Have you wondered what would happen if you turn off Folder Forwarding from your Windows 10 client PC to a Windows 2022 server? In particular what happens when you disable folder forwarding the APPDATA folder.? Will disabling Folder Forwarding corrupt your programs like MS Teams? Will Documents and Desktop move their files from the server back to the desktop gracefully?
This video is the second part of a two part series showing how to setup Folder Redirection on Windows Server 2022 and what can go wrong when you disable folder redirection.
This process and configuration is the same for Windows Server 2016, Windows Server 2019, Windows Server 2022 and Windows 10 and Windows 11 desktop clients.

Let's say i have folder redirection for a user that uses a laptop and that user took his laptop outside the company and worked on his files. when he comes back will it sync normally with the serve or will it cause issues with his file? like removing his new files
Was there ever a solution found for this? I'm in a similar situation but with the Documents folder. When you do a gpresult, do you get the policy stuck as pending no matter if you restart or not?

Folder redirection is such a terrible system in windows. It was probably a good idea back in the day but now everyone should just be using onedrive for the redirection and backup. If I'm understanding this correctly, in a smaller case situation you can just change the users OU and it will redownload everything to their local user?
Hi, someone found any solution? My error is
Failed to apply policy and redirect folder "Documents" to "\\server\subfolder\user\Documents".
Redirection options=0x80001231.
The following error occurred: "Can not create folder "\\server\subfolder\user\Documents"".
Error details: "Access is denied.".
Well, right off the bat I don't have a "FolderRedir" folder. All my users are already in the "Users"folder. Oh well.
