  • A HUGE THANK YOU to the talented concept artist Erin Marantette for providing custom artwork for this episode's thumbnail and more! Find more of her work at www.artstation.com/erinmarant.... Thanks also to Chris Skaggs and Soma Games for their help in this project! Check out their amazing work on the Redwall series and more at somagames.com
Reepicheep, the brave and noble mouse is one of the most beloved talking animals in all of Narnia. While most of his story is found in Prince Caspian and The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, C.S. Lewis included his story throughout the entire Chronicles of Narnia. His origins are hinted about in the The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, and are directly tied to the resurrection of Aslan. His final scene takes place in the final scene of Narnia, in the Last Battle.
Many Thanks to the AMAZING artists who were featured in this video. Please check out their incredible portfolios and thank them for their fantastic work!

My favorite moment with Reepicheep is when he comes to the end of the world and casts away his sword. That might not seem like much but Reepicheep was a warrior through and through and was always armed. So for him to realize he had come to a place where that was no longer needed and to leave it behind was a big deal and always struck me as something very special.

And Reepicheep is certain close to Aslan's heart because He allows him to cross the water border. I also love how you narrate Reepicheep's story, like narrating a very noble warrior's life... Which I bet he is. Looking forward for more of your magical, and adventurous videos! God bless you!

As I was browsing their wares, I saw that they had plushies of Reepicheep from the Prince Caspian movie. Knowing how much I loved Narnia, my mom bought me one. I guess you could say it's life sized lol. I still have that plush to this day, and he sits on my bookshelf next to my Narnia collection.

This was really good. Voyage of the Dawn Treader is like a picture of a journey towards Heaven. Reepicheep has the longing to see Aslan's country, as a Christian has as longing for a home in Heaven.
In The Voyage of the Dawn Treader and The Silver Chair, Aslan's country has been teased. Reepicheep goes there, but he is not seen afterwards. In The Silver Chair, Aslan resurrects Caspian to His country, and Caspian even says that now he is where he belongs. We don't really get to see Aslan's country fully in depth until The Last Battle. It's great to see all of those from Narnia's past together again (and there's a whole list of them). It's kind of like we read about Heaven in the Bible, but it's not in depth until Revelation.

Reepicheep is the best character for me, and it isn't even close. He still touches my heart deeply and I tear up everytime. There is something deep inside that resonates with his nobility, honor, loyalty. Attributes I wish for and am shamed when not achieved. A long time ago i actually wrote down all the quotes from Reepicheep on a piece of paper to remind me of the ideal.
The scene in the Dawntreader movie where he comforts the dragon Eustace on the beach is just too much.

And I would love to see more frequent postings but only if it is something you really want to do, understanding the amount of work involved. Reepicheep was such a wonderfully amazing little warrior, showing that a whole lot of bravery can be packed into a very small package. I loved the way he interacted with poor Eustace on the Dawn Treader, going from being almost merciless toward him to being the kindest and most compassionate friend. I don't think he meant to be cruel at all, just saw that Eustace needed to be taught a few things. Their parting at the end brought tears to my eyes. Thanks for a great video!

I always wondered about the origin of talking mice because I believe they are mentioned as being given the gift of speech in "The Magician's Nephew" along with all the other animals. Not sure if that was a plot hole or if Lewis simply meant that Reepicheep's particular tribe was the tribe that cut Aslan free.

A weak point in the movie was how they rewrote the storyline missing the teaching point of reepicheep's sacrifice on behalf of the sleeping lords. As each of the movies moved further form canon I became more and more saddened. I hope future remakes will seek to stay as close to C. S. Lewis's vision. Movie directors that think they know better than Lewis are sadly mistaken.

Ome of things I would love to delve into were the inhabitants of Burnt Island. Who were they? How did they get there? Were they ancient Narnians? Calormans? Why did they have such small coricles? To me thats always been one of the biggest mysteries in Narnia that always seems to be brushed over.

"Reepicheep" is like the Narnian version of various famous creature hero's including the heroic feline "Puss In Boots" from the Original Italian Fairytale and the DreamWorks Animation SHReK franchise, and another heroic mouse "Despereaux Tilling" from "The Tales Of Desperaux" from the Original Book and the Universal Pictures Film.
(The ol classic Cat and Mouse phenomena)

In the two feature films that Reepicheep appeared he's been voiced by "Eddie Izzard" in (Prince Caspian) & "Simon Pegg" in (The Voyage of the Dawn Treader).
Fun fact; Simon Pegg also voiced the characters of "Buck Wild" in the Ice Age franchise.

It's not one to one by any means, but if Narnia has a Cephas, aka Simon "Peter" - surely it is Reepicheep. He is also a little Lancealot. He has a tendacy to talk big. Unlike some people he CAN actually back it up! He's also loyal like Lucy and like Tolkien' s Sam Gamgee. He's a little guy not worried about being little. His sword skills are pretty b.a. ( how many people do you know who can go into fencing mode while being swung around by the tail and actually make it work effectively? ) I don't know why I like him, I just do.

I like Reepicheep because (like Yoda from Star Wars) he shows that strength and power are not contingent on size :-)
Thanks for once again sharing a deeper piece of Narnian lore with fans both old and new!
Respectfully, I noticed a couple (minor) errors in this video: a) only two lost lords were mentioned on Ramandu’s island, and b) you mention 8 “friends of Narnia” meeting Reepicheep again in The Last Battle (Lucy and 7 others), even though Susan was not there.

    • @IntotheWardrobe
      @IntotheWardrobe  2 роки тому

Thanks so much for the post! Appreciate the careful listening and the chance to make a correction if needed.
      a) I can only find where I mentioned "the last two of the lost lords" which were the last of the seven to be discovered. Did I say something else somewhere?
      b) I think I said "Lucy and the other Seven Friends...". The Seven were Lucy, Edmund, Peter, Eustace, Jill, Polly and Digory--all of whom were there to meet Tirian behind the stable door. So I guess there were eight total! :-)

reepicheep is the typical small but indomitable creature with a big hart.I guess he is one of the oldest creature in Narnia in the books that's there at the end.

I was just thinking when the next episode would be released! Granted I've been thinking that for a good month or two now, but still. Also I do believe that it is worthwhile! There is so much Narnia lore that has only been touched on here. What happened to Susan? How does material outside of the seven chronicles fit into the lore? A Giant Surprise? The game books? Past Watchful Dragons? Unofficial "eighth" volumes? There was also a novel released in 2020, Piranesi, by Susanna Clarke, which I am convinced is a (very) loose sequel to Magician's Nephew.

Nice videos! I love Reepicheep, he is so cute and funny! In the voyage he says about the Dufflepuds: 'I wonder, do they become visible when you drive a sword into them?' :-)
The only thing I don't like is that images of the movies are used. There are many things that don't match with the books. For example, Caspian isn't allowed to go to the very end of the world, but in the movie he is. On the other side, I understand that there aren't much other pictures you can use.
By the way, could you make a serie with all (mentioned) Narnia creatures? Also the ones that are mentioned in only one book?
