I love Journey. I remember going to arcades as a kid and getting so excited when I would see a journey machine. I remember going to the Jersey shore and finding an arcade that had a tabletop model of the Journey game.

I have never seen a Journey arcade machine in person, but had "Journey Escape" for the Atari 2600 around the same early 80's time frame. John, you're so right about Journey being a big part of 80's music... at least here in Canada in addition to your experience... these guys were huge.

That Journey game is great, I've been a fan of their music for a long time. Didn't even know they had an arcade until I saw yours.

The designers’ names (and co-founders of Incredible Technologies) are Richard and Elaine Ditton.
IT also developed the operating system for Data East Pinball/Sega Pinball’s pre-Whitestar hardware, which was a copy of Williams’s System 11 hardware.

Wow, beautiful machine. I read about this game in a ~1990 issue of Nintendo Power, and in that same issue they said a Nintendo game was being developed for both New Kids on the Block (they called them "this generation's Beatles") and Vanilla Ice, but as far as I know those games never got released. I guess it was because the shelf life for those two acts expired on New Years Day 1991 pretty much, lol.

I played a Journey back in '86 and I believe it had a 4-way joystick. Recently, I played some Journey in mame using 4-way and 8-way controls, I must say that I had much more success and enjoyed playing with 8-way controls.

Maybe you could do a joint video with your buddy Tim, sad to hear about anyone that loses their love for their hobby. It comes to us all but you always end up coming out the tunnel the other side. Share the love John, friends are there to pick each other up. Even if you can do a link-up video if travel is a problem, i know the US is a huge place.

I enjoy playing this game on MAME, but I would love to play it in arcade one day! I know, very few of them were made, but a guy can dream, right? I've played Baby Pac-Man and Professor Pac-Man in arcades, so maybe I'll luck out one day. The songs in this game are all from Infinity, Escape and Frontiers, and they are as follows:
The stage select screen plays "Lights" from Infinity.
Steve Smith's stage plays "Wheel in the Sky" from Infinity.
Ross Valory's stage plays "Keep On Runnin'" from Escape.
Jonathan Cain's stage plays "Stone In Love" from Escape.
Steve Perry's stage plays "Don't Stop Believin'" from Escape.
Neil Schon's stage plays "Chain Reaction" from Frontiers.
The bonus round and the attract mode play "Separate Ways (Worlds Apart)". I've seen also that there is an option in the bookkeeping menu of the game where the tape player can be set to play all through the attract mode as opposed to a few seconds' worth, but that would wear it out faster, and plus it would diminish the novelty, which you don't want.
The bezel, control panel, and side art are also based on Frontiers, which makes sense since that album had just come out when this game was made. Journey is my favorite band of all time, so to see and play an arcade machine of this gqame would be a dream come true.

I found a Journey at Game Galaxy in Antioch, TN, and the tape player works! So awesome! For a time I had the high score on it, but someone beat me score. Maybe one day I will take it back.

    • @ThunderFist1978
      @ThunderFist1978 Рік тому

It’s a bit less obvious, but when you die in this game, the song you hear is “Who’s Crying Now” from Escape. That’s funny to me honestly.

For those of you wondering what all of the Journey songs are in this game for each of the levels, they are:
Steve Perry - Don’t Stop Believin’
    Neal Schon - Chain Reaction
Ross Valory - Keep On Runnin’
Jonathan Cain - Stone In Love
Steve Smith - Wheel In The Sky
    Planet Select Screen - Frontiers
    Losing a Life - Who’s Crying Now
    Planet Clear - Lights

"Oh my god, what are you doing?!" *Neal Schon falls to his death at the hands of John* "Oh my god, uh ..." 28:23 John's little freakout cracked me up for some reason, maybe because he seemed so confident at the start, this being one of the easier levels. lol
I was surprised this game came out in 1983. For some reason I was thinking late 80's and because the graphics looked so good (I didn't know the band members well enough, obviously) and I don't recall a lot of games having digitized graphics in the 80s, when I think digitized graphics, I think Mortal Kombat.
That was a fun look, John!

