much and many continue to suffer and all have sacrificed in ways that most cannot imagine so if you can't find or say something nice about that, then just move along. Don't feed the trolls.

Along with Arizona, New Mexico, and Colorado. So Mexican's didn't invade the US. In fact, it was the opposite.
