I've spent the last 2 weeks catching up on most of your videos - really enjoy your style and the fact that I laugh out loud at least once a video :) thanks!!
Been a subscriber for a few weeks. You have already helped me. I’m 110kg, 6’3, decent enough shape. I was running every time my absolute hardest and not improving. Started long slow runs and it’s helping already. Just about to do 20k slow. Looking forward to it!
The most shocking thing about your rowing is the splits you hit with your dodgy technique. This is what winds the rowers up, the people with perfect efficient form doing 7:30 2ks ( like me 🤣)
As a rower your could realistically be a very good rower despite your age cus of just how good your splits are with technique that makes me want to gag.
Just want to thank you for inspiring me to begin running. Been lifting weights for a few months and bought into the mentality that bodybuilders shouldn’t do that much cardio. But I’ve been enjoying progressing on cardio activities as much as my lifting lately and a big part of that is because your videos have inspired me to set broader fitness goals beyond “have big muscle, lift big thing”
As a rowing expert I care more about people knowing I know you’re doing it wrong than I do about you actually doing it right… Seriously though, as long as you’re getting a workout and not hurting yourself, go for it.

Just watching you dig a deeper and deeper hole with your wife gives me so much joy. It's one of life's little pleasures to be able to annoy a loved one.🤣
Last time I was in the gym i did 937 calories for an easy one hour on the elliptical. Weighing 115kg has some benefits, though i really should lose 20 of those
already subscribed and liked, commented on somebody else's video regarding your great rowing technique, so only one remaining question: I'm still struggling with the AW Ultra vs. Garmin question: what lead you to the decision to use the Garmin here instead of your Apple Watch? Special reason or just happened to be so?
Using heart rate based calorie calculations, you will burn more calories with combined weights and cardio. The weights take more resources and delay heat rate recovery, which will boost calories burned. But it has to be compound movements, done in succession, with only transition time as rest. Add heavy goblet squats, trap dl, overhead pres dips etc. Youll burn more, if you can take it.
Once I subscribe to the app, will I have access to any other awesome form tutorials beyond rowing? Or will watching the videos and taking detailed notes suffice?
I hear the next update includes how to fall off your Wahoo bike in 7 graceful stages, the best technique for eating a 6000 calorie Easter Egg and an Ali Rope-a-Dope tutorial for when your wife suddenly snaps and decides to beat the shite out of you.
THE FUNNIEST video yet! Great idea too. Wonderful to see Jen as well. You two make a wonderful double act (oh yeah, and your both pretty good at athletics too 😉)
I do weights, but I have started skipping in-between sets to keep my heart rate up. I'm time poor I want to be stronger but not lose my cardiovascular fitness. I usually burn around 6-700 per 40 min workout
Reverse sled pulling for 20 minutes would make you burn lots of calories. I did 30 with going up 90lbs every lap and 3 lapse near my max. Than remove 90lbs after per lap. Best workout to burn calories and high intensity.
Not only was there excellent piss taking over the rowing technique but you also racked the handle at the end instead of leaving it at the furthest point forward. Well played, sir. Well played.
The entire time watching this I kept thinking, “dear lord, modern snacks are the devil. Smash yourself for an hour, congrats, 1 chocolate bar and some crisps!” 😅
I think you should do a video where you hop on an indoor trainer and go full gas FTP effort for 1 hour. That is one of the most brutal challenges you can do... and the most calories you can burn in an hour. Cycling has 2 advantages there: The measurement is more accurate and you can go way deeper without injury. Also the static nature of a trainer let's you just focus on the effort. I mean it would for sure be entertaining. :>
I love these videos, are there any other creators who just do normal guy/girl challenges like this? Everything else I seem to come across is super huge people doing clickbait stuff.

My few hours in the gym lifting heavy, is really cut down to 30min ish cutting the sittting around time. I enjoy swimming and cycling for Cardio. I can do those two for hours. I burn tons of calories with lap swimming non stop.
True, but we can do a mix of both worlds. Just yesterday, a lad I train had 650 active calories for 50 minutes of Functional Training. We didn't have lateral raises but stuff like thrusters, swings, compound exercises. So it's doable for weights but you can't sustain it for very long time
Most of the time I look at Mark's videos and think... yes, there is something I can learn from his technique. That Kettlebell Swing at 2:02... Literally the worst I have ever seen. Abject.
Surely this is just a measure of how deep you can dig in cardio in an hour? Basically how ready are you for a 10k massive PB or a big 20m TT on a bike?

@@MarkLewisfitness interesting I do a ton of cardio via cycling. I wonder if yours is more positively affected by your Hiit workouts plus your traditional cardio (running, cycling). of course it could be genetics too, my buddy who is the same age and weight runs on avg 15 bpm lower than I do during the same rides and we workout together 5 days a week so our training is very similar.
I regularly burn as much calories in exercise as my BMR, but it takes running half marathon plus at least one long brisk walk (say 10km). Lets just say that unless you have very hard physical job or are fulk time athlete you burn most your calories just being alive.
I mean the part about the gym workout isnt completely accurate. Only if you truly do take a lot of long breaks, you can however superset and do continuos excercises with no downtime keeping your hearrate high, which indeed can burn calories equal to that of many intensive cardio workouts. Gym workouts tend to also have a higher strain on muscles than normal cardio workouts, which is why the doms is so much higher on average, so yeah a good full body with low downtime is a mega kcal burner.
I think your theory is muchly right however i dont think many people are gonna be supersetting continuously for say an hour in a gym like in this test, even crossfitters who do appear to work very hard with multiple reps & weight, (which im not, but have done in the past) dont do full continuous 1 hr sessions of reps. I would suspect if you were supersetting for a long time you would be lifting less weight compared to a standard session and therefore surely a decrease in load would equally equal a decrease in energy expenditure? As a whole, although again, you could argue more reps, less recovery and more time working. Its a interesting concept and maybe a future test for the channel? In my limited knowlege its the concentric part of the lift that uses most energy (burns most cals) whilst the eccentric part of the contraction causes most doms, however i appreciate your muscles are working through both elements. Similar to running on flat vs incline, hills will cause more doms due to the contraction is slightly changed. Ive certainly had as much doms from an intensive running workout, as i have from a heavy gym sesh, even when fit in both and certainly had substantial doms from a crossfit workout (although some years ago, i remember it well).
