    Excellent teaching... as usual. May even try doing this myself as my switches/ boxes are 20+ years old.

    Very nice.
    You have a gift for 'visuals', which is very helpful for us newbies.
    (Everything seems doable, with visuals and good instructions.)

    That’s an old Bakelite box. Not sure when they first started using it but in the 1940’s it was common for a lot of things including the bodies of those old fancy radios and so on. Pretty cool.

      yeah all my ceiling fixtures are bakelite in my 1985 mobile home, they are brittle and all the holes strip really easy

    Thanks for the video. Any time I replace or install a new box, I always use the largest one. Not much price difference, but makes things so much easier.

    Well done! I’m going to install a new ceiling fan, and take advantage of a wall switch that currently operates an outlet(which I’ll delete and use that power to drive the new fan. I’ll be using a double switch to operate the fan/ light. A deeper box with wago’s is the way to go(no pun intended) also the volt claw is necessary to achieve this operation.

    Awesome... I did this to my 1960's home. It looked intimidating but was able to do it after watching this.

    Excellent video for DIYers. I've got to get that push-pull tool. Thanks for the link. I usually use a wooden dowel with a cutout recess on one end or a pair of long nose players. I use a grinder to remove most of the serrations and grind recesses in the arms to hold the wires. Your tool is much better. Besides using a deeper workbox, I get one with an extra switch cutout. I would use a four-switch box in your video to give me more room to work in. A solid cover plate would be used to cover the unused switch cutout.

    I heard of the wago connectors before, but never tried them myself. The next time I do anything sparky related I might try them out.

    Thanks for the video! Question about the end section- you show how all lines are in Wago connectors, the grounds, neutrals, and hit wires. But in same view there are the three back wires with the blue tape just floating - were those 3 lines then to be connected to each of the switches? It’s the little things… if you see this and can comment, thanks for your help!

    I've been through that TOO many times -- I've been doing electrical repairs for more than 60 years starting when I was a teenager 'assisting' my journeyman electrician father. I've just started using Wago connectors recently and they are close to a miracle -- I'm considering trashing all of my small wirenuts. I was unable to see what sort of screwdriver you were using on the switch terminals but it didn't look like any that I have. Can you please let us know exactly what it was? Thanks.

    I can see why there would be 4 cables, one for the power and 3 for the switch legs, but what is the fifth cable for? You were unclear about how you managed the ground wires. If there are 5 ground wires plus the 3 pigtails to each switch, you would need 2 full 5 position Wago's including a jumper connecting the two. Please clarify that, thanks again.

    • @FixThisHouse
      @FixThisHouse  Рік тому +1

      Hi! You are correct Ted, I used 2 full position WAGO sand used a jumper to connect the 2.
      Thank you for clarifying this 👍🏽🙏🏽😊

      @Fraxter3813 Місяць тому

      Good question. Only thing about ground was to put them all together then connect to wagos. What’s a jumper? Again, if these are for DIYers this kind of stuff that seems basic is not to us! Thanks for doing this! I’m going to watch the other video you suggested. Love your videos!

    Looking for advice. Ceiling fan install. All wire is 14-2.
    Existing hot cable in. 3 sets of 14-2 cable that are from 3-single pole switches. Why is it popping when I connect all black and all white??
