I had just moved to Alhambra Ca in 1974. I was 12 years old and met my new best friend Art. I can place myself hearing summer 63. We walked over a mile to go get the single. The 4 seasons were making a huge comeback with a string of hits. My eyes adored you was one of the best songs I ever heard. To this day they're on my ipod, and now I'm going on 63 years old.
That's Gerry Polci. He and Don Ciccone (former lead singer of the Critters) really carried them through the years when Frankie didn't have his falsetto voice.
I remember when this song came out in the 70's. I was 12 years old. The 4 seasons were still a huge influence on a new generation. That's not that easy to do. Nobody writes songs like this anymore.
Hello...Thanks for the memories🎶 Being married by December 1963 was our first Christmas together 💞 I'm a widow now but it would have been 61 years this year but my sweetheart passed away when we were married 42 years. But I still love Frankie and the 4 seasons🎶 Bye from Ohio 🌹
Just saw Frankie Valli in person at the San Jose Civic. It was on November 12th. It was my second time to see them. I had such a great time dancing 🎶 all night long. Frankie Valli is 89 years old and still going strong. What a great night it was.
I also saw him in San Jose and he was wonderful. I’m glad you got to see him. This was my first time and I loved it even if he was lip-synching I don’t care. I love him and you.
@@rosarioreside3327 no I’m not kidding. He was definitely lip-synching and that’s OK for 89 years old. It was still a wonderful night. We are very close, and I even walked up closer to look at his lips, and there were times where the microphone wasn’t even near his mouth, and he was singing in the wrong words. It was only for a few seconds, but it was obvious it’s OK. I still love them and him and it was wonderful.
Gerry Polci criminally flew under the radar with the general public as one of the greatest Vocalist Drummers.... His pitch and control here are outstanding, even without him spanking the kit.... Legendary musician.... Franki though.... That voice is iconic.... Fantastic musicians, great material.... One of the best.
I have never seen this awesome video with Dick Clark introducing The Four Seasons. My friend and Passaic High School classmate Gerry Polci is killing it on vocals and drums! We're from the great class of 1970!
All talent be it a combination of musicianship and vocal clarity, with no autotune during live performances. How many of todays so called musicians and/or singers can sing live and sound so well?
Gerry's vocals here are so raw natural, no autotune BS. Thanks man for posting,,, it's so weird because I was just reading a bunch of info on this band and watching their videos and then this popped up! UA-cam is creepin' me out...haha
A clear memory of what I remember when I was a kid at my grandparents' condo in South Pasadena, FL. Gerry Polci singing December of '63 as part of the Four Seasons act on Dick Clark's New Years Rockin' Eve, either 1975 or 1976. I was 11 (or 12) and thought it was so cool that the drummer was singing and drumming at the same time. Never will forget it.
@@josephcalitri5710 I'm not. Not only that, Valli is not an entertainer. He just stands there and sings. There is no engagement with the audience, never was. Even behind the drum kit, Gerry's full of emotion. He is enjoying what he's doing.
Some history about the song December 63 as follows....The song “December - 1963 (Oh What a Night!)” was written by Bob Gaudio and Judy Parker, with lyrics inspired by a real-life event that Gaudio experienced. In an interview with UDiscoverMusic, he revealed that he was out with a girl one night in December 1963, but they didn’t sleep together, resulting in him being “as clear-minded as he had ever been”. He said, “I kind of had this foresight and a vision of what the song could be…so it was pretty special.” Using this experience as a starting point, Gaudio and Parker wrote the lyrics to the song, which tell the story of a man reflecting on a magical night he spent with a woman in December. The Lyrics Of The Song The song begins with the iconic opening lines, “Oh what a night, late December back in ’63 / What a very special time for me / As I remember, what a night.” The lyrics go on to describe the narrator’s experience of meeting a girl and feeling an instant connection with her. As the night unfolds, he can’t help but feel that something special is happening between them. The chorus of the song features the memorable line, “Oh what a night, hypnotizin’, mesmerizing me / She was everything I dreamed she’d be / Sweet surrender, what a night.” These lyrics perfectly capture the magic of falling in love and the overwhelming feeling of being consumed by someone else. The Legacy of the Song “December - 1963 (Oh What a Night!)” went on to become one of the most popular songs of all time, inspiring countless covers and remixes. Its infectious beat and romantic lyrics have been enjoyed by generations of fans, making it a true classic in the history of pop music. But what many fans might not know is that the song’s impact goes far beyond just its musical legacy. Its success helped revitalize the career of Frankie Valli & the Four Seasons and paved the way for other acts in the world of rock & roll. As a result, “December - 1963 (Oh What a Night!)” will always hold a special place in the hearts of music lovers around the world.
.....I’d be curious to see that interview, because the official narrative of how the song came to be was that Bob wrote a song titled “December 5, 1933 (oh what a night)” which was meant as an ode to celebrate the end of Prohibition..... However his wife Judy thought it wouldn’t connect well with audience of the time, so she helped to rework the premise of the song to be what we know it as, and was partially inspired by Bob and Judy’s first meeting
Worked a show w Frankie in South Bend, IN in early 90's. It was the 1st event at the newly built Stanley Coveleski Stadium which houses the White Sox single A ball team. Set up for shows, the main hook up for power was about 70 off the field in the front parking area. A 20" pipe was installed to run cables yet the pulley system wasn't installed. I volunteered to crawl to the other side. It was a tight squeeze but I was filthy. Shortly after they were ready for Sound Check, everything was setup w the exception of Stage Power which was what I ran. Frankie arrived from Center Field in a Limo and his driver slowly took the dirt warning track around towards 3rd base. When he got just before third, the driver gunned it and turned sharply towards behind 2nd where the stage was. When he stopped he slid in the brand new sod and it pulled up against the tire. Frankie got out and I was the 1st to the car as I was running the stage. He looked at me and said you're the dirtiest stagehand I've ever seen. I said you or your driver are the dumbest Mother F'rs I've ever seen. They were given specific instructions to NOT drive on the grass. He was a Pompus Asshole. It cost the promoter almost $6000 to repair the field in time for the 1st game.
I never knew the drummer was actually singing. Still amazed. Top job. Jethro Tull back then and Journey are doing it but Man. I was a bass player that had to play football too so… it just never worked out. I was sad.
Anyone wanting to hear (and see) more of the wonderful Gerry Polci should check out: "Down the Hall" and "Silver Star" from the 70s Four Seasons. They were an underrated class act, as is Bob Gaudio.
I wrote the entire lyrics to the song "Oh What a Night" for my essay on French mercantilism on the AP European Exam back in 1995. Needless to say I scored a 1 😄.
Where did this guy Shapiro come from? For a awhile he lead the hit men with polci and Ciconne. Unfortunately Ciconne passed. Polci retired. And Lee only manages the current group as he has MS. A phenomenal group of talented musicians they were. Much more than just Frankie.
Belief or nay...it my have to do with this country not having TV then and/ or sanctions - I heard this song for the first time during my conscription - it would have been 2nd half of 76 or first half 77 - on the radio, over a weekend where we, once again, did not get pass...but could have. Reason unknown. But I did get it and it is still on the list of music stored in my mobile.
Love this song, idk call me cheesey but i love rolling stones miss you, and kiss i was made for loving you, and boz scaggs lowdown, and all these groups having their go at disco, its something inside of me that groove, the hooks, and ear candy that makes me feel good. Frankie Valli & The four seasons..... Wonderful.....
Jesus. That drummer’s voice is amazing. Completely, precisely, on key, which is very difficult. Tone very high quality as well.