Lol, the photographic heads of the band members look like they were edited on, like in a UA-cam Poop or something. Kind of hard to believe the actual machine is running in 512x480 in 1983, considering so many of the game's graphics don't take advantage of this extra resolution from what I presume to be hardware limitations.

I think their albums had some success in the UK, with "Escape" and "Raised on Radio" making the Top 40 album chart, and "Frontiers" reaching number 6.
They also had limited success in the singles chart, with "Don't Stop Believing" and "Who's Cryin' Now" both failing to break the Top 40. Then along came _Glee_. The cast version reached number 2, while Journey's original version reached a new peak of number 6 following Joe McElderry's performance of the song as a contestant on the sixth series of _The X Factor_ (he eventually won the series).

So cant watch videos in 720p and 1080p as it is let alone at 60fps. Ive got 100mb connection but my new ISP Virgin Media throttle you tube beyond use through their own cacheing servers. Not worth watching in anything lower. Sorry John your 60fps has killed my viewing. Anyone else subscribed to this channel having the same issue in UK with VM? I upgraded so i could watch my favourite channels in HD aswell. Gutted.

If you use Mozilla or IE it will play at 30FPS. That's a real bummer!

    • @craiggilchrist4223
      @craiggilchrist4223 9 років тому

I know yeah, tried both of them but its my ISP thats throttling and cacheing no matter what i use. People in the UK who use Virgin Media are in uproar here. Richard Branson the bearded shit. lol. Good of you to send that Sennheiser wireless mike back to that guy John, i use them on stage all the time and they aint bad but you do need a wireless one. Get yourself a shed load of 9v batteries. Constantly picking up dead batteries on stage after a gig. The joys of being a Sound Engineer.

craig gilchrist Good luck, Craig! Sorry about your ISP. The mic I picked up uses AA batteries. And, yeah... I realize know this thing is gonna burn through them. One more thing to lug around.

Already tried that and a few other VPN systems to no avail. I was getting a better stream using ADSL at 7mb connection because my old ISP wasnt throttling or trying to cache you tube to save money on bandwidth.

John - I love your channel, but are you really that thirsty all the time that you can't stop drinking for 10 minutes to do your viewer mail? It's pretty annoying honestly to hear a big gulping sound mid-sentence. Much respect though, just making a suggestion. Maybe wait until between letters? Mid-sentence gulping is kind of distracting.

Sorry but the Game is bad and the band was equally Bad for me . I doubt they were big anywhere other than USA and Canada. They sold 47 Million Albums in the USA but 90 million World wide, so there was some love for them overseas, and had one Number 6 Song in the UK. That said singer Steve Perry is known everywhere

Journey is excellent! Bob Seger is excellent! And Journey has some great tunes on those first two albums when Gregg Rolie was the lead singer. Neal Schon plays a great guitar. Music is subjective of course, but you must hate classic rock. You probably love that hideous, soulless pornographic hip-hop rap shit. Now that is shit music!

The original founding lineup from 1973 consisted of Gregg Rolie (keyboards, vocals), Neal Schon (guitar), George Tickner (rhythm guitar), Ross Valory (bass) and Prairie Prince (drums).
(Prairie) Prince leaves group in 1974 to join The Tubes, and is replaced by Brit Aynsley Dunbar, then rhythm guitarist Tickner bows out just before the release of album number 1 in early 1975 to become a doctor, leaving Schon to play all the guitars until Jonathan Cain joined in 1981.
In the summer of 1977, they brought in Robert Fleischmann to be the new lead singer, but longtime Journey fans didn't like him and was ultimately dismissed three months later and replaced by, yes, Steve Perry; but his presence didn't exactly sit well with Dunbar, who was fired in 1978 (he then joined Jefferson Starship) and replaced by Steve Smith (Montrose). Keyboardist Gregg Rolie left Journey in late 1980 after the Japanese tour, and is replaced by Jonathan Cain.
