  • Take a close look at a common arrangement of springs. A block is pulled in opposite directions by two springs. As the block is displaced from equilibrium the force by one spring increases and the force by the other spring decreases.
    The proof that the springs are in parallel comes from looking at the graph of the force vs position curves of the springs which can be produced using each springs 'spring constant'. Recognizing that each spring starts at equilibrium, the force by one spring increases, and the other decreases when the block is pushed in one direction.
    Ultimately this puts the spring combination in parallel even though the springs may appear to be in series.
    This problem commonly comes up in introductory mechanics courses such as high school physics, AP Physics 1, AP Physics C, A Level Physics, and the JEE Mains.

    Damn, I wish your channel would have been more popular. You’re helping me to prepare for my matura exam (this problem was on one!). Thank you sooo muchh!

    I'm here just to say THANK YOU!! your videos helped me pass my physics class. :) I love how neat and organized you examples are. I found this channel very useful. On that note that is... ;)

    Hey, i Discovered your channel with the Sprockets and Chains video and that trully helped me with a problem i'm having, but i'm still Lost..
    I'm Trying to understand how Camera Dolly Systems work so that i can build one myself, It involves a Differential wich is used to get Correct Geometrical Steering on the wheels (Kinda like the Ackermann Steering) But i'm completelly lost as to how it Phisically functions..
    Do you have any idea of where i would be able to Find recources to understand how that works, or if you've ever / will ever do a video on the subject ?
    Any answer would be great, have a great Day.

      Ironically (given I make UA-cam vids), I have no experience filming anything other than a page. Sorry!

      @@INTEGRALPHYSICS it's not about the filming part, in the dolly there is a Differential that extends / offsets to change the ratio of sprockets turning, like the ackermann steering.
      No whories

    Sir how to approach correctly a three dimentional resistance arrangement problems ?

      If you can't get that thing redrawn in 2d, I'd lean hard on Delta-Y conversions.

      @@INTEGRALPHYSICSA cylinder of mass M length I and radius r is thrown from a height h vertically towards the ground. After hitting the ground it loses energy E due to dissipative forces and it jumps while rotating about its horizontal axis and gets landed perfectly in vertical position. Find the minimum height h for it to complete one full rotation? {Neglect the energy losses due to air drag And neglect the height attained after jump}
