Your tutorials are great, as many people have said. I now believe a Welsh accent should be the universal tutorial approach! This one particularly deserves a comment because although it could be editing, I've never seen anyone talk for 50 minutes straight and still be just as enthusiastic as when they started!
Great work, the skip to section in the video description is an especially good idea.

finding your channel is the best thing that has happened to me in 2020 and i believe better things are on the way. You are so good. For the 57 folks that dislike the video, all i have to say is that they need help because explaining adobe illustrator cant be simpler than this. Thank you for the effort. God bless you.

I've been taking these lessons one by one over the past couple weeks and I woke up this morning feeling grateful, and excited. I took an Illustrator course 10 years ago in Uni, and had a rather unhelpful teacher. I learned a few bad habits, and never really had a complete understanding of many important basic features of the program. Picking up this course many years later and with a really thorough and explanatory course has really helped fill in the gaps and gives me a new lease on this program, and I'm really looking forward to everything I can do with it. Many many thanks, this is amazing content, and I will use all these skills with joy and pleasure.

Before you look at the length of this video and think, I know how to do this now, I don't need to follow the video....... think again. That's what I did and I thought I did a pretty good job of tracing the skull, I'll admit, mostly with the pen tool. I was proud. Then, I watched this video. Now I'm going to start again and do it properly!

Yeah, this is probably one of the most important in the course. You really need to see how intricate the process is here, and how to use the pen tool to do something like this.
After it though I hope it helps!
Just imagine how long it was to produce! I remember this one being a right mission!
Worth it in the end though! 😀

@@GarethDavidStudio You must have the patience of a saint! It does help a lot, though I wish I were a bit better at using the pen and anchor point tools! My linework looks nowhere near as neat as yours :')

Thank you David for providing a detailed tutorial on Adobe Illustrator. It is indeed a complete beginners guide. I now feel much confident trying out new stuff. I have also completed the After Effects tutorial and almost done with Photoshop. Thank you for putting out such quality content and making it possible for a novice like me to understand the basics. Best tutorial I have come across on design/digital content. My time during lockdown has been definitely well spent!

I've found a way to replicate the inside content an position it in a perfect way. Just set two guides on the center, choose the inside elements that you want to reflect and copy and paste them in the exact place (you can do this by clicking ctrl+c and ctrl+shift+v, as Gareth teach us).
Then chose the reflect element (O). With the new elements pasted selected an the reflect element active set the reference point in the middle (by clicking on the middle of the document; or better, in the middle of the skull) and then click with the mouse on the document and press shift in order to do a reflection of -90°.
That's it. Sorry for the explanation I was just following the tutorial and have the idea to find a reference point in order to make the reflection more easy, just find it so wanted to share it with you ;)
Thanks for the tutorials, this is a great lesson.

There's a lot of things you do that I react upon when I've followed your tutorials so far. Making the eye socket is easier using the ellipse tool and then manipulating the curve handles than making 4 points with the pen tools and then curving them using the anchor tool.
When you make the heart shape, it is logical to only do one half and then mirror it. But the overlapping anchor points at the bottom are simply not removed by using the direct selection tool. It's better to join the two shapes together and then use the Delete Anchor Point tool.
Thank you for your hard work.

The whole tutorial is great! Small remark. In the video we use reflect to draw the other half of the outline (7:30 min in video). I had problem combining the two halves, since they didn´t fit nicely together. However later in the video (25:47 min) you use pen tool to connect the anchor points and that is very useful. My idea is that you could mention this trick with pen tool already at the beginning, when we combine both halves. That would be even more helpful.

By using Anchor point tool or Direct selection tool (once the curve's been made) on the line between 2 anchor points(AP) rather than on AP itself, you can make curve to the line in whatever shape you want. It behaves like if you drag two handles of 2 AP at the same time. And this will save both time and nerves.

Method used to "join" points is hinky! Better to move them together (overlap is best), Direct Select, Object>Path>Average, Object>Path>Join. That way you end up with a single point. Otherwise, pretty good tut.
