Tbf, didn’t the canes give him a 6 mil per year contract? That’s still too much for a guy that averages 0.42 PPG and is very inconsistent

I been telling people about Kotkaniemi all year and nobody believes it. Kid is a beast. He's putting up almost the same offensive numbers as Sebastian Aho over the last 40+ games, AND he hits everything in sight, AND he wins faceoffs, AND he can throw fisticuffs, AND he's learning how to play defensively from Jordan Staal. When he's 25 years old he's going to be the NHL prototype 2C, if not more.

The Canes bottom half are the difference thus far. Those guys are work horses. Neces has 2 goals in 8 games and looks like he is just floating around half the time. If the top lines start achieving as expected, the Canes will be a force to beat. This team is one of the most successful teams in the league, yet virtually ignored by all the talking heads in the NHL. I hope the Canes give them a lot to talk about over the next few weeks. Great game, Canes

I appreciate the devils not taking the cheap shots the isles were when they were losing. Relatively clean series so far.
I'm not giving into the hopeium. They still need two more wins. We are a much better team defensively than the rangers are, but these series can tilt on a dime. Trying to remember these things don't necessarily follow scripts. Anything can happen, including this team with an entire top line lost injury going all the way.

Last night watching those guys play again that hard with 3 top scorers out almost brought me to tears. The Devils came out well 1st period, but then just fell apart. My gut is suspecting fatigue as the reason because the way the schedule worked out we got zero rest between the Rangers and the Canes whereas the Canes were fresh off a 5 day rest. This team has played WAY better then this all season long and even turned it up against the Rangers so I am hoping that they find that next gear.

    • @demandrecords

I‘d agree with that. It seems not scoring first goal is a mental block for the devils. After 2:0 the game was pretty much done. Also I think I saw Marino twice on situations as last man playing way to offensively - generally speaking I feel like their D tried to get something working/playing more risky which in turn allowed the canes to do their transition game.
Meier is what now? 30 shots on goal - still hasn’t scored, that is not sustainable. If I were the Canes I‘d still be scared because Jarvis, Kotkaniemi & Noesen, are not J Hughes, Meier & Bratt. One good game, boosting confidence, can make it look very differently.