The falseto voice classic

And Bob gaudio way underrated with his musical resume.
He had a great soul voice. Have you heard "Down the Hall" and "Silver Star"?
He was singing and acting in Passaic High's plays and always being so great in everything he did back then.
First time I ever heard this song that would instantly become one of my all time favorites! I remember it was Seventh grade and I stayed up to watch!
This is amazing. Timeless. And how a person can drum and sing at the same time is MADNESS. Incredible
Check out Karen Carpenter.
Check out Phil Collins.
Watch a Night Ranger show on UA-cam.
Don Henley, Levon Helm, Karen Carpenter.

Wow! Pure musical talent, no special effects. Amazing.
No auto tune and playing live..awesome!
Such a classic song. Bringing on the early 60s vibe while keeping the 70s funk.
1975 is when I became aware of them for Oh What A Night. I was a teen. Now, my favorite songs by them are from the earlier era.
That song was played on the bus the night our HS won the NC state 4A football championship.
Thanks, Four Seasons. I was stationed at Camp LeJeune 1976, when this was a hit..... we loved it. Semper Fi
One of the best live performances of these songs caught on video. Awesome!

Wow perfection.. These songs will live on forever ❤.. Great classic songs with beautiful memories 💞🎵🎶
Thank you for your comment. I think so too.
Agreed!!! You have clearly got amazing taste ❤
Polci on the kit is nothing short of excellent.
Unlike the garbage “talent” that populates music nowadays, this was REAL talent.
Dick Clark was so good at what he did.
Memories makes so many make it thru the day.....we'll worry about the night when that arrives -
Gotta love Gerry Polci❤
Loving the drummer 😊
Gerry Polci can sing rings around Valli. What a great voice.
Don’t be ridiculous
