Three ways to grow a lawn. There's seeding. There's hydro seeding and there's sod. And they're basically in that order as far as cost... and in my opinion, results.
We do seed lawns occasionally, we'll seed them , rake them in and straw them. That's your least expensive way to establish a lawn. But the most longterm commitment is required for that one to nurture it into a full established lawn.
Hydro seeding is a little bit better option. That's the stuff you spray that's green. Covers the ground. Essentially that seed is protected and it's fertilized in that tack and then it roots into the soil. Once it starts growing and starts establishing and essentially will turn into a mature lawn. It does require a little more maintenance than sod, but not as much as seed. You know, the big thing with that is water.
The big thing with any grass establishment is water. After about three to four weeks, you're going to want to do another starter fertilizing round with the hydro seeding to keep that process going and establish a strong root to that grass. Third option would be to sod it. Sod is a finished product. Once that product is laid, give it water and two to three weeks to root in and you'll have a full, healthy mowable lawn.
The costs for the three vary based on the areas and the slope and terrain of the area.
